This is what clear and effective teaching looks like (clear instruction, repeated demonstration). Thank you. Although I’m a painter, not animator, I think learning to think and see like an animator adds liveliness to figures. Prior to this, I also have a very old Preston Blair book which is very fun and harkens back to early Disney, circa Pinocchio (which is still a favorite). Anyway, thank you for this video!

gravity pull in motion, transition through: stable, unstable, back to stable. that's why I like to draw at live events. At home, during a movie etc, draw gestures or movement, rewind to catch again, or slow it down.

I always struggle with gesture. When I draw, I tend to approach everything from an anatomically / constructional pov so my characters end up looking overly muscular (even the women) and overly stiff. And I can't draw cartoony, more expressive characters at all... When I animate I tend to reference live action footage to heavily making everything look mechanic (currently I'm trying to make something that looks sorta like Jim roh wolf brigade from 1999, that one looks rotoscoped though it isn't bit otherwise doesn't look stiff like my stuff neither) 🤔

Quick question, when studying from videos do you often just let the video play as you draw just like you were in public or do you pause to pick key poses in sequence? I've heard there's benefits to both methods. What's your take on it?
