So, take this however you wish, but some of the information here about carbon emissions and pollution is not quite true--not through any fault of your own, because you're not an expert--but it's important to realize that the US and Europe's dependence on Chinese and Indian-made products means that we can't ever divorce US/European consumption from Chinese and Indian emissions. Americans generated 35 million tons of plastic waste in 2015 and recycled 9.5 percent of it. (source: www.epa.gov/recycle/how-do-i-recycle-common-recyclables#pla ) If you live in a state with a serious recycling program, like I do (Washington), it's dizzying to take clamshells, box windows, box plastic and usually bubble wrap and separate them all out. It's a Texas Sharpshooter fallacy to say that China, at least, is a bigger problem than the USA when China is on track to meet strict emissions goals and the USA has disengaged from the Paris agreement. I'm trying to say this without being too political. I like seeing my Hasbro toys when I buy them to know whether what's in the package is a lemon, so hopefully they can use some weird corn-based compostable plastic window or something. The topic of pollution and emissions has been politicized, unfortunately, but as the recent DNC vote showed, there's ill will toward any significant action in both parties. I don't care if a Republican incentivizes de-plasticking with free-market solutions or a Democrat taxes added plastics or both. I just want my kids to be able to eat fish, not have microplastics rain down on them, and have a decent quality of life. On a lighter note, maybe we can recycle Kadmos's flimsy-ass feet if Planet X comes to their senses and issue a die-cast foot kit. Just a few things to read if you get some time: 2018 saw a massive uptick in US carbon emissions after years of falling--3.4 percent. www.nytimes.com/2019/01/08/climate/greenhouse-gas-emissions-increase.html Plastic in the ocean is such a problem that microplastics have joined the weather patterns: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/aug/12/raining-plastic-colorado-usgs-microplastics The dick-waggling trade war doesn't help: heraldpublicist.com/china-debunks-carbon-emission-goals-report-says-trade-war-risks-climate-targets/

Awesome sit down Saturday 👍 They do have clear bio plastics and I agree with you about the impact of other countries. As far as packaging is concerned I think collector oriented lines are a significant enough revenue stream as a whole for them to really take into consideration how their figures are displayed in box. I personally would love smaller packaging that doubles as storage . I also backed Unicron... crossing my fingers he gets made👍

Frankly, removing plastic from their packaging is a great move, and I applaud Hasbro for doing so. Anything we can possibly do will be helpful. If everyone has the attitude of "we're not the main problem so let's do nothing", then nothing will ever get done and we'll all be screwed. It truly doesn't matter what "in box" collectors think with regards to toy packaging. That shouldn't even be worth mentioning when you consider the scale of what's happening on our planet right now.

I'm a Hybrid Collector. I keep nearly all packaging, and some items are never opened, usually duplicates if the price is right tho. Great video Skullface, perhaps Hasbro intends to use some form of resin to replace the plastic components of their packaging. However I don't believe Hasbro is doing away plastic packaging for environmental reasons more than financial reasons, with the cost of petroleum being somewhat uncertain and the cost and energy required to manufacture plastics, it makes sense for Hasbro to dedicate their resources to the product as opposed to what Hasbro plans to use to present the product. Anyways, I do hope Planet X has more IDW stuff on the way,, and I am looking forward to their Victory Leo.

I'm less concerned about the carded/transparent packaging, more about how I'm going to ensure I dont get a dud figure. Their paint apps are sometimes not the best, etc, whether TF, MMPR, Legends, etc, and while I appreciate Japan, etc, may fine w Figuarts, etc, often being "blind-boxed" essentially, I dont quite think Hasbro's price point and figures are at that consistantly quality standard where I'd be comfortable getting a character without being able to look it over first to ensure I got decent paint apps. Hopefully they still have ways to ensure everythings visible, or have a robust exchange/replacement program in place whenever these changes begin...
@ToaofAnarchy195 жыл бұрын
If you've ever bought a titan class transformer, or the new commander class Jetfire, they've all been pretty much as we expected them to be, without having a window. Same with a lot of Star Wars vehicles. The need to pull plastic from packaging is far, far more important than people's individual worry about a dud figure.
@WalkingTiger5 жыл бұрын
Less on the TF end, more on the Marvel Legends, MMPR, end. It's not the case at all there. Black Series is fairly consistent quality, but there's a large amount of Marvel Legends and especially their new (but Legends style) MMPR figures that have had very poor paint apps. The "need" to do anything doesn't outweigh someone's dollar value in choosing to buy or not to buy a figure, in the end, it's people's decision to buy something that becomes the most important in the end, we speak with our dollars, and my need to buy poor quality figures without the ability to inspect them may not seem important to others, but it is to my, and every individual's wallet.
@ToaofAnarchy195 жыл бұрын
@@WalkingTiger Ultimately though, if you do end up with an incomplete figure, that is an issue that can be solved. And it's much less of an issue than the amount of plastic polluting the environment.

