The main issue I have with the Zeta (other than size) is he is mirrored front to back. He look like he could just turn his head and arms around and just go the other way. They are definitely being more clever in the transformation but having to explode those legs and arms and chest panels to make up the surface of the planet may be a pain.

The HasTak Unicron maw looks better, like actually teeth instead of panels that flip out like a Cloud City exhaust port. I will give Zeta points for less sculpted lines and for a better looking face.

Olay after watching the Test shot video credit where it's due, Zeta outclassed Haslab on that transformation. But I bet they couldn't make it 27 inches and make money on it. Hasbro should halt production, copy Zetas engineering, call it a 2.0 and send it out at an even $600.

Good discussion as always.Yep, you're spot on about the legal technicalities of KO's which are effectively derivatives of existing molds and then you have Intellectual Property infringement as well. KO companies who think by adding flaps to cover gaps in mold creates a unique object are mistaken (in my opinion), an example of this would be Wei Jiangs KO of the Power of the Primes Predaking. I honestly think we're seeing a slow death here because a lot of collectors are starting to see their own slow death approaching. Life's too short, and many collectors wish to put a lid on collecting Transformers/3P and move on.

I work for a law firm and spent many years working in the corporate world before coming to this private practice. IF Hasbro ever decides to pursue these companies, the KO companies would absolutely be their first targets. They directly impact their bottom line, and I'm sure it's something they are aware of. But, there are substantial costs in filing a lawsuit like this, so it will likely depend on how large of an impact that market has on their bottom line. Anything less than 1% isn't an issue for them, but if it were to climb to 5% then yeah, they might proceed forward with a lawsuit. When it comes to Third-party releases, each individual company holds such a small percentage of the market place, I really don't see them pursuing any type of lawsuit there. It just doesn't make sense, as the costs would far outweigh the benefit. And Bobby is right, going after Third-party companies is incredibly more difficult and the type of lawsuit required is far more complex, which means it is far more costly to do so.

Re: the size of both Unicrons, I completely understand the need for some sort of universal scaling system. My scale is MP size. It's the same reason I went with Power of the Primes Predaking over MMC's Feral Rex (I know everyone thinks I'm insane). Feral Rex is clearly a better looking figure but he's a midget. He comes up to POP Predaking's stomach.

Being a Classics collector, the Zeta Unicron has my interest. It's bigger than the Energon and looks great in bot mode. The planet mode, especially the ring, is a bit disappointing but otherwise a solid option. With the $200 price tag rumor it's keeping me on the fence for the official one. Great upgrade in my case to replace the Energon version.

Regarding the global environment issue, I appreciate your honesty and boldness in asking the questions you asked. The truth is China is the globes greatest polluter by miles and they don’t share the environmental concerns we do. As we handicap ourselves with restrictions while they run their country without restrictions, how does that effect our economies and global standing. What’s to become of the environment if we give up too much ground to China? Furthermore, how ‘green’ are our solutions? Our hybrid cars require much materials to be pulled from the earth in addition to a lot of pollution made to create these batteries and other materials required to produce these things. Are we actually doing anything or simply virtue signaling to look cool in front of our friends or not be shunned by our sheep minded society?

The extension isn’t a good look... and I’m glad they’re doing it. Sometimes rules are wrong and should be changed. Yes, it’s embarrassing to admit you made the rules wrong, but the answer to that embarrassment isn’t to “just eat it.” Like you said, the designers wanna see this thing made, I certainly wanna see this thing made, and for that to happen the deadline had to be extended. Still might not happen but it was definitely not gonna happen if they just let it sit for the sake of the rules. In short, I don’t really have sympathy for everybody saying they shouldn’t have extended it because it “looks bad for them” Yes it looks bad for them but it’s not a matter of looks it’s a matter of getting this thing out there.

Oh come on, the scale doesn't work with any line of TF and never will! Unicron is the size of Saturn! Do you know how big a toy would have to be to scale anywhere near accurately with any TF line? Scale is irrelevant with the character. Shelf presence isn't scale.

Rick Emi watched a new test shot video and he looks good but he will weigh less than 5 pounds and things were popping off of him left and right. tolerances seemed to be an issue as well. I will hold final judgment but I’m not sold on it after watching that video. Keep in mind it has diecast and yet weighs less than 5 pounds? That screams weak plastic to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️ time will tell.

“Zeta makes good stuff” I think we have a definition of “good”. I recently purchased their Bruticon, hot garbage. I literally boxed it right back up and sold it within 24 hrs. And I’ve heard their arielbots are even lighter and cheaper feeling. No spank you! They need to really come correct on Unicron if they want to be successful with it, as it already has a strike against it with its smaller scale.

I heard that the overseas preorders were not yet included. Don't know whether or not that's true but I think it will be key to whether it succeeds. If that spike was the overseas numbers, they've had all the spikes they're gonna get; if that spike was last minute backers trying to get it over the line, then a second spike from overseas sales might get it to 8000. Cookie Monster was nowhere near but this one will be close. I think it'll be very interesting what happens if Hasbro get 7800 backers... or 7500... or 7200... I think there is a line to be drawn for how close to the 8000 they can still put it out without undermining the crowdfunding model. There'll also be a line to be drawn for how much profit they need to make to satisfy investors. To me, if a product costs £100 to make (including, critically, paying for labour) and sells out at £101 then that's a win - everybody gets a profit, people's wages get paid and Hasbro makes a profit. But investors, I gather, typically look for a percentage return...

Hasbro has been laughably pathetic with this extension and it wreaks of desperation. They said they HAD to end it by Aug due to fluctuating world oil prices...now extended. So they lied. They said there are 6000 orders already. Another lie. I understand why you moved to mostly 3p. I also agree that they want to make this and knew it was going to failI so they pawned off an extension as listening to fans, lol, all in the same week as they say there will be more price increases to protect retailers. Honestly, I have zero respect left for Hasbro at this point, sadly. As Unicron can never ever scale, as mathematically he apparently needs to be 3 miles tall, I am more than fine with Zeta's stellar and affordable offering. Hey Bobby, love the videos and have a question for you. With the winding down and eventual stop of third party transformers, are there any figures or characters you would want made before that happens? This can be teams and incomplete seasons also. My personal choices would be: MMC's DJD (we only need two more members) Transmetal 2 Dinobot from Perfect Effect (love the character and Perfect Effect would do the design justice) Ultra Magnus from Fanstoys (never been a big fan of the Takara one) Constructicons from Fanstoys (assuming they can make a good combiner) Trypticon from Make Toys (I still love the Maketoys Metroplex and really want a Trypticon to go with it)

You should take both Bobby, coz Zeta robot mode is at top notch much more toon accurate than haslab. Why not getting 1 for the planet mode while the other as a robot, I'm sure you can afford it? If you talking about the scale, we both know that these can only be fit with the legends no matter how big they are. There's no way it can match with your masterpiece even with the same aesthetic coz they are meant to be different world - like legend vs masterpiece. This happens to be a Titan from the legend world.

MP-44 is too expensive for the final product. Not very clean looking in vehicle and robot mode. What's even sadder is all these poor saps saying that the backpack and the rear legs don't bother them much in an attempt to justify the $450 they blew. Hasbro can give two shits about customers. As opposed to third party companies who are actual fans and make stuff that they themselves would buy. It doesn't get any better than MS-01 or TE-01. That's as good as it's ever going to get.

I cancelled my haslab order when I found out it’s 20 lbs. that is just too heavy. I prefer the zeta look and transformation. And I think the size is perfect. Unicron is never going to scale with anything anyway. I just hope it’s closer to 10 lbs.
