Thank you for uploading this video. I shared and discussed it with my 90 year old disavled mother who was unable to see the eclipse firsthand. I have seen many con-trails pass over head and I believe this was just that. The caveat is that I have not witnessed a passing con-trail during an eclipse. Remember how the shadows became more defined and sharpened edges during an eclipse, so maybe this was the cause of the narrow shadow band?

BEST VIDEO OF THE 2024 ECLIPSE ON THE INTERNET!!!!! I wonder if the shadow moving across the field was an effect of the partial phasing into the edge of total. I observed 97.8 percent of the eclipse. We experienced a gradual fade of sunlight and then in the blink of eye everything became significantly dimmer. However, I was the only one in my group to notice it because everyone else had their glasses on and at that moment. I didn't. I just remember thinking that the edge of the moons shadow just passed by.

Did anyone notice the possible UFOs at the 21 minute mark, as the drone starts to rotate north, about mid sky, you will see a flashing light that looks cylindrical. Then at 21:15, facing east, you will see another cylindrical, stationary, light. At 21:34, the camera stops, facing south, and you will see a small flashing light that appears mid sky, just left of center, and the light rises up just a bit and then just disappears. Pretty interesting to me!

The solitary shadow stripe was probably a contrail. However at 19:20 I think I see shadow bands or shadow snakes (some people call it that) on the ground. That is an eclipse phenomenon caused by the edge of the shadow being diffracted by the atmosphere. It appears in the moments just before and after totality. Nice work!

The shadow looked like a contrail shadow that appeared to cross the ground because the moon was blocking off the sun's light causing the light to hit the ground from a slightly different angle in the sky making the contrail shadow to "move." I was hoping you had captured the moon's shadow racing across the earth at Mach 2, but you might need mountains in the background to see it.
@historyinyourownbackyard23639 ай бұрын
I'm thinking it's a contrail also.

Howdy, Howdy, Howdy, from Historic Guthrie, Oklahoma you have the best coverage of the eclipse. Thank you so much for sharing this. I wished I would have traveled to Eastern Oklahoma to view at 100% totality. I chose to stay home and view it at 95%. I hope you have a blessed day! Wendy❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸

Glad you liked the video! The 100% totality was definitely a moving experience. You might get a chance to experience the 2044 solar eclipse. I think it's suppose to be in the western half of the United States.

In the drone footage there is a very prominent white line of a cloud near the top of the screen. But the way the sun is shining I don't think I could be that. But it's definitely a weird looking cloud that's just a straight line with a bulbous tip on the right side of cloud.
@historyinyourownbackyard23639 ай бұрын
Another thing to notice, while I rotated the drone during totality you will see 3 bright lights blinking/shining in the distant sky. They are almost silver like. Could these have been jets???

Awesome video thanks for sharing this….the closest I got to seeing any eclipse was when I was a young teenager, and then it was only a partial eclipse. Any other time the clouds obscured the view. I would have loved to be where you were and taking pictures of this myself. It is rare to view a total eclipse, especially if one lives outside the pathway of the moon with the sun. Again, truly spectacular view you captured. Thank you for the experience….👍❤️🙏🏼

It was a Contrail. The lack of light from the moon blocking the sun allowed for high altitude clouds (and especially contrails near airports or tailing commercial flights prior to and following the eclipse) to be more prominent on the ground.

Thank you for sharing this! Around twenty minutes into this I noticed an airplane light blinking in the sky. Then fourteen minutes later a shiny object appears to be stationary in the sky. Could be an airplane heading the other direction beyond the shadow of the moon. Interesting to see and think about.
@historyinyourownbackyard23639 ай бұрын
If you look closely you will see those "shiny objects" in 3 different locations as the drone is being rotated. I'm not sure what those were.

I would love to know what the “shiny objects” were! I also noticed them! Other people that did videos of the eclipse saw strange objects in the sky. I think you captured them too! Great job!

That was awesome. Maybe the shadow on the ground was a plane trail clouds shadow? We were north of Middletown,Ohio and were in 100% totality. Almost had to put my jacket on when the temperature changed.

YES! It got chilly where we were also!

As far as the line I would say contrail. If thats real time it seems to be moving pretty fast so the winds aloft must have been really moving.. Anyone that has never heard that the eclipse shadow is moving at almost 1700mph are shocked..
@historyinyourownbackyard23639 ай бұрын
I thought it was a contrail also but that video is in real time so the shadow did move pretty quickly across the field.

I've never heard of this, but I think based on your drone pointing south and the moon shadow approaching from the southwest you may have documented something previously unseen or unknown in the form of a preceding thermal wave or in other words a temperature gradient that I see here is properly oriented before the shadow. Such thermal shock waves can effect the behavior of light itself. i think you captured this in your video and should share it with NASA since they're always wanting to learn from citizen scientists.

I did contact NASA a couple of days ago sending them the link to the video. I haven't heard anything back yet.

I googled it and this is what is says about that shadow line > BODEN: Shadow bands are thin, wavy lines of alternating light and dark that seem to race across the ground right before and right after the moon completely blocks out the sun. No one knows why this happens

Shadow bands look like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2jNZ39nfL2Vabcsi=HH24oG5idjK1-NoR&t=388 The shadow in the video was probably a contrail.

"History in Your Own Backyard" Yep, that was really in my own backyard, I'm a mile from the cemetery. I was lucky enough to get the day off work and spend it with friends and family from Cincinnati who came to watch the event. As the sun was disappearing behind the moon, all the Black Vulture's that infest the WM dump a mile west of the cemetery came flying back to the nightly roost behind my house. Hundreds of them all at the same time. It was like we were on the set of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds".
