Good vid, Bob. Been playing Strat for 40 years...mostly baseball, but dive into football every now and again. You explained things very well. Without looking at rule book, I believe run results in ( ) is the number you use in BASIC game. I remember a long time ago a player with his LG not in parentheses and being disappointed in the result and realizing the only way he would achieve his LG is off the LONG GAIN chart, using the BASIC max LONG GAIN rule

For timing, I always moved it two places for a running play and complete pass, and one space for a incomplete pass. Three and two would make it go quicker, but after you play it a few times, you can play a game pretty quick with stats. Stra o Matic is great, whatever sport you play!

I actually move two spaces for all offensive plays (including incomplete passes), and zero spaces for kickoffs, punts and field goals. That comes out to 120 plays per game. Throw in timeouts or, as an option, one space (or 15 seconds) for incomplete passes with 2:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter will give you a few more plays...all within the average number of plays for an NFL game (anywhere from 120 - 135 or so). Either way Stratomatic football is a great game!

It seems it takes two-three hours to play a solitaire game. Anyone else have this problem.

I don't keep stats (only scoring plays) and I can complete a game in a little less than an hour.

Two places for a run or completed pass. One for an incomplete pass or completedvpass off offensive card. Also one for an end run off the offensive card.

I found that when playing this game the passing % were lower than it should have been 45 to 55% when the pct was in the mid 60s in the real season

Some less mobile QBs will not have an end run section, it will simply read "Do not select this play". I've seen a couple QBs (Can't remember off the top of my head) that have "Will not occur" in the must run section...

I currently play a super advanced H2H league and am interested in playing solo. I was wondering how you create the team down and distance defensive play calls. I’ve been scouring the internet for days looking for this info with no luck!

To be honest, I just make my own chart from estimating. We're in a passing climate, so I estimate the D would look for a pass on 1st and 10 with a roll of 1-11 on a d20 and the run 12-20. Then, I just make them look pass increasingly more with more yards to get and later downs and less for the pass in very short yardage situations. It's all just my estimates, though. Which are probably no better than anyone else's estimates.

You use a homemade chart and 20 sided die to determine the defense. Now, how would you do it without your homemade chart? I wish I could read the instructions before buying this game.

you can order the instructions, also I think there are some different information on board game geek site. The instructions walk you thru all three versions of the game also. FAcebook is also a resource try STRAT-O-MATIC FOOTBALL FANS ITS LOADED WITH GOOD GUYS WHO WILL GIVE YOU INFORMATION.

That time clock board comes with the Strat-O-Matic football game if you order an entire game with all game parts. I ordered the board through Inked Gaming. Just google them to find their website. Then you can upload any image to their website (that you find on the internet) and order a game mat of that image. They're like $27 or $28.

@@seansanchez1245 On Inked Gaming? You have to send them your own image...that's what I did with the football field. I got the image off the internet, saved it to my computer and then uploaded it to Inked Gaming's website when I ordered it.

It just seems like you have to refer to too many reference cards just for a single play. That can get boring pretty quick. Great vid, however.
