Thank you for these great videos! Even 7 years later I still refer to them when I need a refresher

I've been playing Strat sports sims since 1967. Along the way I've tried every game that's been on the market to see how they stacked up to SOM. All I can tell you is if your playing another sports sim board game that's NOT Stat-O-Matic then your cheating yourself. Lots of good games out there, and we are very fortunate for that, but no other game captures the realism of the NBA, NFL, MLB, or NHL like Strat.

Oscar Robinson .....I agree Oscar. There are only 2 sports sim games on the market. Stratomatic and.....well there’s only one....stratomatic

Well said and I have been playing SOM since 1981. I originally started playing APBA in 1972 and although they do a very good job with their product; SOM is the most realistic, complex and sophisticated board game on the market. At the age of 59, I Strat everyday (Baseball, Hockey, Football, and Basketball). Thank You so much SOM!

Quality endures. 40+ years playing Strat-o-matic Hockey...We like to colour code & highlight to make it much faster to find the results on cards and for faster line changes and add special teams designations to top of each player cards (IN PENCIL!!!)..PP1 PP2 Pk1 Pk2. Sure does teach you a lot about the game and how to coach from the bench.

The Strat-O-Matic advanced hockey board game is so much fun it's almost a crime against other game companies.

Strat Hockey and Basketball were incredible back in the 80s but I never could get into the football and baseball I didnt give a long enough look. I haven't played since 98 but still play vintage sports seasons on my ps5 as NBA 2k23 brought back something called NBA era for Bird, Magic and Jordan erased

You need to make a video explaining the Super Advanced Power Play timing

Nice job! Do you plan to make a super advanced rules video too?
@DaveGardnervideos5 жыл бұрын
I just started adding some Advanced rules into my game.
@daves12495 жыл бұрын
You'll find it hard to go back to the basic rule set once you get the hang of the advanced rules, they really round out the game.
@DaveGardnervideos5 жыл бұрын
@@daves1249 I'm not using them all yet, but the ones I'm using is making the game more fun.

Hi Dave.....thank you again for the great vids. Like I said I’ve have SOM hockey for awhile now (98-99 season). I don’t know if it’s me but for all of their games I get lost sometimes trying to decipher SOM’s instructions. Your vids are spot on and your explanations are perfect. Since learning how to play this from your vids I’ve recently purchased the 75/76, 77/78. I prefer the vintage seasons over the current seasons. One more question. Do you have a vid just explaining advanced/super advanced power plays? Power plays are still a little confusing for me. Thanks again Dave for these vids!

Funny you ask I am currently working on a Super advanced video with both styles of power plays. I hope to have it up sometime this month if work, home repair/renos and and life don't interfere to much. I play mostly with the Super Advanced additions now. I find they really add more depth and aren't that hard to implement once you get used to them. I prefer the older seasons as well. Of the seasons I own for Strat 80% predate the 90's all though I had to turn to APBA for my favorite 1990's season 92/93. To my knowledge Strat has never reissued it. I love kicking around some of the original six seasons as well. Hoping to get the newly issued 1951 season set soon. I have the 77/78 to it is a great set.

Dave S ....I really enjoy those mid-late 70s Habs. In all of their sports SOM always seem to hold off re-issuing the most popular seasons. Once again thanks Dave. I’ll be looking out for the power play vid.

When you buy a box, the three blue chart about passing, goalie and super adv. Timing are included? Thanks

Yes, they are also used for the super advanced version.

What if the penalty comes, not as a result of intimidation? It just says penalty on the Defenseman player card. Do you just remove the goalie, bring on the extra skater, then have the player take an outside shot?
@daves12495 жыл бұрын
If it turns up a penalty the defenceman is assesed a 2 minute penalty. It is a delayed penalty until the defencive team gets the puck. You would pull the offences goaltender, replace him with an extra skater, draw action cards reading from the power play section until the offence looses the puck to the defence.
