According to the 1923 treaty of Lausanne Turkey had renounced all claim to Cyprus, so it had to manufacture a series of arguments - historical, geographical and above all strategic - to justify its interest in the island. In 1956 Nihat Erim submitted a report to prime minister Adnan Menderes, which can be considered the blueprint for Turkey's strategy over the last 50 years. The Erim report clearly states that the only solution for Cyprus consists of partition under Turkish control and mentions population exchange and settlement by mainland Turks as means to this end. We want and get all the resources between north of cyprus and south of our lands. It's not a blind facist ideology. i tell this based on the international laws, UN laws, doctrins published during ww1 and Treaty of Lausanne(24 july 1923). Let me summarize the situation. Turkey is one of the biggest(or maybe the biggest) riparian state in Eastern Mediterranean. And all countries agreed on their EEZ by externalizing Turkey. Because they Greece wants half of Turkey's EEZ. They are saying Meis Island can block Turkey's continental shelf. But INTERNATIONAL LAW says; if there is an island on another state's continental shelf, this island can have its own territorial sea but can't block the other state's continental shelf. But Greece today wants our continental shelf just because of this little Meis Island. Also other riparian states such as Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Israel, South Cyprus etc. formed Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, by externalizing Turkey again. Turkey and South Cyprus has a dispute about some areas around Cyprus. Because Greek side of Cyprus are using these areas and companies are drilling for Cyprus State. But Greeks didn't agreed with Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots have right on this island but they are doing everything alone. Turkey and Northern Republic of Cyprus demands Greeks to negotiate with them first, about sharing the natural sources. But Greeks are not recognizing Turks still, as like they did since 1960s. Turkey, Greece and UK are guarantor states in Cyprus so these countries must have an agreement first, before drilling or selling these sources. But today, even France, South Korea, USA and Austria are threatening Turkey. Austria doesn't even have a shore to a sea! Every state today, no matter relevant or irrelevant to Eastern Mediterranean Sea are talking about this but nobody wants to co-operate with Turkey. Why? Money is good, Turkey is bad. Israel, Egypt and Libya could have bigger area if they have been agreed with Turkey but they wanted to be with Greece. Their choise... But Turkish Cypriots and Turkey have right in Mediterranean Sea. Everybody must know that Turkey seeks diplomatic solution. But nobody gives a shit to come to an agreement with Turkey in diplomatic way. They are always doing propaganda against Turkey and they are showing Turkey as warlike. Turkey always seek diplomatic solution because Turkey knows that if it dares to war, nobody will come to help. Why would Turkey want to start a war? S-400 thing... Greece bought S-300 years ago, same missile, they are in NATO too. Nobody said anything to them. Turkey also is in NATO for 60 years. Rights are not for only others. Turkey has rights too. If the world can stop externalizing and discriminating Turkey, we can live in peace all together.