Nothing's a larger issue to me as a consumer than wasting my money at the end of the day, and Hasbro has never been known to mail replacement figures just because you have ones with paint splotches across them, cross-eyes, etc , but to each their own, as they say.

If there are less toy stores to visit, and more people are shopping online, it makes sense to drop window boxing and other such immediate, plastic based displays in their packaging. Sure, millennials on up will particularly feel a pang of nostalgia at their disappearance, but it makes sense-and makes for good PR. Still, it is unfortunate that you won’t be able to see if there are any obvious defects. So, we’ll just have to hope that Hasbro follows through with a more generous and/or competent warranty/return policy. Then again, I mostly buy Iron Factory legends, so this doesn’t really effect me... 🤗

I dont believe the packaging window will effect us that much. The takara mp line is boxed up with no window to see the figure, and that hasn't really stopped us from having it in box it just forces us to buy a second to actually see the figure. That's my 2 cents.
@JONNYSORENSEN_AU5 жыл бұрын
I collect loose toys, so the boxes dont matter to me. I'd like an option for NO PACKAGING WHATSOEVER as it is terribly wasteful. I just got SIEGE Jetfire, who had some nice art on the front of the box and no window, like most Combiner box set and Titan toys, can't say I miss the window on these larger size boxes, and it's been standard on those ones for a long time.
@jon-5805 жыл бұрын
I don't agree that "tradition" matters, however I and many people I've spoken too WANT to see the actual toy we're buying. Hasbro has a history of QC issues, especially with Transformers and being able to see the toy is the only way to verify that your toy isn't missing parts, or doesn't have two left arms or something. I know some of their larger toys like Siege Jetfire, Trypticon and CW Devastator come in boxes without windows however given the price of those toys people are more likely to see a refund or replacement if they are broken in the box. Returning a $10-20 toy because it's broken out of the box when you get it home is just a hassle and is going to put a barrier for me to purchase toys I'm not sure I want.

So the only thing that I can think of is leaving the toy exposed like some products, but then that leaves the product's accessories exposed to for theft. I have no idea what they're going to do because the big thing that first came to mind when I heard the no plastic window was the Toy Swappers, Why is that even a thing??? but yea if you can't see what is inside I think some Toy swappers are going to have a field day and its going to suck for the people who are buying the toys since they won't know they had a toy swapped out till they get home. Or heaven forbid they're the collectors who keep it inbox they'll never know,

I am mostly an opener with my figures especially Transformers. At the same time I have pieces, typically exclusives like the last SDCC Fett that I will keep on the card unless I get a second one. That figure in my opinion loses half of its value and demand instantly the second you only produce it in a box or packaging with no window? Like you said unless there is another option for bubbles/windows on packaging this will affect the community largely. I could see some people saying screw it and quit collecting altogether. Who would wanted vintage figures either scale in closed boxes with no bubble? There would be no point. Then again it’s a transition and maybe by 2022 they don’t plan on making vintage style anymore anyway?

In mainline TF, over the years, there have been many Transformers that didn't live up to the box art. Of course collectors will be clued up about what they're buying from internet reviews and suchlike. I still think honesty requires them to show the product. I collect MP scale Transformers, but those aren't Hasbro. I also collect Masters of the Universe Classics, but those are Mattel (who inevitably will follow suit if this curries the political brownie points I'm sure Hasbo is playing for). If they can keep some part of the packages transparent they'll be better off for collectors, but let's just call this what it is - a political ploy to jump on the green train.
