It's sad but not surprising that all the reasons listed in favor of stancy are solely about Steve and his arc. It's typical of Steve fans to see Nancy just as a prize, an object, that Steve should get back because he changed. Nancy is a main character in her own right, who has been more important than Steve from the very beginning and with an arc that has been consistent over the course of the series, unlike Steve's whose writing is heavily influenced by fanservice. It makes no sense for her story to end with her agreeing to birth Steve's excessive number of children and settle for the white picket fence life she didn't want. And Steve's supposedly great arc would be more meaningful if he learned that you don't change because you get a reward in the end (and women aren't trophies).

This! You articulated it perfectly. And Steve is one of my favorite characters. But I hated that they even brought this back into play in Season 4. It felt like a backslide for both of them. If they expanded on it whatsoever in Season 3 I might feel differently, but they dropped the thread. I was genuinely like, “I thought we were done with this love triangle years ago.” They had their best growth apart. Nancy had to learn who she was deep down, and she was better able to do that with Jonathan than Steve. Steve had to learn to find his own strength and motivation outside of trying to “earn” Nancy. I understand how it can be good for people to learn and grow while apart, and reunite down the line. But Season 1 and 2 went out of their ways to explore how comfortable she felt being herself with Jonathan. At this point, it feels like her leaving him would look like she only used him to build herself back up. Not saying she would consciously feel that way, but it’s just turning Jonathan into a catalyst in someone else’s character arc instead of having his own.

@@demobat-r3m thank god there is some fans that actually use their brain about this whole thing, the bias for Steve is getting a little out of hand because it’s starting to make people forget that Nancy is her own character who picked Johnathan because he was there for her in all the ways that Steve wasn’t, Hell Johnathan in his own way even shows how much he loves her by not making her feel tied down to him, which is honestly very sweet of him. Granted he should tell her about college but i understand why he hasn’t . He is worried about her giving up her dream school just to stay with him.

I love Steve and Nancy as individual characters but I don’t think they are a good couple. I mean all of the reasons you gave for the other endgame couples being endgame, you could say the same thing about Jancy. If anything, Jancy have had the most screen time and development together out of all of the couples apart from Jopper and Mileven. Stancy just haven’t had enough development together to convince me that they are a good couple. Most of their scenes are either fighting or flirting, which sounds like a fling instead of a strong long term relationship. I think people are just reigniting Stsncy because Jonathan fell off in S4, but prior to S4 no one was really passionate about Stancy getting back together. Everyone was ok with Jancy. If Jonathan has an epic resurgence in S5 then everyone will change their mind. Watch.

