Really LOVE how you broke this down from planning to in-action to final product. I want to get better at storytelling in my videos and it’s great seeing your workflow/ process. I remember in film school (eons ago) we were taught you’ll end up with 3 films by the end: the film you write, the film you shoot and the film you edit. You made it all come together so well (AND got 2 videos out of it between the actual vid and the BTS!) 👍👍👍

I’m in the process of starting to use more scripts/voiceovers in videos rather than vlogging it in person, so this video was a God send! Also helped me realise how I can implement both in camera and out of camera speaking

I used to teach writing to first and second graders. I helped them become writers telling the stories from their lives. From this I learned we all have meaningful stories we can tell. When I started making videos I wanted to figure out how to tell stories in this medium. This video was super helpful in providing a clear example of going from written script to making a video. Thank you! I am definitely going to visit those dunes too!

Also enjoy your vlogs very much and like that you create your own memories by sharing those experiences that also motivate not to get a camera only but also to travel, explore and get out the comfort zone. This video is pure gold! I found few techniques that I already use myself, which made me very proud actually, like the variety of shots using both vlog style and tripod. In my case since I'm usually on my own I tend not to bring a tripod and use my bag instead as a base for the camera, or the mini tripod used for vlogging. In this video I also found other techniques that I might include in my workflow and I thank you for that Jeven

I really love how you can make an entire video just about 1 place and it’s interesting the entire time. I have a hard time doing that, my instinct is just “so you kick some sand, and it makes noise! Pretty sick, right?” Lol. I’m exaggerating a bit but you really have talent

Fantastic!! Great tips for tricks of the trade and breakdown. I now want to check these dunes out! It actually sounds like such a “deep chasm of distorted sounds that resonate above the dunes”. Sea floor? It sounds like there’s something still there, huge, and beneath the subterranean.

Jeven, thanks for sharing your script process. I tend to write the script post trip. This really makes sense, with all the research that goes into planning a shoot, that's the time to get your "talking points" together. I should know from my experience in front of the camera for media stories and documentaries, duh.
@extraordinarymoments2 жыл бұрын
ironically, non-KZbin related, eight years ago today I did my largest press conference pulling in 1.6 billion impressions worldwide on the discovery of the shipwreck "City of Chester" in San Francisco Bay. I pulled it off, but I could have been better prepared with talking points (script!). To your point, plan the script, practice the script, the rest will fall into place during the shoot

Hi Jeven. Great video as always. You convinced me to do the scripting prior to filming. Though post-filming script-writing worked well for me for the last 3 years YouTubing, your method seems advantageous, especially to film according to the script; e.g. how to reach. I will try it out for the next time when filming.

Good concept and useful how to info. Begs larger questions that suggest a followup. Such as- well, these dunes are barchans, and they have a concave side and a convex side. Does the sound occur irrespective of which side you are kicking? Or is it only on the concave side? The latter would suggest the hollow is focusing and magnifying the sound, and projecting the echo back off the distant mountains. If you know the distance of the mountains, and time the delay to hearing the sound, you can verify or falsify this hypothesis.

Love the story. I visited the Death Valley sand dunes circa 1962. While living in the San Fernando Valley, my uncle took my brother and I. Was a great time and I've been to many sand dunes across the US since then. Including Great Sand Dunes National Park where I climbed a 750' sand dune. Very hot day and on the way down my wife met me with a cold Pepsi. Someone offered to buy it from me for $5. (That's like $50 today), Yeah, I turned him down!
