Hi Marc. This is one of the best videos you've made. It has it all: Paddling, fishing , exploring a trappers cabin, taking overnight shelter in the cabin, talking about your experiences with KZbin commenters, satellite communicator, and Misty. Everything an outdoor lover would want to see in a video. I really enjoy the adventure of finding and exploring old cabins. There is a great excitement to see how they are built and what they contain, right down to the old pots and pans and cooking appliances and wood stove. I've always enjoyed finding these kind of places myself too. I like your emergency provisions and the rope candle. It is a wise outdoorsman that plans ahead for the unexpected. All the Best to you.

Thanks Craig! I've been holding on to this one to break up winter, glad you enjoyed it my friend! For me the exploration is the cherry on top on outings! When I was a kid I walked miles all over the Temagami area exploring the remains of the logging era of the early 1900's. Collected some cool finds along the way! I never knew then how much exploring captivated me! I just refuse to sit in the couch when there is so much out there! Thanks Craig🍻

Hi Marc. Nice video. Misty will always be remembered and never forgotten. You hunting cabin explorers are very interesting. Never know what you might stumble upon. Nice fish. Cool having a cabin to stay in. Take care and have a great day,🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦

Well done Marc, I enjoyed your thoughts about trappers cabins, back country etiquette etc. Like I always say, I learn something new in each of your videos. Thanks
@EverydayProjects Жыл бұрын
Exactly, Robin, this was a great video. In some parts of Canada (like Quebec) there are leased recreational cabin sites that are very similar to "owned" property with taxes paid on them, etc. Crown, or government land in other provinces do not give the occupier of a cabin exclusive rights to the lot. That said, if a trapper or other cabin builder decides to lock his door, that's a choice that should be respected, but an open door usually means that the owner will allow access to respectful users on occassion or in an emergency. Marc is exactly right about access and use of cabins on Crown land that do not have a lease, and that you come across that are left open. Use them with respect and leave them better than you find them (Example: split wood for the next user, clean out the camp after use (like Marc did) or leave a valuable item inside like a fry pan you don't need, etc. ). The unwritten rules of the wilderness should always be tread lightly, pack out your trash and leave no damage AND in the case of open cabins, use them on occassion with respect to the owner and to any other user. A log book in these cabins is often fun to read too just as a side note.

I did look for a log book and there were none. I have signed many through the years. They make for a good read on lonely nights with a head lamp!
@EverydayProjects Жыл бұрын
@@OpenAirOutdoors Yes, logbooks in those places sometimes show a history of many years of visitors and tales of huge fish caught. Always good to find and write something in them.

Well.....just what the Doctor ordered !!!! Just spent 3 hours outside shovelling and plowing snow hahaha !!! Had a major snow storm last night at approximately 25-30cm !! Dried off, got a coffee, lit the fire and got your notification. Marc and Misty out on a summer paddle and fishing trip.....super awesome !!! Great "education" on crown land use and trapper's cabins, some people don't understand how it works ! Great video as always !! Cheers !! 👍👍🌲🌲🌲🇨🇦🍻

Howdy Marc- what an exciting adventure! Absolutely fantastic video! Glad the trapper’s cabin was available for your use. We have access to the National forests but no permanent structures are allowed to be built there. Thank you for putting this video together. Hod blessings

Nice chat Marc. Trapping is pretty much over for most as it's definitely not a way to sustain one's self anymore. People that live and sustain themselves strictly from the woods are long gone , nomadic people 😅 try and get a person under 40 to go out in the woods is rare today except at a fully serviced provincial park with wifi :)

Marc, I'm curious... If you hadn't found the trapper's cabin on that lake, would you have stayed out as late, or would you have returned home sooner?
@OpenAirOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what I would have done. I was quite tired and paddling back two lakes was a tall order. I thought about having a nap in the truck before driving out. There was still the drive out of the woods and down the highway. Or camping out. Cabin or not I was a bit screwed on this outing! Thanks for coming out Mary, take care✌️

@@OpenAirOutdoors That's the thing abt northern Ontario eh? The drive home can be just as exhausting (and more perilous) as the paddle itself... I'm glad it all worked out for you...
