Strange Darling Review - A Standout Horror Movie Anchored by Two Terrific Performances

Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner are fantastic as two strangers who embark on a one-night stand that goes very wrong.

I don't think I'd seen Willa Fitzgerald or Kyle Gallner in anything, but their performances were absolutely incredible. This was a fun, unpredictable game of cat and mouse, and I enjoyed the nonlinear storytelling approach this took. I truly believe that Fitzgerald gave one of this year's best performances.

Willa was the lead actress in MTV Scream for 2 seasons, if your a Scream fan you may of seen it and not recognize it. That's where I first saw her from and it's so hard to believe how much she's grown and now putting on a stunning performance side by side Kyle Gallner who's been in so many horror movies over the years. You probably came across at least a couple of Kyle's movies if your a horror fan and he really changed up his look as he got older. This movie is so freaking good. Willa is stunning in looks and performance. Kyle's a definite modern day Scream King and I'm here for it.

Followed Willa since her MTV Scream days as the lead Emma Duval and she was great in that. Then saw her in Blood Money. She played this greedy bitch who plays a bigger villain than the actual villain lol. Then she was great in Desperation Road. Then in Reacher season 1. Kyle Gallner's always been great a modern day scream king and to me this is Emma Duval meets Vince Schneider (Scream fans will get that reference :D). These two make the hottest duo I've seen in horror in a long while and Willa puts on the best performance I've seen in horror in YEARS and that's saying alot. Easily movie of the year for me because I'm a major horror head and one of my favorite thrillers ever. Such a flawless thriller the genre's needed for a long ass time and Willa is someone to look out for. So happy people are finally recognizing her talents.

Good review! Not to be overly pedantic, but it's a thriller, not a horror movie.

Heh, I know I'm stretching things a bit, but I would qualify it as a horror-thriller if that helps? :) I would call it... horror adjacent. (and thanks!)

@@theericgoldman gotcha. I think thrillers are already horror adjacent since horror is a type of thriller, but I get your point.
