I saw the World of Outlaws at Flemington when it was dirt and the trucks once it was pave. But my favorite of these track was Louisville, described as having anywhere from 1 to 12 turns in the tri-oval configuration LOL
@gth804f Жыл бұрын
The Lakewood Speedway grandstands are still there, just overgrown. Amazing the nearby amphitheater hasn't done something with them. Louisville and Flemington were batty tracks. You're turning the entire time. They are on the NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition game by Papyrus/Sierra that was released with Cup, Busch, and Truck Series drivers and tracks (released in December 1998, and AFAIK the only single game released with Cup, Busch, and Truck Series tracks and rosters).

Flemington closed due to neighbors complaining about the noise. The reason it was paved was because neighbors complained about the dust. Track was doomed due to its location. The area grew fast around from empty farmland. Could have been making millions but would have still closed.

Fun to see Louisville Motor Speedway represented, was young when it closed but my love of motorsport comes from the time I got to spend there. Now it's a UPS facility, which took way too much time for them to get started building. (The track just sat there to rot for a few years as I recall.)

I miss Louisville Speedway. Not sure if it was the first night they raced, but I was there very early on. Went many times for various races, including monster trucks, NASCAR trucks, Dash series. Ron Hornaday described it to my dad and I as "nine turns and a jump", as there was a bit of a ski jump off the fourth turn onto the front stretch. It's a shame the way it closed. All that remains is the frame of the sign at the entrance.

I was going to say the same thing. Actually, it’s hard to believe it lasted as long as it did. It’s a track that probably should have died at the end of the 50’s.

I grew ip going to Louisville Motor Speedway. It was a lot of fun. Brunton Smith bought it just to move the Truck race to the just completed Kentucky Speedway. Nascar was pissed and so were local fans. A warehouse stands on the site now.

How many great tracks has Bruton Smith killed!? I mean he had to have security guards for the last North Wilkesboro weekend in 1996 because he was scared someone would attempt to attack or kill him for taking away the dates! At least his son is trying to atone for his father's sins against stock car racing. North Wilkesboro should have NEVER left the NASCAR calendar, and it needs an Xfinity race too!

Great information. I would like to see more videos like this. NASCAR has lost its roots for the most part. They need to return to tracks like N. Wilkesboro among others.

Definitely missed a lot of important info on Flemington. Louisville was intriguing to me. It's odd they expanded it into essentially a circle. Not sure who thought that was going to be a good idea! Trenton also should have made this video.

The region of Northeastern Pa./Western NJ had the most unique tracks in the United States - you had Langhorne, Flemington, Pocono, Trenton and Nazareth, all one of a kind layouts that have never been duplicated. (Except Langhorne - Mahoning Valley Speedway is also a circular track but a 1/4 mile also in the same area & is still in operation today)

Pavement Modifieds in the late '80's were spooky. Built so strong and stiff for improved and predictable handling , the cars would survive a crash, looking relatively unscathed, but the driver would be dead from deceleration trauma. Thankfully, life has become more precious as we go along. I still think the "cocoon" could be even more forgiving, designing race cars from the cockpit out. No true fan wants to see a driver hurt.

I knew that thumbnail was Louisville Motor Speedway. The expansion absolutely ruined a great track. I used to go most weekends and the place was family-friendly, clean, and well-appointed. The tri-oval was met with a collective “Thumbs Down” from one and all. Just as is mentioned in the video, it was a crash-fest when they raced the big track because of the huge bumps where the old oval track joined the new section. The cars would get out of kilter and wipe out, lap after lap. Everyone hated it and the track soon closed. One of the biggest “Self-Own” needless failures I’ve ever seen. Still mystifies me after all these years.

Had he not been a back marker driver the race would have been cancelled as he was obviously dead in the truck pathetic how blood hungry and greedy motorsports was during those years. As far as soft walls go it may not have saved his life. What kinda pressure was on him to be trying to go three wide in the tri oval at texas motor speedway. Its not like he was trying to pass some backmarkers . Senseless
