MeatEater

3 жыл бұрын

Steven Rinella is on New Zealand's South Island for a do-it-yourself, free-range hunt for the majestic red stag. But first, he needs to secure some camp meat in the form of wild lamb. Battling weather and wary game in mountainous terrain, he uses his spot and stock hunting skills to discover Kiwi red stags are a trophy worthy of the wall and the cook pot. #MeatEater

@@jeffreybelko3383 It's interesting certainly, we can hunt all year round, no tags, no seasons except for gamebirds. But what intrigues me is hunting in other parts of the world also. There is that concept of other predators around that would just bring in a whole new experience - NZ, there is no large predators (bears, wolves, lions, etc.), so it's just you and the land/the animal you are after.

@SoulEjecta I get what you mean but, that's just so incorrect. The Didgeridoo is an Aboriginal instrument native to Australia and has absolutely nothing to do with New Zealand. Same with the Aboriginal and Maori cultures. They are so different in so many ways and aren't even from the same cultural groups, like Canadians and Americans (native populations included). The Aboriginals have been in Australia for over 50,000 years, whereas the Māori are a Polynesian group that inhabited New Zealand around the 1300s. Very different than Canada and America since those cultures come from a very similar origin. Not trying to be rude, just as a Kiwi I really dislike people saying stuff like this.

Nice shot. Kudos to you for holding off on that bigger stag. You got more discipline than me, lol. About twenty years ago in south Texas got an invite to hunt whitetails on a small ranch that was almost never hunted. Nobody else was out there that day. Was a two buck county, but it was kinda asked I not shoot more than one. Didn't think that would be an issue....but, got on the stand overlooking a powerline right of way (sendero). Didn't see a buck all morning, but I knew they were rutting. Finally about 10:00 am saw a small 6 point about 100 yards away as it stepped in the sendero. Put the crosshairs behind the shoulder and took the shot. The bucked jumped and ran into the brush. I was pretty confident I killed it, but before I got off the tripod I saw a large 9 point about 150 yards away in the other direction. The temptation devil tapped me on the shoulder and I dropped that buck with a quartering away shot behind the last rib. Of course I found the 6 point. It only went a few yards in the brush. Spent the rest of the day sneaking both bucks off the property and butchering them, lol. That 9 point was a big old buck. Swoll neck and scratches all over from fighting. My biggest Texas buck to date.

if you pass and get a firearms license ( involves police checks and a mountain safety course) your allowed everything except semi autos in centerfire ( excluding shotguns) , pistols without a b category endorsement( only for range use ) , and obviously full auto anything , suppressors are an off the shelf and don't need any special paperwork to have one. mosque shooter lost us our centrefire rifles unfortunately.

@@rileybell9707 we had mosque attacks here, we did nothing and changed nothing. I remember walking by the one in Calgary, and a bunch of guys were leaving they saw me white, blonde and probably not unlike their attackers in any way. They immediately averted their eyes and a few stopped in their tracks. We did wrong by these folks first with lack of education on their culture and religion and second with lack of justice. Probably getting a little deep, I know it sucks to lose a privilege we're losing privileges with guns here, too. But at least you guys did something to show people that what happened was unacceptable and was not part of your nations identity.

Great video, loved it. However, as a kiwi (new zealander) I found it rather strange you had indigenous Australian music in it 🤔 Its like if I went to the states and hunted elk and for my intro song I had the Canadian national anthem playing. Kind-of dosent fit right, Haha. Anyway, great seeing ya bagged a good looking stag and the lamb looked very tasty indeed 👌🤙😁
