Man...I'm grateful I missed the last four episodes or so, because now I get to crybinge the LAST episodes of my favorite whiskey show 🥃 Thank you guys for teaching me so much about distillery sourcing, tasting expectations, how to articulate what I'm experiencing and frankly, how to better understanding why I love whiskey, without pretentiousness. I had this when I was touring the distillery last year. I found it beautiful. The nose gave me this pineapple note that I really enjoyed.

Is it ok to smell alcohol? If so, going to a "tasting" and just smelling them might be a rewarding experience. Just like having a varied pallet with food allows for a greater foundation to find smelling/tasting notes in Whisky, having smelled many Whiskies might enhance your viewing experience in a similar manner? 🤔😊

Stranahan's was my first ever distillery tour when I went out to Denver to visit my best friend this past summer. The Diamond Peak wasn't my favorite, but it's a super cool and unique bottle and would recommend at least giving it a try. I'm not a huge fan of single malts but every different bottle they have is very unique.

I just love going there when I come through. It was one of the first distilleries I visited and the way they had the grains laid out in the tasting room had a palpable affect on the tasting.

2:55 "Who finishes single malt in rye, it's not a thing" - funny you mention it, because Stranahan's actually did a single malt finished in rye casks earlier this year! It was a distillery exclusive called the "NY Rye Cask" using barrels they got from Black Dirt distillery in New York state.

I think that most people mimic accents because it's a way of fitting in, it's a nod to the local people that you're trying. It's also just natural to mimic the mannerisms of those around you, provided that you want to be friends with them. Mimicry is the best form of flattery. Accents are fun, and they're interesting, and so long as you're not being an asshole about it, I'm pretty sure most people will not be offended.

I totally get that Daniel, I am from northern Mexico, and I don't have the typical thick cowboy-ish Spanish accent, think Texas accent but in Spanish, I think I watched so many cartoons, which were dubbed in neutral Spanish that I just picked that up, kinda like I din't know Mid-Atlantic accent

I did the Stranahans tour in September didn't like the Diamond Peak. I love the rest of their offerings. I got a distillery exclusive of Red Wine Cask freaking amazing

Was it a Sandeman cask? I think I've seen that barrel when I was there for Snowflake in 2019.

Just went on the tour and tasted this whiskey. It feels heavy with a slight pepper/butterscotch hint. Hard to tell tequila, but really enjoyed it. The tequila is cuervo reserva de la familia extra anejo which isn’t cheap.

I had the exact same experience with the Glenfiddich IPA finish. The whiskey itself was great, but I had to REALLY search for any of the hoppy IPA goodness I was expecting (and any I found was probably placed there by my brain).

Cuervo is notorious, as are the big tequila brands, of adding additives to their tequila, including oak flavor and caramel color to make it seem more aged. It's the reason Siete Leguas stopped distilling Patron when they got really big and wanted to step up production and use additives. It makes me wonder if the barrels used weren't all that aged and flavorful to begin with because Cuervo adds flavor components after they're in the barrel. I also happen to feel that tequila aged in whiskey barrels makes a far bigger impression on the end result than whiskey aged in tequila barrels.

Both Raasay as well as Meike Tòir (peated Glenallachie) are not finished but aged in rye casks

@@adamritchey4209 some price fixing through a distributor or some such. It started a couple years ago, but total wine just got subpoenaed in the last couple of days. Thats about all I can find reported, I'm hoping the whiskey crew has more information or insight.

Two years might seem a good time, but two years in Colorado, or anywhere in the Front Range is different. Hot summers and what can be very cold winters, definitely means things are different.

Maybe the newer bottles but no not traditionally, the first few runs the cups fit snug enough on the top so as to not fall off. That said, Tin Cup has a special metal bottle coming out that will be threaded in both the cap and stopper.

Tequila has to spend at least a year in a barrel to be called anejo. My gut instinct is usually to assume that a big brand like Jose Cuervo could afford to leave their stock in the barrel longer but I guess it could depend on which exact brand the used barrel was used for

I’m glad I’m not the only one that hated that terrible skeleton bottle from that Canadian distillery. I bought it a Halloween or two ago and it’s still almost full. Terrible stuff. I can’t imagine someone tasting that and saying “I have to introduce more people to this”
