Let's play a series on Strategic Command World War 1, the new grand strategy release from Slitherine Studios and Fury Software. I'll be playing as the Central Powers, as we attempt to re-write the events of WW1 in our favor, with victory over the Triple Entente.

Strategic Command is back, and this time it is bringing you the Great War! From the bloody fields of Flanders to the sweeping advances in the east, the fighting in Italy, the Balkans and Middle East, Strategic Command: World War I covers all the main aspects and theaters of the war.

I also prefer the default map-skin, personally, so I'm glad you changed it back!

I will try out the new units in the next video for a bit, to see if I like those any better. We are likely to end up back at the default units and map after a few videos =)

Though I really like the Blue Max mod but I kept going back to the vanilla default and finally just stayed with it. I try to use the terrain the best way I can and the faded map made those details hard to discern. The BM counters were cool too but those red banners were annoying to me. Overall though the BM mod has a great aesthetic and gives the feel of that old school board game. It is a matter of taste of course! btw taking little slices of the 'Bear' seems the best strategy for now but sooner or later it will be time to hug the damn thing. 🤠 o7

Yeah, we know we have a good thing with the regular map and NATO icons. I may try the BM units for a turn to showcase them.

I was expecting a much larger nm hit from the french losing paris. This is already very similar to replicating the franco-prussian war advances. But it doesn’t seem like the game mechanics will allow capitulation to be as easy. It seems like it will make the player literally capture most of france on the way to the new capital. From what I’ve seen in other lp’s, it is very possible to bait and crush the british navy. Doing it in a straight confrontation won’t end well but the game mechanics....(let’s say) can be taken advantage of since the way naval actions function enable certain tactics. Once their dn are taken out and germany still has theirs (you can track how many units everyone has in the charts), it’s pretty much gg. They can still be pesky because they have a lot of units, but the threat of losing massive amounts of mpp from naval engagement gone wrong vanishes.

I think that below 70% NM, a country's units lose morale as well, so I think this will end up being a huge blow to them. As it should. I don't know enough about the internal state of the French to say whether they would surrender or not, but if WW2 and the Franco-Prussian War are anything to go by, it seems possible.

TortugaPower From what I can gather, nations had become very centralized with a set infrastructure in place that was the life blood of the state. If the capital is lost, pretty much all of that crumbles. This doesn’t necessarily mean the gov entirely capitulates. It would make sense that some would still try to maintain some form of resistance from exile. But operating outside of the original capital means a lot of the existing infrastructure is left behind and new ones have to be brought up to snuff. So afaik there’d be a period of headless chicken-ness until some form of hq is set up elsewhere. Not everyone would be able to partake is this massive relocation, and some heads of state would’ve been captured. Which means there’s no way the country would be able to fight in the same manner it was prior to losing their original capital. But this is just the opinion of a layman who knows very little about actual military and gov. Nevertheless, these conclusions seem logical.

Witnessing the total collapse of the French Army is so satisfying. They've just been so thoroughly outmatched since the start.

I do feel the AI could benefit from some improvements, like not constantly moving units to the MagiNotYet line and losing them immediately.

IronX mod replaces the tile_highlight_sprites and tile_highlight_sprites_zoom files. Remove these files from the mod and you'll have the stock tile highlights again. Unfortunately this will also remove the cool HQ range and attach features included in the Blue Max Mod. You can have the best of both worlds if you know how to use Paint.net It's an easy cut and paste of the stock Dark Icon highlight into the Blue max tile_highlight_sprites files.

Yeah the naval combat in wargames like these is always lacklustre because the majority of the mechanics are so clearly based on the land warfare aspect and nobody can ever be bothered to essentially create a complete second set of mechanics for naval or aerial warfare. Oh and Dubrovnik is Ragusa

I also can sometimes see the predicted research advancement when I hover my mouse on the research screen, and sometimes it doesn't show up. It seems it's related to the fog of war option but I could be wrong.

That's a great quote (and one I didn't know about). We did slow down a bit in this turn, but the encirclements will hopefully provide for a very aggressive turn in the near future.

@@jeffreygriswold9599 Then he has to withdraw a lot of troops from the Balkan or Eastern fronts...a mixed bag to say the least.

@@jevinliu4658 I think we will meet Italy's entrance with troops from Serbia, and by shifting troops to the East from France. If we start running over units and there is no solid entrenchment, then there is no need for double-thick layers of units in the West (which is nearly what I have). And by continuing to cut off French units (encircle), we should make it even easier to push units East.

i am playing the ww2 game and i only control the germans , i let the ai control japan and italy , it makes the game more interesting and less of a headache to remember what i did last time for each country ,
