Less predatory types and more focus on dancing/having fun. Straight bars, IMO, tend to get people who lock eyes with you and "claim" you as their goal for the night. Gay men's bar are my go-to for just having fun, but as a gay woman, I'd still prefer a lesbian bar over a straight bar for dancing. I think its more of the LGBT community than just women in general, but they tend to understand what "no" means much better.

I'm neither straight (bisexual girl here) nor a fan of bars, but I'd say Jordan is onto something. As someone who doesn't feel comfortable with being hit on even when single, if I had to go to a bar, I'd rather go to one where there's less of a chance of me being hit on by guys. Sure, I might get hit on by other women, but I'm yet to experience a woman getting hostile with me after being rejected - something which, unfortunately, I've experienced with men multiple times.

My best friend had just turned 18 and he wanted me to accompany him to a gay bar because now he was legal to go in (uk) and was certain he would get laid - he also wanted somebody to dance with. After dancing with my friend in this club for approximately 10 minutes, a 40 year old butch lesbian waltzed right over to me, grabbed me by my hair and punched me in the jaw, I was so surprised, she had knocked me to the ground, and then she came right up in my face and shouted, "STRAIGHT GIRLS AREN'T ALLOWED IN HERE." At my town the gay bar is the only club like bar, so typically any sexuality goes. They straight guys I know don't care too much of a gay guy tries to hook up with them. Side note, I would never go to ANY bar alone, mostly cause I'm shy and I don't drink lots, so it probably wouldn't be fun going alone. If I was going to a gay bar, I'd probably go with a gay or bi friend, and if anyone flirted with me, I'd just direct them to my friend like a straight wing-woman :P I'm straight, but I like the gay women's channel. I was reading the comments. So from what it seems you are not allowed to go to a club if you arent available to date someone. That seems to be the what I read brought to the basics. You guys seem to think that a bar/club is where straight people get together to date or just have a one nighter and that is it and a gay bar/club is where gay people get together to date or a one nighter. I would never ever go to a bar or club to hook up with someone. When I went out, I went to drink dance and hang out with the people that I went out with. You choose the location based on the music, the ambiance(feel of the place or people), and the cover charge. and also the price of alcohol could be a factor. Yes gay bars/clubs are were gay people get to be who they are. It is a place where any straight person who goes there can not judge them. But I dont see how it needs to be a place where straight people are not allowed to be.

I agree with you on the part of people going out to clubs and bars to hook up. It's not a really good way to meet people for anything more than a one night stand. The one part that I don't agree on is the part where you stated that straight people seeming to not be allowed into gay bars and clubs. I can't speak for everybody, but my opinion (from being a lesbian and talking to other gay people) about that statement is that we do not mind if straight people go to the gay club/bar just like we can go to the straight clubs/bars. The one thing that we do not like is offering to pay for a drink or asking someone to dance or anything of that sort to a man or woman and them being offended for being asked as if we were supposed to assume they were straight even though they came to a gay club/bar. We like to assume that everybody in the place is gay even though that's not always the case. So in my opinion, the people who complain and gripe about straight people coming to the gay clubs/bars are the ones who don't like to walk up to people and then get rudely shut down.
