The loot does matter as I stated before you need them to create builds as you can't just rely on one build throughout the whole game as there are many situations which require many different builds, but also the optimize-gear option is only based on your gear's level and base stats (The base stats in particular stop increasing after level 300), not on affinities or special effects which are far more important. Plus there is also the fact that you need materials in order to upgrade/change the special effects of your gear, and you can only get those materials if you dismantle your old gear. The optimize gear function is necessary however because when you are playing the game and going through the main campaign for the first time, the game is more concerned with making sure you are good at the game's primary combat mechanics before it starts pushing you to make builds on Chaos mode and higher, because you can't be good with your builds if you are not good at the combat system as your builds 100% rely on you being good at the combat in order for them to be effective. The optimize gear function will only help you on Easy and Normal, maybe Hard if you are good enough, but on Chaos and higher, it will be about as effective as throwing a pebble at a brick wall because the game will be too hard for the optimize gear function to be reliable. One thing to note too is that your jobs level up based on what affinities you have equipped, with higher affinity meaning more EXP is earned. In other words, you can level up a job even if you aren't actually using it at that point as long as you have it's affinity equipped, which makes the looting system much more useful as you can swap out affinities if you need to level one or the other up. The affinities themselves being on gear that at first don't make sense, does make sense if you actually pay attention to what their benefits are. One example is Red Mage's 250% affinity, which reduces the charge-up time for charged-based attacks, this includes all magic abilities, combos abilities, and other action abilities like Breaker's Zantestuken, which is one of the more OP abilities in the game.

Ah... yes the only thing more dangerous than an angry Tonberry with a chef's knife... a kid with a plastic bottle, we're truly in the age of Chaos now! I agree Extra mode is just too much loot/RNG/difficulty jank, it's like battle options of the Bravely series (which allows to control the enemy encounter rate, the difficulty settings and if you'll receive rewards like money or not) but literally dialed up to 500 without respecting the player's time, I enjoy difficult games but mandatory grinding and exploiting (potentially) game breaking mechanics just to prevent regular mooks from insta-killing you is just archaic game design imo. On the brightside the base game was pretty fun (Jack's chaotic chad energy was both epic and hilarious to see) and I enjoyed seeing Bahamut as well as Gilgamesh in the DLC too (fighting them not so much).

Great Video man. A few notes. Regarding the useless classes at around 10:30: Every class is viable, i will say some are harder to play than others. For example one of the best sop players in the world - master ninja ryu - plays ronin and duellist, two basic classes in lategame. Regarding the loot, you can turn on a setting so you only pick up purple gear or rarer for example. Also every mission has a loot table, where specific loot and affinites drop more often. Makes farming easier. In your first playthrough you will pretty much equip whatever is the highest level though, that is correct. Extra Mode exists because many final fantasy fans would get crushed on chaos difficulty and beyond and the dlcs can only be played on that difficulty (or so I thought). Team Ninja Fans on the other hand do not mind the challenge. You played on hard, but the jump from normal or story to chaos is pretty rough.

