What I appreciate about the religion of The Seven is that while i can definitely see Christianity as it’s basis, it still doesn’t feel derivative. It feels lived in, it feels earned. Another great video as always
@Longshanks16904 ай бұрын
@@basementmadetapes Absolutely not, it’s the opposite of what you said. 😂 The FOTS is so painfully shallow and half assed with its history and culture that it’s blatantly clear George wasn’t even trying and finds the whole subject of theology to be very, very boring. So we have scant detail on the Faith aside from a few festival names, a few religious rituals, one singular theology lesson in the entire series and next to nothing about its history, schisms and different practises in regards to location and time period. It’s not even clear why a religion so clearly modelled on Catholicism is so blasé about the tree and sea worshipping pagans and have effectively adopted a policy of secular toleration with them. The FOTS is absolutely a cardboard cutout derivative of the Roman church with none of the substance, complexity and detail that actually makes the study of religion fascinating.

Fantastic video as always! Really looking forward to how ep 2x04 of HOTD handles Rhaenys, given the extent to which she has quietly moved seemlessly between multiple different belief systems, funerary rites, and death aspects through the first season. Fascinating subtle choices that have contributed a great deal of unexpectedly esoteric depth to a character that is also perhaps the most perceptive in most other ways, too. Very great way of paying tribute to the diversity of the character's background, not just as a Valyrian (both Targaryen and Velaryon), but a descendent of some of the oldest and most magical Westerosi houses, including the Durrandons and the Blackwoods. Great stuff.

Question: say a Tully woman marries a stark man, when she passes away is she interred in the crypts as per her husbands customs or is she returned to the riverlands for her cultures own ritual to be performed?
@TheDisputedLands4 ай бұрын
It is generally performed in the custom of that person's faith. If Catelyn had been cared for properly at death she would have either had her body taken to riverrun for a Tully river burial or her bones would have been stripped, sent to the North and laid to rest under the sept of winterfell.

There is also that statement of Tyrion's I heard you refer to - Will he get a new body when he lives again... or whatever it was. So there is some faction or group that believes in reincarnation? IDK - It seems to me that we have that old fashioned division of earth, wind, fire, and water ... oh, and ether (for those who go to live in the heavens as stars)... and really, there is no burial regarding wind - and it makes me think that we have water magic, fire magic, and earthen magic... and so shouldn't there be 3 aspects of the Gods? It confused me that there only seems to be the many faced God... and that unnamed other. There should also be that Merling King. This is quite confounding.

Hi, I’m going off topic here, it’s regarding something you covered in an earlier video. I wasn’t sure if you’d see it if I put a comment on that video. It’s regarding Euron as the third head of the dragon. That azor ahai is going to be taking over Euron essentially. I was wondering if you considered the possibility of blood raven being the one that does that(and maybe rejected it?). The idea that Euron has been contacted by blood raven as an earlier attempt at a bran type pupil has been discussed certainly, but i haven’t seen any theories re blood raven takeover. His choice of his coat of arms, the red eye with black pupil and crown held up by two crows, seems very blood raven influenced. Is he a failed pupil or someone being actively manipulated into thinking that they are connected and will be more bonded in the future (and that this circumstance will be beneficial and desirable to Euron)? The idea we get of blood raven is that he is willing to do morally reprehensible things to achieve certain ends. Would he bat an eye over skinchanging another person for keeps? Probably not. When Euron is talking to Victarion and there’s that line about “to make an heir that’s worthy of him”, it could fit with blood raven. He says “bring her back to me” but also uses “him”. The “him” is like the other part of himself, that has been with him since a boy. I like your stuff, you really dig in deep, well thought out and presented. Just curious what you think and if there’s any gaping holes that I’m not seeing. That is, if you have the time and inclination. No worries if you don’t.

@@Jazzinthedark84 like cayenne peppers? Or just a hard A?

@@TheDisputedLands kind of. So the "cay" bit is like "cay" in cayenne or that rhymes with "bay" (I know some people say ky-enne, but I don't know which is correct, so I just clarified that it would also rhyme with Bay). Then the "rns" is like in the word "urns", but take away the "u" at the start. So then cay-rns. It's a word of Scottish or Irish Gaelic (they're linked, but not identical languages. Irish Gaelic is often just called Irish) origin that means a pile of stones/rocks piled over a grave, or used as a memorial to the dead.
