Hay bud I just watched a different video you did it was great..I just started my channel focused on knife making and some video editing. My challenge is the knife making process is long when you are a hobbiest with little tools. So I can make a long video and it takes forever to finish or show the process in steps along the way and even shorten it and make it interesting but again my post time is lengthened.. any way you can make a video on improving interest in to be continued style videos? Maybe you don’t have the ability to fit the whole setup goal roadblock outcome and reaction in each video? Thanks in advance!!

When I used to do impromptu speeches, I'd use the same format. They'd give me the topic and then I would get 2-3 minutes to prepare. Rather than write the speech in my head, I'd think in this order, Conclusion I need to get to, Intro and 3 supporting topics or elements to then stand in front of an audience and try to create a speech that was, if I remember correctly 5 minutes long. It worked well. I struggle today to get back to that. It's been years and as I work towards creating a channel I find myself really wishing I kept that skill sharp. Thanks for the info!

I think this is where a lot of new (myself included) video makers are having problems. A lot of us come up with ideas and have lots of video ideas but we don't do a good job of telling the story. It's either a rush and shoot then try to figure out how to tell a story or it's a piece mill of different stuff that is mashed together.

That's really what separates the good from the great! A lot of giga successful youtubers don't necessarily use the most advance editing techniques or equipment or have the craziest experience but they do know how to pull you with them into the story they are telling!

Thank you for your insights. This storytelling format to vlogs is what I strive to do on my channel, but in a different kind of way than you described. I know my viewers want to see my day to day life, and strive to keep them entertained while showing the mundaneness that is life alone. My channel is growing and I think my concepts are helping to keep subscribers but am finding that sometimes the day to day topics don’t get impressions. What do you recommend for the data side of what a creator can enter into KZbin to help the algorithm pull their channel in to the floodwaters of impressions. I mean beyond creating good content, and intriguing thumbnails. I am thinking more about, title, description and tags. Looking forward to learning from you.

Love your videos on this. been at this YT thing for 3 years consistently (been making vids since 2007) but I realized my videos were long and boring. I live in one of the coolest places in the world, Kodiak, Alaska and I know theres a career in it for me I just have to get better at making 5-8 minute videos instead of 12-20 min ones. Occasionally on a really epic day or trip I like 20 min vlogs that are action packed. Debating on making a 2nd channel of just my adventures and keeping this one more technical and behind the scenes.

Try to come up with a backstory to get the viewer into the story at the beginning and a takeaway that the audience can bring with them. Then the video can be about your experience while also trying to tie some history or something else into the experience. You want to make videos that are a complete story that anyone can watch and not need to know who you are.