Can agree that the difficulty balancing in the Postgame/DLC is...very weirdly skewed, putting it mildly. SoP is definitely a game where you wanna focus on a build and then minmax your way to stronger and stronger gear with higher stats and passive effects that suit your playstyle. And yeah, it does get hella grindy due to the RNG aspect. In a way it's kinda like making endgame builds in Sunbreak, except if the monsters dropped weapons and armor instead of materials. Due to Fusing and stat increasing though the difficulty gets more manageable, but it's time intensive. Funny you mention Extra Mode because as it turns out, there's a specific section of the DLC that straight up disables it. You can use it on all normal map missions even in Lufenia difficuly, but the Labyrinth of the Rift is different. In the Labyrinth you CAN use it...but only up to floor 21, because all of the story progress to unlock Lufenia difficulty is on floors 1-21. 22 and onward is the true nigh endless grind (literally. It used to cap at Floor 100, but with the last DLC it goes all the way up to Floor 99999. Enemy stat scaling stops around floor 250 or 300 from what I've heard, so it really is play until you get bored), and you cannot select Extra Mode for any portals from then on. So at that point you HAVE to get a solid build together in order to make things manageable. Get your Job Levels up, allocate Master Points to stats and passives, fuse the best gear you can Stacking affinities so you can stack stats upon stats and basically dismantle anything you don't see yourself using a passive for fusion to keep materials up...and I haven't even mentioned Raising Monsters which is something that gives you *even more stats and passives*, but only inside the Rift Labyrinth. It stacks a LOT to the point where it can feel like a Disgaea game. Rewarding to stack all the numbers up, but definitely a time investment that won't be for everyone. I'm up to floor 35 right now and still slowly putting my Sage build together. Currently for me Job Levels are capped at 250, but they're supposed to be able to go up to 300 so I guess the unlocks for those are higher up the labyrinth. And with Lufenia difficulty balanced around Floor 30...yeah, I can understand you putting it down. Will not lie, I abused Extra mode where I could to grind (Good Tip: Mix Knight and Paladin Affinities and get them both to 400% on your build, and you'll be *literally* invincible in Extra Mode, no other buffs required) and clear the DLC story until I could get a decent enough build to really head up the labyrinth. Still enjoying the gameplay loop myself, but won't say there haven't been frustrating moments. I kinda just wanna be able to get Sage to 300 and max the hell out of it and then I'll be satisfied. Glad you had fun with the Base Game, though! I fought the final boss as a Tyrant. Just SOOOOO damn satisfying literally punching it to smithereens. Wholeheartedly recommend the base game to anyone interested, it's just a lot of fun. Agree with you on the DLC, minmaxers who love a challenge and grinding will have fun, but you're gonna need the time to invest in it so it's not for everyone.

Every class is viable even surprisingly lesser classes for example of the new Marksman Hunter Gambler trio Marksman is the GOAT even thought its the starter of the 3. Same goes for Ronin over Samurai cause the class skill has a shorter commitment, and a Swordsman when built right is game breaking. Yes I agree with you the drops/inventory management is a nightmare.
@sanguinetales Жыл бұрын
There are a few ways to coax your build to what you want it to be using the Fuse mechanic so all you need is the materials and the loot. You can graft any affinity onto any other item as long as it has a double affinity already(can't put 2 on an Item that has 1 but you can combine an item with 2 and feed it an item with 1 so you can weed out the worse of the 2 affinities
@BadButterfly65 Жыл бұрын
Since the base game the post game was a reflex game. Parry or die. The weird thing with extra mode is a different. For one it came with the 2nd dlc if i remember correctly because many cried it was to hard and to do story you need to grind. So atleast until it got included, you had ro grind in 2 shot territory to up the itemlevel just to not get oneshot by lil attacks. Itemlevel it a great factor for break dmg. Just one level below can be quite a doozie later on. So now the problem is, that you can grind with multipliers on hand in extra and get clapped 2 or 3 shot becaue you have no response awareness of the true difficulty. Or you painfully hit wall after wall quite quick and repeat the same levels over and over to not get a rude awakening when you turn extra off. And as he said. To complete the game without much trouble, you cojld just let extra mode on. Its like story Mode in FF7Remake. A bit harder i figure but yeah... I dunno why they did it that way, but its a tough nut to crack for sure.

Yea every single class matters if you know how to properly build in the game, particularly with their affinities which all have great and useful effects. Some even have affinities that play off each other like how having 400% Dark Knight and 250% Berserker will grant you infinite Protect and Shell or Tyrant's 400% affinity giving you critical attacks on status afflicted enemies, which is useful for Assassin's Assassinate ability. Berserker in particular is great against enemies like the Nightmare Horses who were the most annoying MFers until I tried it on them. Lancer's Throw ability is great for killing enemies that are lined up in a group, and if you have Dragoon's 250% perk which makes all enemies killed by an action ability Soul Burst, then you got yourself a way to quickly farm MP and Max MP. I was using basic-level jobs all the way too, Swordman's spinning slash is great if your surrounded and if you know how to build with the proper stats and gear, can turn that ability into a chainsaw, Swordfighter's shield bash can stagger enemies and interrupt their unavoidable attacks. Dragoon's Jump can be used to jump over unavoidable attacks and quickly counter the enemy, etc. When you get to the expansions, you get way more options to customize your builds, like subclasses for your jobs, Chaos effects, Summon Affinities, Fusion, accessories that give you 400% affinity perks and enemy abilities, new jobs with their own affinities, even increasing job levels limits which net you masterpoints to spec into internal stats and perks separate from your gear, unlocking higher affinity levels which all come with their own perks, and so many more and interesting ways to create builds. It's not all unnecessary, the game becomes harder with each knew expansion, requiring you to think outside the box when it comes to your builds. I remember struggling on Bahamut mode until I made a build that completely turned it into a joke, that build did not carry me through Gilgamesh mode and I had to make new ones for it, and those new one did not carry me through Lufenia mode, which I had to make more for. The only problem I have though in regards to all this, is that the amount of customization options you get after Chaos mode becomes mostly reserved for Jack, his party members don't even get subclasses, no new jobs, and even their job limit unlocks don't offer masterpoints too. Couple that with their bad and uncontrollable A.I and lack of being able to properly issue commands to them, they become more and more useless as the difficulty increases with each expansion.

