I would watch a spinoff of that. Just them hanging out, no special effects or anything. If they wrote a script for that and filmed a bunch of episodes of that for fans to watch, I'd be right there to check it out.

Yuuup. The biggest dick from season 1 (apart from the forgettable freckled cunt) was Steve Harrington, only to be the most adorable and role model-like character of the second season. Once he Barry Bonds'd the demegorgon with the bat full of nails in season 1's last episode, he became the best character EVER.

Yes, thank you, exactly. And episode 7 was absolutely pivotal in that arc, which is why I cannot understand why people don't appreciate that. Besides being crucial for the further development of her powers, of course. How can you remove that from the story? I loved that episode. Mind you, I loved all the episodes, so no great change there....

I swear, if I had the means, I would've hired Jon Bailey to do a voice over "FROM THE DIRECTOR of one of the most beloved animated films of the 21st Century 'Finding Nemo', Andrew Stranton is back, with..." and then just show that.... DISTURBING LOOP along with Will seizing out at the end of 205, and Jon'd be all "Oh god..." Seriously, that moment with the loop was just horrifying. I think what creeped me out the most was when Terry was being hauled away from the rainbow room, and she just yells out "NOooooooooooooooooooo she's my daughter!" Just the way she yells that, I felt my heart sink to my stomach, and it felt too real.

I don’t think Episode 7 was entirely “pointless”. Could it have been written better? Yeah, sure. It was just the writer’s way to explore and build 11's story arc… To help her to connect with her abilities and a way to help her find more confidence rather than being that innocent kid we saw during Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2. All of that character development finally paid off at the final episode when she took it upon herself to use her powers to close the Gate. Also, I guess when the writers created that episode, they saw it as an opportunity to not only explore 11’s character arc… but to set up a potential story-line for Season 3. Obviously the Shadow Monster is going to make a comeback and I guess Hopper and the main cast will probably need some help to defeat it by recruiting the rest of the missing 10 children. I guess they decided to introduce that idea of the 10 other enhanced people in season 2 so everything won’t feel so forced or cliche when Season 3 hits. But I could be entirely wrong with that theory… who knows…

Was not filler, and Brenner is confirmed to be alive. Only part of that was Kali's illusion. That guy had no reason to lie whatsoever. It was not filler, and Kali and the symbol of 8 all relate to time too. Mama is stuck in a time loop. There is a much bigger story being told here.
@breyannarollins9120
@breyannarollins9120 6 жыл бұрын
When you said “when everything won’t seem forced” is a go huge thing about shows I feel like. The episode makes a lot more sense now because I think people don’t give enough credit to the pacing of a movie or show. It’s the thing that can either engage a persons interest, or make them loose it really quickly and lose the main points made in certain episodes. Forcing the plot of season three by taking away step 7 into season three would confuse lots of fans I think. You make good points 😊👍🏻
@imarock8763
@imarock8763 6 жыл бұрын
I think if they built more on 8 then that episode wouldve been easier to tolerate not only that but it wouldve been possible to actually love the episode..at first glance you assume 8 and her gang are just theives but no they straight up kill poeple wich i found a little unnerving. it didnt fit well with the character i feel the actress mightve not been able to actually portray how they thought it couldve been portrayed..it didnt stick well with her. i feel if they chose someone else for the role of 8 it couldve been better but i cant completely blame the actress. the writing does play a big part on how we perceive her character. It just didnt fit is all i can say really.

Season 1 was definitely better. It was more tightly paced and felt consistent throughout. Season 2 had some pacing issues, especially thanks to episode 7, which I didn't hate like a lot people did but it was thrown in after a great cliffhanger of episode 6 and completely broke the pacing. Would have been better if they spread out that episode's story in chunks and layered it over 2-3 episodes, along with other arcs. Still, Stranger Things 2 was a great watch, and can't wait for season 3 now. Also, Steve and Dustin + Steve and the Kids moments were THE BEST!
@Spartan_1_17
@Spartan_1_17 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Mike and Eleven, especially Mike were on the backburner as compared to last season. BUT I feel like they did that so other characters can get more time in the light and since they were separated and all. Plus, they'll probably be on the forefront again next season since they'll be together again (hopefully). I will say that it wasn't non-relevant to the plot, it just felt like it didn't have a greater impact. And I agree that the last two episodes were amazing, and probably my favorite of the series so far too.
@Spartan_1_17
@Spartan_1_17 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get what you mean, character relevant but not main plot relevant, I see that now. I was lowkey hoping that instead of the anger thing, she somehow manages to channel the pleasant/beautiful memories she has to get an even greater effect, kinda like Magento in First Class. Maybe her powers don't work like that, or maybe we might get to see that in season 3. And definitely, Lucas greatly benefited. Became much more likable. After all the positive response for what they did with Steve, we will get a good chunk of him in Season 3 as well I believe. Also, I love that, Mike and Eleven watching Back to the Future as a date, WOULD BE REALLY AWESOME! Gonna be a really annoying wait for season 3. :/