Heyy! okay honestly I’m really proud of this essay I wrote on the full video of this so I’m just gonna copy and paste it here in case it changes anyone’s mind! Great video! I agree with most of your opinions. However, I will say a lot of people who like mileven will say that they have been building it up since the beginning. Personally I disagree with this. In my personal opinion they didn’t really build anything. Let me explain. They were already together in the season one finally, meaning all the build up to their relationship was before this. In my understanding they were still “together” in season 2 since they both still clearly loved each other. Flash forward to season 3. They were obviously together at the beginning. They break up in the 2nd episode. (Which I will say did not seem very sad.) anyway, an important scene I’m talking about is what happens in the finale. At the end of the episode, El kisses mike. Now something I think is interesting is his reaction. When el kisses him, he has his eyes open. After she pulls away, we get a shot of him lingering for a few seconds. This confirms that we were meant to pay attention to his reaction. As we get the shot of his reaction in my opinion he looks like he has a realization. I also just rewatched it while writing this and I just noticed that mike shakes his head before el turns around. I will also note that the song that plays is ‘The First I love You’ I just think it’s weird every word but love is capitalized. After rewatching, (this could be irrelevant) this all happened in front of an open closet. I highly suggest that you rewatch this scene with this perspective and no bias. After this, they include a scene of mike hugging his mom. He looks like he is not sad, but more scared and shocked. SEASON FOUR: okay the first thing I can think of is when mike and will are arguing in rink o mania mike says “we’re friends, WERE FRIENDS” like will meant anything by it. I think he was trying to convince himself. When they get home and el and mike have their big argument there’s not much to say here besides, this proves my point that they were not building up mileven, it hit its peak in season 1/2 and they were not building it up, they were derailing it. Anyway, the next thing that sticks out is the way mike and will looked away from each other after there talk. This is one of the most COMMON romantic tropes out there. I will also point out that the “cool, cool” is a parallel to s1 mileven . This shows the love passing over. The same way steve and Nancy had the “is it too tight?” Moment Jonathan sand Nancy had in season 1. Next, when their burying the dead body, mike does a triple take of will. The painting scene is important but, it doesn’t actually prove anything on mikes side . So we’re gonna skip that bc this is already to long . We see later that Dustin says “ mike was complaining about the phone” when we know he doesn’t use that to communicate with el, just will. So he did want to reach out. The scene where mike el and will reunite parallels robin and Vickie. Mike bring Vickie el being Vickie’s boyfriend and will bring robin. We find out later that Vickie and her bf break up. When mike confesses his love for el, he does it after will tells him to. It’s not actually the thing that helps her pull through. Maybe bc she knows he’s lying(?) anyway she ignores him after showing they’re not on good terms. At the end shot, mike and will stand together. And the same flowers mike gave el at the airport are wilted. That’s the end! There is more I would like to say, but I’m tired I suggest you look at the scenes I’ve talked about to see if you agree, but I still respect you if you ship mileven! I also js dk what the point of will having an unrequited crush on mike would be. In conclusion, this is why I think mileven will not be endgame :)

Great job on this I agree! If you look at the way Mike looks at Will you can tell that it is not one sided and in the end of season 3 Mike definitely seems like he discovered something about himself. Now Mike and El ate definitely not in a healthy relationship in season 4 and his whole speech to El contradicts other parts of the show, like his speech to Will in season 2 talking about how meeting him in kindergarten and then becoming friends was the best decision of his life. And we’ve all seen how much Mike cares about Will so there’s no way his “life started” the day his best friend went missing. And one more point is that the song playing during Mike and Wills argument at the roller rink is called In The Closet and the song playing during Mikes speech to El is called Your The Heart, a direct quotation from Wills speech to Mike. I’m not saying that Mike has no feeling for El but he definitely seems bisexual and I think he has stronger feelings for Will.

See I understood Mileven a lot in the first two seasons because it was like young love, but since like the beginning of season three, I don't feel like the spark is there. I mean what you said about Jonathan and Nancy lying to each other should also go for Mike and El, because as we saw in the first few eps of season 4 with the bullies and stuff, they don't fully trust one another with personal issues. Unlike Lumax and Jopper, they don't solve their problems well ( ex. the argument after the roller rink when they ended up shutting each other out) and I believe some of that comes from emotional maturity. While they are the same age, El's emotional and mental growth was stunted because of the lab, so she didn't fully understand the relationship she had with Mike in the earlier seasons. She saw the more mature relationships around her and that's why their relationship from s2 to s3 went from 0 to 100 in terms of seriousness. Another thing is Mike's problem with saying I love you, which might partially come from his home environment (parent's relationship), but also because they are young! They shouldn't have to say I love you to each other to know that their relationship works, and I feel the pressure from El might also come from the emotional maturity I mentioned earlier. Also I think another problem with this relationship is Mike's own personal problems. We all know Mike was a little turd in s3 and most of s4, which is when El needed him the most, so some of her distrust might stem from that. All in all, in terms of relationships, I believe they were a cute couple once, but I really want El to not have to rely on a relationship in this final season. I do love both these chracters with all my heart, and I'm not trying to invalidate this ship, this is just my personal opinion.

