Johnny you've hit the life jackpot! What a sweet sweet story - I cried. My husband and I have had cats for 20 years and they truly are members of our family. A word of (unsolicited) advice - just make sure he has the highest quality food available - it really does make a difference when they get older to avoid health problems. We now have three 18 year old cats who have been fed high-quality food since they were kittens and they are super-healthy!

Welcome to the "Dog Mom Turned Cat Mom" club! My first cat - after a lifetime of owning dogs - was also a black cat, and also a stray who seemed way too chill to have been feral. That was nearly ten years ago, and I've had a cat ever since. They're awesome! And black cats are special - they seem to know they're different, and that they're not wanted as much as other "colors" because of superstition, so they're especially appreciative of being loved. You did such a wonderful thing! 🙂

Such a beautiful story…he’s meant to be part of your family, fits right in 🥰 I godda say, having owned cats all of my life…he’s definitely not feral or a wild cat…his affection, confidence in the house (and car and box), confidence with humans and the dogs, the fact that he use the kitty litter straight away (hasn’t had any accidents), has no problem eating from a bowl, not jumping on the bench, and being well behaved…all confirm that he has been raised in a loving home, and with dogs previously. Because these behaviours I have just mentioned, don’t come naturally to cats, they have to be trained (and conditioned) to do this. So maybe his owner passed away, and he ran away…or he got dumped for some reason…one thing is for sure, he definitely picked you guys to be his new family, so glad you have him 🥰💕

This makes me so happy. I recently had a strong connection to my neighbors’ cat. They moved here over a year ago and the cat always came to my house and we spent time together and I fed him, but we became a lot closer in June. I suffer from anxiety and depression and being able to spend so much time with him helped me a lot. A few weeks ago the neighbors moved. Out of nowhere, I had no idea they were leaving. The first day I thought they had the cat inside (since he wasn’t showing up at my house). But soon I walked by their house and saw it was empty. I was heartbroken. I cried so much, spent whole days in bed just missing him. I still miss him but I appreciate the time we shared together. He was with me when I really needed someone to lift me up. Cats have an amazing energy ❤ I’m so happy that you got to adopt Johnny and he’s a great addition to your kind family ❤ maybe you don’t realize, but perhaps he was exactly what you needed right now 😊 I can’t think of a better family for him than yours ❤ I believe he found you for a reason. You needed each other 😊

Yes! That’s your cat. We don’t choose cats…they choose us. And he showed you his belly right away so he instantly trusted you. He’s definitely not acting like a feral cat in your story. He had to have been a house cat at one point, or was around people often. Wow. 8 even saw that he let you pet his hind paws. OMG what a perfect name. If there’s any chance you might want to take Johnny on walks, get a harness and slowly get him used to it now. I ❤ his tv! That’s amazing lol Taking the plants out was a good idea. A lot of plants are toxic to cats. I can’t have any because Gray eats them all. He even chews on fake plants 🤦‍♀️ Ha! You’re both bakers. Lizzie has a loud purr; Gray’s purr is nearly silent. I can’t believe that other lady, after saying she was experienced with cats and then immediately lost him and didn’t care! What the heck! 😤 I am so so glad you didn’t give up and found him again. I've had a similar experience. Our neighborhood had feral cats and there was one who started coming to out door. First we put out food and water and she would eat that but never come close. One day we were bringing things into the house and had the door open and the cat darted in and hid under the bed for hours, That evening the cat came out and we fed her indoors. She never went further than our front porch again...she wanted to be an indoor cat. She was calm and never tore anything up. She was never super affectionate but would give us bumps with her head all the time...talking to "cat" friends, that is affection...lol. I think she got tired of living outside. Enjouy your new family member...he picked you!

oh my goodness! We have a similar story with our cat! He was also a TNR about the same age when he chose me! We would see him all the time around our apartment complex and he slept in the garages outside. One day I was checking the mail and saw him and wondered if he would come to me. Out of curiosity I called him over. He came and started rolling around, allowed me to pet him and from that point on followed me everywhere! Eventually we took him in and did all the things! And now 8 years later he is still our perfect angel!! LIterally the best behaved cat ever! We adopted a cat for him to have as a friend and this cat is out of his mind! hahahaha! That's what we get...one perfect cat and a little terror. hahaha I enjoyed watching your story! What a blessing he is to your life!
