Chase patterns with 1/4 note fills are combinations of two #rootmovements. When I’m giving you that fill I’m actually executing the second level of the “Rock The Bells” pattern (root move #4). From there I come back to the “Chase”...

I like how you used that Steezo (RIP) song to teach him the pattern! I usually find that backspinning prior to starting the chase makes it easier for me to jump into the chase and variate it.

Anyone following the Brolic Army tutorials knows what DJ Wiggins pulls off at 12:45 is just nuts. He skips several steps of learning this pattern and just goes straight to running the whole thing through. Wasn’t perfect, but holy crap that’s incredible for a first time… Mad respect. And crazy respect to Rob Swift. He’s an incredible teacher, because he has so much experience. He can anticipate the things that will trip a student up, because he’s seen it so many times before.

I've been practicing this pattern, then I forgot how to do it. Watching this video, the muscle memory is coming back.

For some reason I always want to start the chase from my left hand... It seems hard to start the chase from the top, plus my chase sounds more robotic with less pause.

I feel your pain! It’s been a really new experience for me making sure I can do all these moves from both sides, it’s just not something you do on guitar, but Rob is adamant (rightfully so) that we must be able to perform ambidextrously. Right now it’s much easier for me to lose the chase w/fills starting from the left, it’s the beautiful eternal struggle...lots of fun!
