STRANDED in Our Ford F-450!

While heading to the Great Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion in Tennessee, Kevin makes one of the biggest mistakes any truck driver could ever make! The entire crew, including our Jeep Wrangler and two puppies, are left stranded in our new Ford F-450 with no way to make it to the off road event across the country. At least, not until our subscribers get involved to help us out!

When we first got our diesel. I coached my wife on the Life and Death importance of Always being aware of the fuel you are pumping. I went over it like 10 times (out of love) mostly because my wife isn’t a car/truck person. She’s never made the mistake the last 6 years.

Just remember to check your fuel filter for metal shavings from the high pressure pump, can make it back to the tank via the return line. Can have tiny bit of shavings even if it runs good

Hey guys , great channel, keeps me entertained in my retirement. Back in the early 2000’s had a customer of mine purchase a brand new VW turbo diesel. Picked it up at dealership, made it 6 miles down the road and shut down. Parking lot boy filled it up with gasoline. Embarrassing to them but they took care of it right there , drained tank and flushed lines and replaced fuel filter. My shop then changed the ffilter few more times at every oil service. Car had 300,000 miles on it when I lost track of it. Drive that nice truck!

Going forward, I'd recommend fueling up at the diesel island where semis go for the fact it's a bigger nozzle and pumps much faster. Also, most truck stops have DEF at the pump as well and it's also much cheaper than using the jugs.

Don’t be too down about it Kevin. My dad did the same thing a few months ago. Basically the same scenario. Thankfully insurance ended up covering everything and replaced the whole fuel system. Truck is good as new now.

Don't sweat it yet. Drain the fuel out. Change the fuel filters. Give it a turn of the key. You may not have toasted the engine.

This. I’ve had guys fill our work trucks. Drain tanks change filters fire her up and you should be good to go especially if you didn’t run it hard.

As a fleet manager, I have seen this many times. The 6.7 is pretty robust. At least you didn't put DEF in the fuel. That makes a very expensive mess of things.

We all make mistakes. Getting mad does not solve problems like this, you just have to work towards solving the problem. It's great to be in the company of kind and supportive people when you make a mistake. My wife is the best with this stuff. I can be really hard on myself when I screw up, but my wife never makes me feel bad about the mistakes I make.

this happened to my 08 250 w/the 6.4 power stroke 22 gallons while running out of 32 gallon tank. pulled off the fuel rail attached a hose turned it on and pumped it out refilled it w/ 30 gallons diesel didn’t miss a beat. drove from NoVA to KC pulling a 30ft boat. Ran perfect the whole trip. changed the fuel filters in KC. That truck was a beast - loved that engine. It might have lead to premature clogging of the dpf but that happened at 290k on the odometer - the fuel incident occurred at 30k

Close call…glad Chris was able fix it. That Lucas oil injector cleaner is great stuff. I use it every other fill up and it improves gas mileage by 2-3 miles/gallon.

So sorry you went through this. This is worse than the first dent. Or a hail storm. FYI to empty a fuel tank, you can disconnect the fuel line at the filter and connect a tube from there to whatever. Then bypass the fuel pump relay with a paperclip or short wire and it will pump all the fuel out. If you have the right tubing available. I know it's all water under the bridge at this point and I'm not sure this would had worked for you. Don't you hate getting this information after the fact. Some people. You are very lucky you know your stuff and took immediate action. But nothing seems to stop you guys from reaching your goals. Keep on rollin!
