Mount Etna blows rare volcanic vortex smoke rings Into Sicilian sky

Volcanic vortex rings are natural, near-perfect circles of gas emitted from a volcano under specific conditions and scientists say Mount Etna emits more than any other volcano on earth.
It is a relatively rare phenomenon caused by a constant release of vapours and gases. The gaseous mass ascends rapidly through the central part of the conduit, promoting the formation of rings by wrapping the gas upon itself in a vortex motion.
Giuseppe Barbagallo, of the South Etna Alpine Guides Group, said the last time this happened at the Etna volcano was last December.
The rings have led locals to re-name the volcano "Lady of the Rings".

Something interesting about Vortex rings is their sound, they make a very distinct whistle, imagine the roar of a tornado but really high pitched because it's tiny. You can hear this sound from the vortexes that are made from all the little vortex ring blaster toys that are out there, which allow you to shoot vortex rings out of a little plastic cannon of sorts, but it really makes me wonder if you could actually hear these big ones, they're probably pretty quiet, and probably make a sound that's much lower pitched, something closer to that of a tornado, but there's undoubtably a sound that they make, I just wish someone with a good parabolic microphone was around to try and record it.
