Your knowledge Jarrod on soaps 🧼 and oils exceeds mine ! I've just convexed a support wood block for an experiment in stropping , probably not as good as your shellaced one. You're happy to hear I used your concave alloy plate . Best of luck with your house 🏠 final battle settlement 💪 .

@thesuperiorshave I'll admit my first attempts with rough grit stones were not successful 2 years ago , so I'm hanging on the coat tails of others for now 😉 . But pasted strops on a shaped block I've just made today , I've high hopes for , just to refresh a flat apex into more life 🙃 😅

@@Martins-Shaves123 that should work easily, shape a coarser paste to 2m and keep on it until it overtakes 80%+ of bevel, then switch to a finer paste shaped to 8m until it takes over all, plain leather thereafter, can't miss

I prefer a plate, but I like to rub a razor on a stone, that’s just me. The DMT plate may be preferable for some. I am with you Jarrod, I like the running game, but that’s a bygone era. Now that the league will not let them play defense anyone; the best part of the game is watching those offenses that are creative and explosive. Have a good day.

A late game clock-stuffing run offense was pretty cool to watch dominate in its own way. Much like the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, it isn't returning to the NFL again, to devote the cap space to such an advantage would just cost too much vs the necessity of a gunslinger QB first and foremost. We'll never again see a 2000 Ravens type team that can go all the way with an impossibly good defense + a 'Trent Dilfer game mgr', and we'll never see a great rush / not great pass offense win a championship. As cool as those things were, though, they weren't nearly as exciting as Kurt Warner's debut to the NFL with the Rams, now, were they? We've just become desensitized to how special that kind of formula is to observe, now that everyone tries to win that way whether they got the staff for it or not. I'm going to ask the Chinese people for a price for the two molds and 3 samples of the perma-plate, and then use one and pass around 2x, see if they hold up. If they do, it is just so inexpensive to make a shaped stone in the longterm, even if you're one that insists on Chinese-+-vtg-or-nothing razor acquisition, ~$40 for a step #1 stone that leaves all shaves after it much superior is a can't miss item.

@@thesuperiorshave oh yea, I think it’s a superior concept. Makes It simple and affordable, great idea. I just like to play with stones, so I enjoy your plate. I just today took an old Sheffield half hallow, went Coti 6’, 25’ and finished on flat LGB Coti. Silent HHT5, can’t wait to give it a test run. I did shape a 6’ and 25’ Jnats a couple weeks ago. Initial test with a Boker Carbon was delicious. It won’t be my last. Take care, glad to hear your house/insurance issue is coming to a close.

FWIW, as a hobbyist I would probably purchase one of the proposed shaped hone to add to my tool kit. But, there is no way it could ever replace my original Jarrod shaping plate for the many options it offers in the selection of shapes and abrasives that I can use. If our friends in China were genuinely interested in a market pursuit of this new concept, I think they should offer you prototypes free of charge. If you liked the proposed prototype, then promoted and went on to became a dealer for their manufacturing operation…you could be less disappointed when they started selling direct behind your back. I can almost see Ningbo Gold Dollar adding a shaped hone diamond plates to their lineup.

oh, we can be entirely certain they'll make some extras and undercut me if I ordered a second batch...it has already happened when we ordered a second batch of 200x plates from China, suddenly AliExpress-ish sites had the same thing for ~+$5/ea. *delivered* direct all the way from CN vs what I'd been fronting each for 200 at a time! I bought 2pcs, and a month later...they showed up and they were seemingly the exact same plates! In China, you have to pay for security to watch your factory not to make more units "off the clock". They don't respect patents, either. I doubt they'd do that straight out of the gate for an order of 500x inexpensive shaped hones, without seeing continuing demand, because in their head they'll still have to pay +$0 for something they likely see as a loser, but with them I guess you never know.