watertommyz well idk why max would beat her step father..100% billy's dad isnt even mean to max i guarantee it.. billys just being a docuhe becuase he doesnt want a new mom and step sister. it happens all the time with divorces..its hinted at several times that billy intimidates and hurts max.. It doesnt have to be physically but it could be emotionally. he brakes her things aka her long board..and you wanna say thats their fathers fualt? No..granted his father is a no nonsense type of guy a controle freak and kinda a Douche..he wants their family to be happy and perfect but he knows Damn well that billy hates both of the women. The only bad thing about his father is that hes forcing billy to be nice when obviously billy doesnt want to be nice. Does that mean his father is bad? We cant tell yet we know hes very physical but he has not displayed that he is physical with the women so i wouldnt make him the bad guy yet. Not yet atleast..but dont make billy the victim either he could be alot more cooperative but hes really not..

Episode 7 to me felt like the part in Empire Strikes Back where Luke had to go find Yoda on Dagobah. He learned more about his powers while learning of the larger universe around him, then eventually had to give it up because his friends are his family and they were all in danger. I did think it felt tonally off from the rest of the show, but that's how I look at it.

I agree with Jeremy here, and I think the differences between season one and two all come down to the success of the show. In season one, no one knew if it would get a second season, or if it would even succeed, so they wrote a really tight, well-paced story that mostly finished by the end. Now since they know they're getting two, three, four seasons and possibly on, there's more room and more episodes at their disposal to tell the story. Season two definitely operates on a different, longer type of story structure in comparison to season one. Whether this new structure is bad or good comes down to personal preference, I think.

Season 1 is sooooo much better. My main issue with season 2 is the demidogs. Don't get me wrong, they were creepy, and I love how they introduced them. My issue is the demigorgon seemed to be more threatening and more of an issue than the army of dogs. Which in all actuality, an army like that should have been 10x worse. Season 1 people were disappearing, will was in a danger, this creature was loose in town killing people! Season 2 was more like, there are tunnels underground, there are weird dogs running around a localized facility, and the only real consequence was Bob. It never got to the level like the school scene in season 1.

What a weird piece of criticism. You could just as easily turn it around, and say that Hopper's arch only existed to serve Eleven's arch. Their arcs compliment each other, which is why putting them together this year was a stroke of genius.
@lolasnormandy
@lolasnormandy 6 жыл бұрын
I Should Probably Get A Job I couldn't agree more. Eleven served Hopper's character with the whole father/daughter arc, her reminding him of Sarah and wanting to protect her, and by the end also admiting his mistakes and wanting to a better parent for her, which gives his character ample room to grow in season 3. Hopper served Eleven's arc with the whole "teenage rebellion" trope we see so much in coming of age stories (her whole arc was a coming of age story, let's be honest), her making her own choices while experiencing the consequences of said choices, her wanting to find her place (home) in the world, which is necessary when she realizes her place and home was always with Hop and Mike and the rest of the party.

