For me, the best mission would be if Artur and Javier heard the children trying to get out of the cabin while going to rob Chez Porter and at the same time save their mother from the clutches of the Porter family.

The original easter egg was probably a reference to travis butler. A 9 year old boy whos mother died, and he lived with her body for a month because he was scared of child protective services and his biggest fear was never seeing home again. I think the mother would have just dropped dead instead of her being killed, and the boys were so grief stricken they couldnt come to terms with her death and lived with the body.

I would like to take the kids to the sheriff because they could probably gave you directions on where there mom went like a robbery tip. Then after you take them to the sheriff he would keep them until either the parents or send them to st denis to the shelter. Where you could go find the mother at the location save her, take her back to get the kids, take her to the train station and give her some money to get them out of town. In the epilogue let John meet them and they reminisce about Arthur saving them as kids.

Fun fact: you can hear them alive if you are really early game (before getting lock breaker) but you cant break down the door for some reason. probably links to the scrapped mission mabye. Most likely you had a certain time limit until they starved initially

I read a while ago there was another outcome to this, apparently Arthur approaches the house where the kids start yelling from inside the house were there mother went to track down the gang that stole from them and said she would be back in a day like the letter said, apparently its been a few days and they ran out of food, Arthur had the option to tell them to stay put and wait or get them to leave the cabin.

They probably had a plan to have different ways. Like that prisoner with dead person near Shady Belle who wants to shoot his chain, which if not done can be found later dead with him. Which they went with these 2 being dead as one outcome (dead) and creeps talking about the woman instead of 2 (ignore and found dead). As for the woman, she got removed for this reason than being dead with them on another outcome. What makes it weird in this game is Arthur doesn't have any reactions when he finds these stuffs. While he only has a single reaction in entire game when he enters a meteor house. Even when he finds psychopath Downry Jr clues and inside of his basement. John in RDR always had reactions when he visits abandoned places.

it does always make me sad when i hear about things like this that ended up getting axed in the end. Would've been cool playing this out. as well as the princess one. But its understandable that they probably just run short on time.. or decide in the end certain things are better as more of a mystery.

Either version is incredibly sad, though made better by killing off the robbers over at Chez Porter no matter what for what they'd done. I personally would've liked even a small chance at saving the boys even if the mother's body was absent from the cabin. A far nicer option than going to that one cabin that the tiny meteor struck and everyone got turned to bloody bits or the other cabin where the chimney pipe busted and everyone died of smoke inhalation. The only other solace I think can be found from this whole secret is how the boys never turned to murder/cannibalism in order to get by, having died of hunger/dehydration/disease long before turning to such desperate options. So yeah, saving them as Arthur and maybe seeing them again as John would've been a nicer turn of events with this secret.

Thanks for enlightening Chez Porter, there is additional dialogue that can be heard in that place if u revisit the place where the young guys talk to the woman in the family. Then if u sneak into the cabin to the right u can overhear a dialogue between the father and son about the awakening, sounds interesting.

When I entered the house, a pack of wolves surrounded the house and was waiting to ambush me. So I took that as an extra layer to the story and it better explained why they were trapped in their home instead of leaving for help

This one I figured out on my own on the first playthrough. You can sneak up to the Chez Porter house outside of the Javier mission as well for some dialogues. I was very happy to hogtie them all and burn them alive in a pile 👍🏽

Damn... I always figured it was O'Driscolls that robbed them and killed her. I never thought about the odd family at Chez Porter... The dialogue doesn't make an exact match since they don't mention any robbery or children, but I suppose it could be her.

I thought that. The dialogue says (as best as I understand it) they spotted a girl at the market and snatched her, hid her in woods. Doesn't say "we robbed our nearest neighbour of money and she came calling then we killed her". I dunno.

If i remember correctly, the chez porter family are a bunch of inbreeds and cultist. Basically the father is the only one who can reproduce with his daugthers and wifes and he is like somekind of god himself ( i think) and they are preparing for the ceremony, when he dies one of his sons will inherit the title or Role of the father. There are some uniques dialogues when the player already had rob the house before Javier giving the mission, maybe it will be other diaologue or clues if the player return as Jhon Marston if you did this mission before whitout killing anyone.

I found the cabin,I think everyone did,I guess the only way to tie the dots about this easter egg is if you hit those kidnappers right after you find the cabin and before the mission which you can (possibly a bug),this is also a tip so you can get extra money stash before you do the mission with Javier,you can hit those kidnappers twice.

What made the mother think it would be a good idea to track down and confront the gang that robbed her family all by herself? She should’ve gone to town and gotten the sheriff. Either way this Easter egg is sad af because people living in houses in the woods far from towns did get robbed a lot back in the day and still do in some places. I’m so glad Arthur and Javier wiped out those crazy hippies.

It's horrible that the kids had to die such a painful death, but at the end of the day, we can hope that the whole family reunion somewhere on the other side. Hell know what was happening to orphans and poor kids in those times. Maybe they would be separated, left in the wrong place or abusive family. Plus the trauma of living with your dead mother for we don't know how long and not being able to get out

I much prefer the current mysterious scene not knowing but wanting to know and if you can find the mother or not. RD2 is a very immersive game to the locals talking about you and the gang randomly in the crowds. The newspapers also talking about you/ gang, clues to other odd things going on in the world. I haven't played it in a couple years but it's amazing, playing with a good quality headset to hear the nature around you and helps a ton when hunting. Tldr rd2 is a great game.

When I went to the cabin and kicked the door open it was filled with smoke. And there was smoke coming into the cabin from the flume. I assumed that the kids forgot to flip the damper and suffocated.

I’d like any version of this secret that gives us actual gameplay and not just a empty cabin with dead kids and a mystery. Open the pub and general store in Anesburg, let us do the IBZ missions, there’s so much more to this game and I think R* and Take 2 kinda left the game incomplete, it’s pretty sad that they have the capabilities to make one of the best games out and they chose to cut out some of the most interesting parts. I’m sure GTA6 will be amazing but don’t take away from other titles to make GTA, it’s already going to take forever, give your audience something to do while we wait.
