BTW rule note: in 1985 on a missed FG the ball returned to the line of scrimmage. It was 1994 when the rule was changed to mark the ball at the spot of the missed kick.

Love the comment about in Strat Games, every player’s strengths and weaknesses become evident. Basketball fans should try Strat’s advanced basketball game for the same reason. It might be their best tabletop version of the real thing. The problem I have with APBA is that their games are too abstract in how the rate the same player strengths and weaknesses. My opinion, of course.

APBA use of universal charts and abstraction is part of why I enjoy it; however, you nailed why I dislike it for the same reasons. Lol. SoM defines individual players and that makes one feel like every player and team are unique.

Love this 1985 Card Set. The thicker card stock is a plus also. Also like the fact that almost everything needed to resolve plays comes right off the cards.

"7" is right and "12" is a key.

Nice! Fellow solo Strat football gamer here. Little confused by how you determine Defense guessed right/wrong. You said "7" is right? Not sure I get it as just one die is usually used for this. Btw, I like your speedy playcalling. Sometimes it takes quite a while before I settle on a play lol.

My solo defense play call system is completely random. I roll a second 2d6, if I roll a "7" the defense is right. If not, it is wrong. I use Elementary rules so I do not use Keying or Double Teams. So, the normal single die still dictates the defense's card but the other 2d6 dictates whether the defense is right/wrong on the offense card.

Only problem with Strat is for their older football seasons, you only get so many teams. I wish it was like hockey where they give you a file of the remaining teams to print up. I like that you picked these two substandard teams, I feel this is a good indication of how a game plays when you pick crappy teams and see how it pans out.

Fortunately, both SoMs 1972 and 1985 season sets come with every team. They need to do that for all their new historical season releases.