i decided to binge watch both seasons for the first time this week. watching each season right after each other gave me some perspective: everything season 1 did right, season 2 did wrong. and season 2 was trash. every major character is ruined for no reason. the supernatural villain is bigger but is obtuse and vague. the human villains basically don't exist in season 2, and they waste multiple hours on filler that leads nowhere. eleven is squandered. she was obviously the most interesting and effective character in season one, and here she sits in a cabin eating eggos and being pouty for 5 hours. hopper goes from being an awesomely effective action hero cop who cared about the residents in his town to a shitty dad who uses the literal oldest trope of all time "i lied to you so i could protect you" which always backfires. dustin goes from the creative problem solver with good comedic timing to jealous, lying, self-absorbed idiot who actively undermines the success of his friends. mike goes from the party leader who is the beacon for eleven to connect with, to a jealous, raging, useless character who sits around with will doing nothing. this season was rushed, it was less original than the first, it was more drawn out and had way worse pacing. they tried to retread what worked while simultaneously making everything bigger, which doesn't work. there aren't even any good flashback triggers. the upside down just bleeds into hawkins now so the characters can lazily go back and forth at will instead of it being an intense and terrifying process. i hope for their sake, they take more time to write season 3.

I feel this whole season was more like a bridge to season 3. Eleven needed to learn that she can fuel her power, this time with rage. What I mean is that we'll likely see more of Eleven and her powers next season and I'm sure we'll see more of Kali too. The existence of Kali and the fact that her ability was completely different means all the subjects might have had different abilities so future seasons can revolve around that too.

At the very least all the kids become meaningless (excluding Will), but really everyone because no one in Hawkins is even close to having the means to deal with what's in the upside down. The only options for season 2 were bring back Eleven or bring in another one of the Hawkins Lab subjects to take her place.
@chriscruz23
@chriscruz23 6 жыл бұрын
I think your concern with the building up of season 2 has more to do with the novelty you experienced from season 1. Personally, I thought the pacing of this season was nearly perfect. In this season we now know and understand the implications associated with the link between the upside down and our world. The pacing allows us to feel whats happening at the same rate that the "virus" is spreading through will (and hawkins for that matter). Season one is the infection and exposure which is going to be a bit more of a bang, but with season 2 it's more about the progression of evil. If the pacing of this season was any faster then it would have done the story a disservice.

Season 2 was a genuine Sequel. And for me, most sequels are subpar remixes of the originals. It was entertaining, but there was nothing particularly creative about it, with the exception of continuing Steve's character arc the way they did. It wasn't bad, it was just your standard run of the mill sequel.

For creators, the earlier the better. Any later and Jeremy risks getting less views as many folks have already binged it all, watched reviews, and moved on. So, in essence, being early, or first, means more notoriety, a potentially larger audience and chance to grow your brand, and in this case could potentially influence new viewers to the show or film he is reviewing earlier. Now you have been equipped with a small amount of understanding.

From someone who just watched S1 and S2 for the first time together, S2 was nowhere near as good as S1. There was barely any intrigue especially with The Upside Down. The creepy feeling of the place and deadliness of the Demogorgon was lacking with the tunnels (crop failure, oh no) or the demodog fodder. Dustin managing to befriend one made it cliqued and took away a lot of what was at stake. Bob's death was obvious and had no weight. There were so many shots and scenes which did the silly "almost scare/reveal but nah, its just some person or fucking scarecrow that startled a character"

In Season 3, they need another major character death. Everyone loves all the characters so it would be hard to kill anyone off. The only person I'm thinking of is Billy. Although I like his character, in Season 3, he should get even more crazy and mental. Eventually attempting to kill someone. Similar to what he did with Steve if Max didn't stop him. However in Season 3, Max should be forced to kill Billy to save a member of the group that he's attempting to kill. It will definitely create that shock factor. Just an idea....

I honestly felt Eleven's story arc was to expand HER character, not Hopper's character. She spent her entire life thus far having people tell her what to do and establish what her home is... This was her opportunity to make that decision for herself. In the end, she chose to be with her family and be the hero, instead of the villain. She made her own decisions in life, which is what they were getting at when she made the decision to leave the cabin.

I don't think Eleven was there just to expand Hopper's arc; she had a whole separate arc of her own where she's trying to find her identity and place of belonging by finding her mother and her "sister" in addition to Hopper as her adoptive father. Although her arc starts late into the season, it's really about her loneliness and lack of place of belonging in the world, and that is quite distinct from Hopper's arc.

Yeah, I totally agree on that one. As much as I love Eleven, if she died in the fight with the demogorgon, Mike's arc would be improved and his "I don't want another girl in the team" would be more worthwhile to follow as a grieving process. Eleven was sidetracked in the season and Mike got the short end of the stick in terms of writing.
