PHEW this problem was distressing when I came across it on a practice SAT. Now I'll know how to do it in the exam on saturday! Thanks!

Much simpler manual way: SubtRact c^2/√x^2-c^2 on both sides. Factor the numerator which cancels out the denominator. Square both sides, subtract c^2 and take the sqrt to find x in terms of c

Different? Yes. Simpler? Debatable.

Can you explain how factoring the numerator [I got x^2 - c^2 = (x+c)(x-c)] would cancel out the denominator of sqr(x^2-c^2)? problem time stamp: 1:35)

Transpose c^2/√x^2-c^2 to the left side take LCM and solve it and then rationalize after that do square on bothe side then transpose c^2 to right side and take the square root and then u will get two values one with positive and another with negative and hence only negative is given in the option so negative one will be correct

move the RHS's algebraic expression to LHS take 1/root(x^2-c^2) common and then subtract the power of denominator with that of the numerator and then the answer is in like 2 lines wasted my time smh
@-i2641 Жыл бұрын
i dont get it what do u mean subtract power of denominator
@manwithtie6708 Жыл бұрын
@@-i2641 oh its simple, you know that root 5 means 5^(1/2) right, do the same with the algebric expression (x^2-c^2) / [(x^2-c^2)^1/2]
