Thank you for this review. I saw my library was having a book club meeting on this and I didn't know it until the night before so I am listening to this and going to go to the meeting without having read it so I can enjoy the meet up. Much appreciated!!! Great review. Reminds me of Brandon from MindShift- organized, clear and concise!

Glad to hear your positive review of this book, and I think I will probably purchase it soon. I would say though, it would have been nice to hear one or two things you learned from the book.

One thing I was wondering about this book is how it interacts with the subject of Nadya Williams’ work on cultural Christians in the early church, as in how Nijay addresses (or not) the presence of Christians who deviated from the strangeness of the gospel for the culture of that time.

Great question! So this is a very complementary book to Nadya's, in that it's doing something very different, but within the same historical period. Nijay focuses on what set pious/devoted Christians APART from their Greco-Roman context, while Nadya examines the ways early Christians were tempted to ACCOMMODATE to that same context. So they are kind of two sides of the same coin - reading them both is ideal! Hope that helps.
