Pickles and ketchup are really easy to make. What made these so alluring to shoppers? Did they contain chloroform, morphine, and alcohol, like patent medicine? These bottles are signs of a prosperous era when money could be squandered rather than carefully doled out for necessities.

The conical ribbed food bottles are E R Durkee of NYC salad dressings - found all over New England. Glass food bottle products were imported into the Midwest when the states were finally established, and the post-Civil War 1865-1920s railroad lines quickly transported the product (and beer and whiskey) to the local township stores.

That quill pen was a really great find, that would go right in my display case, broken or not. The last bottle would look nice with the sun shining through along with the blue bottle, tool top on another of your videos. Do you ever find coloured glass perfume bottles, did they make them as that would be something to find. I grew up with an outhouse at my Grandparents cottage, neighbours I visited as a kid! had a his and hers outhouse, they were inseparable, hahaha.

New to the channel, have you ever considered running a metal detector over the dirt to see if there are coins from the same era?
@BelowthePlains
@BelowthePlains Жыл бұрын
yeah we used to do that from time to time, and sometimes we invite someone out to detect with us, but theres usually so much rust in the pits thats turned into powder, so it sets the detector off a bunch.. it doesnt always happen but it happens enough that we got annoyed and kinda just quit doing it. we only really ever found wheat pennies.. im sure we've missed some good stuff before, but with the filming and digging, it just got to be alot. we are thinking about getting a better detector tho, to maybe help with all the background noise. thanks for watching!
