Thanks Mike and SWD Team: very thoughtful analysis of use of emails. I will be sharing this video with our Tableau Champions Team and Marketing Director at work. We are at a deployment stage of rolling out our organization-wide metrics. We are planning to use subscription and scheduling to email these reports out regularly, so this is all important to us having success with our plans.

sensible and sound advice. A question: what if the purpose of the email was to criticize, not congratulate, would you put the criticism in the first block?

When delivering upsetting news to your audience, the answer is always more nuanced than we would like. It will depend on the situation, your audience, your communication skills, and your relationship with your audience. Some ideas to consider: be intentional and thoughtful about language choices. For example, 'poor performance' can be reframed as 'an opportunity to improve.' You could also balance your feedback by sharing something positive. The key is to be mindful of your audience. How do you think your audience will respond to this? How would you prefer to receive the same information? Consider whether an email is an ideal medium to deliver feedback; perhaps this is a scenario where a face-to-face meeting is preferred. This would be a great place to share your communication approach with someone else for feedback-aka feedback on your feedback! Ha! 🙂

throught the whole video I was wondering how are you going to keep the sender's message noticeable, when already highlighting and color coding the receipent's important part, and using another color was brilliant and worked well!

Perfect timing! I just shared with collegues because someone sent an email and "buried the lead" smh. ! Btw, are you related to Al Cisneros of Sleep/Om? You could be brothers. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing! No relation to Al as far as I know, but I suppose if you go back far enough we probably both have ancestors from our namesake town in Spain. :-)