This game was really a breath of fresh air for the FF series. I really think we need more of varied FF spin offs like these. As budget-y this felt, the gameplay is golden. If this got a Nioh 2-levels of polished sequel about FFI plot, starring custom Warrior of Light, hoo boy I'd be all over it!

I think the whole loot System greatly increase the Value of the Game. The whole Affinity System gives you so much Freedom in Terms of Building a Character because with that it makes Sense to put on a lower level Gear with worse Substats but higher Job Affinity. Its more a bigger Risk+Reward System. You had the Same System back in Monster Hunter before World with the old Skill System. 1 Charm could give you so much more freedom in Terms of Set Building. I really love this System but i can agree with that much randomness its super annoying sometimes to get that specific Pieces you want.

From what I remember, extra mode didn't exist until people started complaining that they couldn't play on chaos difficulty. You are actually not supposed to use it, it's more like a "journalist mode" There's also an issue of the game not explaining how you could use all your tools to make real builds for chaos mode.

idk if they have fixed this yet, but the loading might have to do with the models quality and quite possibly some textures maybe? (idk about the textures), models are quite literally some of the most high poly counts you will see in a game cus they are "straight out of zbrush", no optimization was done to them, it felt weird how oddly hd the characters looked like when i played the game, like they where too damn good for the ps3 lighting aesthetic they did for this game, like, you get your camera close and you won't see a damn straight line poligon there

The whole system of this game is bizarre. What I ended up doing was grinding the early enemies of the dlc enough to have gear that matched the level which only took 20 minutes and then just played whatever job I had the gear for until things for my builds started dropping on the higher levels. The difficulty wasn’t the issue. The issue was the whole point of the DLC is just gear grinding. I’d like to fight the new bosses but playing the same content over and over to get the gear just to fight them doesn’t interest me. Especially since that content is just the base game missions. Almost nothing new was added in the DLC. A few missions you have to unlock and the boss fights. I do like the combat of this game more than Nioh because it has an actual parry system. But I can’t stand the gear system of these games and having to grind it is nothing but a chore for me.

DLCs for Nioh 2 were tough, but very fair. The only issue was that the initial hurdle from the end of the base game to that first dlc was pretty large because of the level gap. Once you start getting the higher level gear and such, it's fine. But damn does the dlc for this game sound jarring af. Whenever this comes to Steam, I'll just play base game.

Due to the Fact there is often a relative large Releasewindow between Base Game and first DLC it makes sense. Because also for Nioh most ppl who played the Game on Release were already in NG+ when the first DLC launched so usually these players already have way better Gear from the NG+. I totally can agree that if you play the game later with all DLCs available the jump between Base Game and first DLC is often really high.

