This is a unique experience at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. In the geology hall, they have this fake elevator (but with a convincing cab) with the only buttons inside to start the program. Through the "window" (really a TV screen), you're guided by a posed miner named "Rocky," where he takes you over 3 miles down through the Earth where you get to learn about various different sub-terranean geological features. I've always loved this through-out my child-hood experiences and figured I had to get a video of it.

I'm so glad I found this!! It brings back memories of my visit there in 1997/8. I was five years old. Haven't been to this museum since then. I was born in Pittsburgh, but have lived in SoCal since about 1993. I've gotten back there a few times. Most recent trip was in 2010, when I visited the Carnegie Science museum again.

I wished I did more minimal commentary on this video to begin with.

They should continue the video to go through the middle of the Earth and then flip the room upside down as it passes.

@@EWPA14 Maybe even have the room go to another part of the museum where everything is written in Chinese at the end of the trip!

They must have been scared then. That must be how the doors get messed up sometimes.

Yeah I noticed that. The doors aren't even operated in anyway, you just press close to start.

@@EWPA14 I had to manually shut the doors because of people complaining its not as immersive

I didn't think that was possible. I tried to force close them but I had no luck. And besides a staff member could go by & wonder why the doors are closed.

They should put a really strong heater in there to make it even more realistic.

I'm sure quite a few young kids thought it was real. & yeah, I agree about the heater!