i dont really understand the comparison with lumax and mileven and claiming mileven doesn't solve their problems well because "they shut each other out". is that not what max did to lucas at the beginning of s4? mike and el didn't have the time to fully talk out their problems like lucas and max did because lumax were together the whole season and mileven was separated. this isn't a matter of not trusting one another, it's a matter of one's own personal struggles/issues getting the best of them. it's why max shut lucas and everybody else out. and el is not "emotionally mature" but neither is mike. cause they are both kids. the same reason why lumax in s3 did not have emotional maturity either, were breaking up 5 times, and constantly bickered. el deserves to rely on others after everything shes gone through. her whole arc is about accepting others into her life and leaning on them for physical and emotional support. not handling everything on her own. el is very much her own person, even when she is with mike. she was upset about him not saying ily because she was going through such a hard patch that she really needed those words of affirmation to give her strength. its why her mom saying "ily" gave her the strength to overpower 001 and why mike saying it gave her the strength to overpower vecna. love is very important to a girl who grew up never feeling it.

@@femcults i know that but what i meant when i said she shouldn't have to rely on a relationship is that she shouldn't need romantic relationships, as i do believe she needs to rely on others, but maybe romance isn't the only way to do that. i also agree with you on mike also not being emotionally mature, because as i also said they are young/kids. i also understand what you said about love being important to el, but like i said, it doesn't have to be romantic, it can be through friendship and familial love instead. and i also totally understand your lumax argument,but the fallout/ reason of their comparative disagreements are very different, and have vastly different consequences, although, like you said, the fact that mike and eleven were apart for most of s4 might have contributed. another thing though, i do think (in my personal opinion) that at the beginning of s3 el wasn't her own person without mike, because of their emotional attachment, and the main reason of el and max's arc was to help el become herself again, which was critical to the following plot, and i feel they can expand on that even more in s5. like i said befor though, this is my personal opinion, and i don't mean to offend anyone.

Tbh personally I think byler should go on the could be good together bit. I watch a range of different tv shows and I’m also an actress myself and many lgbtq couples (and just heterosexual couples in general) r seen as 1 sided at first before actually getting to see the other character’s perspective and so far we’ve mostly seen wills perspective and tiny snippets of mikes but not enough to actually understand what’s going thru his head and I hope and wish we can see his perspective in s5. We also have to factor in it’s the 80’s and ppl weren’t as open to the idea of supporting lgbtq than ppl r today. And this isn’t bc I’m biased and I ship byler, I also ship mileven equally and I believe they both have a chance of being endgame.

No. Sorry but Steve and Nancy would not be happy together. They want different things from life. Steve wants nothing more than home and family. Nancy wants career and adventure. She has even said that living a life like her mother would be her biggest nightmare. She doesn't want children. If she compromised this for Steve she would eventually resent him and any kids they had. Steve would be unhappy too. They would destroy one another. Better for them to be friends and let their high school relationship remain a thing of the past. They both deserve better. Steve deserves a woman who wants to have his babies and travel in the RV. Nancy deserves the job where she can run off at the drop of a hat to follow the news story. Jonathan is so immerced in his family. He would not be able to leave Joyce and Will. Not really. He is too responsible to do that. It was the main reason he never applied to Emerson to attend with Nancy. Im not sure he could even walk away from them if Hopper and Joyce got together and married. He would feel like he needed to stay close to them. I think in the end, Nancy will be single but remain friends with both Jonathan and Steve. They are all trauma bonded afterr all.

ran to the comments cause i knew it was going to be war 💀 this was a brave video to put out lol anyways, you mentioned mileven being set up since s1- but you could argue jancy had also been set up since s1 in a similar way. i do personally think jancy or single nancy is endgame, but s4 was just… weird, and the tension with steve leads me to believe hes bones in s5. then mileven being endgame doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me, given that mikes whole speech in s4 to her, the “resolution” to their conflict, was based off of wills own veiled confession. and wills lie has yet to be resolved. the last shot of s4 also looks like some hefty foreshadowing. jancy, byler, jopper, then el standing by herself holding a dead bouquet of flowers- aka the same flowers mike had brought her s4e2. theres more i could say but i really dont need to put more of an essay out there. i enjoy ur content dude keep doing what ur doing 🙏

I’m sorry but I know enough about human behavior to know that whatever problems that Steve and Nancy had will always be a recurring issue. Steve being a good person now doesn’t change that Nancy doesn’t love him because in case people forget their relationship ended in season two after he had already redeemed himself, and if you watch her reaction to his confession in season 4 she sounds like she’s going to let him down easy before they get interrupted by Robin. Now her and Johnathan could break up certainly but I think he allows Nancy to be independent in a way that Steve doesn’t and I don’t think she shares Steve’s dream of having a big family either.