I have played SoP base game and Wo Long. I have not played Nioh or Nioh 2. My issue is the way they execute these games is they are always a skill game first and try to be a gear/build game after. That means you need skill in the beginning and then at the end you spend a few seconds casting buffs and then murder everything before your buffs run out. I don't see the middle ground ever. I enjoyed SoP more than I have enjoyed my time with Wo Long that is for sure. Team Ninja just needs to make an action game with no loot or lvls.
@TheCyclicGamer Жыл бұрын
It actually makes sense why these games are skill game first before being gear/build game after, because your gear/build game will not matter if you are not skilled at the game first. Get good at the combat first before you get good at the builds, because your builds rely on you being good at the combat. A middle ground might create a difficulty spike that would put off the player, like if halfway into SoP's campaign, it suddenly switched to Chaos mode when you are not that prepared for that mode yet. Also, considering that in games like this, your starting gear levels are low (Which is relative to how potent the special effects of said gear are) and in the case of SoP, you don't have all the main jobs unlocked until right after you beat the main campaign, trying to create a complex build before hand is pointless.

It's a classic way of burning out most players (in any game). Having a gradual difficulty curve is perfectly fine but having to constantly switch between "I'm unkillable now plus most of the enemies are fodder yet still drop S tier loot" to "Almost everything one-shots me while most of the loot is basically the same as would've got on extra mode" is pretty jarring tbh.

Nioh 1 dlcs were not balanced at all if you did base game dlc 1 the game thought you was in new game plus and vice versa for dlc2 and 3 (ng++ for dlc and ng+++ for dlc 3) also most were human bosses in 1 and fighting them on higher difficultys basically came down to spamming lw and just running away (they had almost always super armour) hence why nioh 2 bearly has any
@sadnessdiplomacy1985 Жыл бұрын
it was added because FF players can't play action game considering recent events, the DLCs are fine, most normal enemies in nioh can 1-2 tap you, have you played nioh ? like legit even nioh 2, normal enemies can 1-2 tap you and grabs and unblockables will always oneshot, that's how nioh is balanced except if you went full tank, the problem is that he wanted to braindead the game then the game told him to get a build, he didn't want to do it when DLC2 literally had an NPC that lets you massively customize your gear so you don't have to grind, also you don't even need a build to complete the game, you can slap on Sentinel and straight up facetank most monsters/bosses up until you finish the final dlc, the damage/health of monsters start scaling massively from floor 50 onward which you don't need to touch

Extra mode actually punishes you for using it by giving you gear with extremely low job affinity percentages and lowering your mission rewards, so I wouldn't recommend it. Also you can't get to gear level 500 on Chaos mode, only on Gilgamesh and Lufenia difficulty. Judging by what you said in the end, you definitely missed out on a lot of the features the game gives you once Chaos mode is unlocked, like the job limit releases which allow to level up all your jobs from the initial level 30 to level 300 once you get them all, which is extremely necessary as you earn master points that you can use to assign customizable stats to your job separate from your gear, and the subclasses which gives your job's abilities new functions.

So before I watch the video I write this and won't change it even if I'm proven wrong during the video. I go from your disappointment and not enjoying the DLC on stream from 3 points of view. 1st. Games fault. The devs stretched the content thin to get long time engagement and padding for not really much new content in DLC 1(not counting 2 and 3 as I don't yet know if you ever bothered to play again). 2 Audience fault. They pressured you into just b lining the story through all the DLC. Which is hardly doable with just basic gear and no deeper understanding of the gear affinities and how to make your own build work. 3 Your own inexperience with the gear system. If you put your gear together with a bit of checking just like in Monster Hunter, you can build a gearset for your favorite class with relative ease and bosses that took 5 to 10 minutes go down in 1 hit of your basic weapon attack. Some people in the chat were either willing to carry you through it all or if you asked about which gear you'd want, they'd gladly help you out. Sneaky 4th reason. Your friend cowboy kinda scoured the DLC before you ever played the game. He told you to stream the game but he could have said that it's no shame in getting helped by others. Now I said my piece, watch the video and wish everyone who reads this a good evening.

This! You're not suppose to count on extra mode, as you progress through the rift it becomes unavailable starting from 21+, and how are you going to deal with that? Personally soul shield timing for mp and punish + a decent build is what carried me through my journey, gear levels doesn't matter, not until rift 30+ because how miniscule the stats that the gear provides anyway, it will start to matter on higher tier rift because higher level gear gives you better skill sets, not because of the stats I have to disagree with ruri here, the knight is not the "tank" class, 400%paladin/400%dark knight is the real damage sponge Even then on higher tier of the rift i dont see anyone running tank builds anymore, most of them runs pugilists and breakers with their kill or be killed builds
