I use a shavette with derby blades and it works wonders! I love how hassle free it is not having to worry about maintaining or up keeping it. Great video brother! 👏🏽

Thank you. I must admit I'm enjoying the hassle free more and more. Everyone now and again I do go back and treat myself with the experience though :)

I like the honing of my skills with the straight razor, but I can definitely appreciate the hassle free of a shavette. I use my straight razor most of the time, but I have a DE for when I just don’t have the time for a straight razor shave. Because I enjoy DE shaving, I don’t really have much use for a shavette myself.

Lol this has become a new hobby for me. I have 3 SE razors, 2 Straight replaceable razors and planning on getting 1-3 traditional straight razors along with 1-2 of the other types I want to try out. I went from wanting to have a bread to hating to shave since I would always get cuts and agitation, but once I found out about the SE and straight razors I fall head first. Thanks for the low down, I wont get to crazy with the traditional cause it does seem like you will have to deal with a dull cut for some time until you have to get it honed. So investing in learning how to sharpen it yourself will be good and part of the hobby.
@Beardyvlogger2 жыл бұрын
Yep 100%. It can get expensive but it pays for itself over time vs buying those expensive Gillette razors. There's videos that will teach you how to hone, but if you do it wrong you can easily destroy the blade. Some shops will teach you for a price, totally worth it.
@h2t262 жыл бұрын
@@Beardyvlogger O, now that I didn't know. If they could teach me I would try it. Best test it out on some cheap 20-30 buck one first then move on to the ones I really want to get. Great tip!

That shavette looks pretty awesome. I shave with a straight razor, and have for decades. I'm not in forums. Im not an enthusiast. Just a guy that loves the feel and speed of a straight razor shave, along with not spending any money per shave😂 I learned how to do it the hard way. There is so much to know, like enough to get a degree. I recommend that any noobs, interested in experiencing the joy of a straight razor shave, learn how to have your face with the Razette. That's going to take a month to het good at, and comfortable with. Then buy a nice straight razor, and a nice strop. You have months of learning just to maintain each. Yes, you even have to learn how to maintain your strop. Take the plunge. You will love shaving and look forward to it. With a Razette on hand. If you are struggling to keep the edge you want on your straight razor (you will), you can just pick up one that is sharp, shave and get on with your life😂 I wish they had those when I startrd.
@Beardyvlogger2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Vito, you're so right! I love how quick it is with the Shavette, it's more of a process with a straight razor shave. You have to really take care of it in so many ways, but that's the fun part for those that are into it! The Shavette is like learning how to rollerblade before you put on ice skates when compared to a straight razor. Great advice man!
@vitodelorto17962 жыл бұрын
@@Beardyvlogger if I wasn't a carpenter, already used to sharpening all my tools, I probably would have been discouraged and left it alone. Being able to just pop in a fresh blade lets you dive right into enjoying the best shave you can get. Now you can do so for a couple years, while you learn how to sharpen a grown up razor😂
@Beardyvlogger2 жыл бұрын
@Vito Delorto Lol yup. And at this price with 100 blades you could go almost a lifetime without even getting to the big boy razor lol. When I'm in a rush, it's a shavette. When I want the experience, it's the straight razor.. Do you hone yours yourself? I mostly just use it for line ups so I haven't had a need to hone mine yet. I went in to get it checked and they were like "too soon jr" and also complimented me on how well I've taken care of the blade :)
@vitodelorto17962 жыл бұрын
@@Beardyvlogger 😂😂😂 "Jr"... My main razor is just a cheap Zertone. I had to sharpen it out of the box, not much. Just a touch on a medium stone, and a good hone on the hone stone. I strop it for every use. About 15 strokes on the furry side, then 20 strokes up and down the smooth side with my left hand then 20 more up and down with my right hand. That progam lasts me about two months (a few shaves a week), before I hve to take it to the hone stone. The hone stone is like two minutes- not a sharpening project. I'm sure if I bought a "nice razor" I could get away with about half the strop strokes every shave and go a lot longer without hone stone touch up.

I’ve been Traditional WetShaving for 4 years and in that time I’ve been using Shavettes on and off so I have lots of experience with them. I just recently got into Straight Razors and I’m on about my eighth Shave. It’s OK and I just find it really tedious to send it out to get honed, make sure you strap it correctly if not you’ll roll the edge. I find that the Shavettes are the modern Straight Razors and really prefers safety razors new and vintage alike! 💈😁✌🏻💈 i’m not sure if I’m gonna stick with it because I’d like to get a BBS Shave

They're both great for their own reasons. Sometimes I just want the quick shave I can get with a shavette when I'm strapped for time, when I want to truly enjoy the experience it's traditional straight razor for me. It's great to have both really! Been stropping for a few years. Even brought it in to have it looked at under a specialty shops microscope and they said I'm doing a great job with maintenance :)

The ones that came with Facon Branded Platinum coated Japanese stainless steel. I've heard good things about derby though. I'd say these are pretty good. If I'm being honest when I'm in a pinch and just need to get the job done, I've been using the derby more, even though I love the Dovo. It's a pretty close shave, just when the camera is zoomed in like that you really do notice the difference watching back. Just looking at the mirror I couldn't tell the difference in closeness. Which brand do you recommend? I'll try them when I run out in 100 years 😂😇