Mike and El are not really endgame for me. In terms of the show, they probably are (whether it be a tragic or happy ending). It's just there isn't a spark between them. I think there was one in season 1, but by the way their relationship has been written so far a lot of their dialogue does not feel emotionally true and their actions towards one another lacks romantic gestures. This is insane cause they could parallel Scott and Jean Grey in terms of being a power couple. I don't necessarily see them getting with anyone else this late in season five but it would be cool to see them end off as platonic friends. Steve and Nancy I feel a spark between them; however, they have two very different goals in life (independent career versus domestic family) that I don't think a relationship between them would last (as I feel the same with Mileven who also have different goals).

Slight essay coming lol Great video! I agree with most of your opinions. However, I will say a lot of people who like mileven will say that they have been building it up since the beginning. Personally I disagree with this. In my personal opinion they didn’t really build anything. Let me explain. They were already together in the season one finally, meaning all the build up to their relationship was before this. In my understanding they were still “together” in season 2 since they both still clearly loved each other. Flash forward to season 3. They were obviously together at the beginning. They break up in the 2nd episode. (Which I will say did not seem very sad.) anyway, an important scene I’m talking about is what happens in the finale. At the end of the episode, El kisses mike. Now something I think is interesting is his reaction. When el kisses him, he has his eyes open. After she pulls away, we get a shot of him lingering for a few seconds. This confirms that we were meant to pay attention to his reaction. As we get the shot of his reaction in my opinion he looks like he has a realization. I also just rewatched it while writing this and I just noticed that mike shakes his head before el turns around. I will also note that the song that plays is ‘The First I love You’ I just think it’s weird every word but love is capitalized. After rewatching, (this could be irrelevant) this all happened in front of an open closet. I highly suggest that you rewatch this scene with this perspective and no bias. After this, they include a scene of mike hugging his mom. He looks like he is not sad, but more scared and shocked. SEASON FOUR: okay the first thing I can think of is when mike and will are arguing in rink o mania mike says “we’re friends, WERE FRIENDS” like will meant anything by it. I think he was trying to convince himself. When they get home and el and mike have their big argument there’s not much to say here besides, this proves my point that they were not building up mileven, it hit its peak in season 1/2 and they were not building it up, they were derailing it. Anyway, the next thing that sticks out is the way mike and will looked away from each other after there talk. This is one of the most COMMON romantic tropes out there. I will also point out that the “cool, cool” is a parallel to s1 mileven . This shows the love passing over. The same way steve and Nancy had the “is it too tight?” Moment Jonathan sand Nancy had in season 1. Next, when their burying the dead body, mike does a triple take of will. The painting scene is important but, it doesn’t actually prove anything on mikes side . So we’re gonna skip that bc this is already to long . We see later that Dustin says “ mike was complaining about the phone” when we know he doesn’t use that to communicate with el, just will. So he did want to reach out. The scene where mike el and will reunite parallels robin and Vickie. Mike bring Vickie el being Vickie’s boyfriend and will bring robin. We find out later that Vickie and her bf break up. When mike confesses his love for el, he does it after will tells him to. It’s not actually the thing that helps her pull through. Maybe bc she knows he’s lying(?) anyway she ignores him after showing they’re not on good terms. At the end shot, mike and will stand together. And the same flowers mike gave el at the airport are wilted. That’s the end! There is more I would like to say, but I’m tired I suggest you look at the scenes I’ve talked about to see if you agree, but I still respect you if you ship mileven! I also js dk what the point of will having an unrequited crush on mike would be. In conclusion, this is why I think mileven will not be endgame :)
