Played Stratego as a kid 50 odd years ago and still do today. The luck factor next to nill. There are no chance elements, like dice rolls and cards that dominate other games. As simple as the game is to learn, it is also a game that captures the fog of war concept. It is a fake out game (put all your bombs on one side of the board and your flag on the opposite side.) Keep a weather eye out for pieces that don't move! They could be bombs and the flag, but this can also be a fake out! Memory is your best ally in Stratego.

I'm from Poland and my kids got it from our USA friends when they visited us. Game is just awesome ! It is our favourite game now . Time for game is not to long and playing gives a ngood emotions - you train memory and plain moves foreward moves of opponent. Atmosphere is a way better than when playing in Monopolly- it always ends with family chaos....

I have this version of Stratego. What’s interesting is that the red Spy piece has an error on it. One of the blocks in the “castle wall” top of the piece wasn’t punched out correctly. So it’s really easy when you always pick blue and the opponents spy is revealed from the start.

What Edition do you have? I have rechecked my 1977 Milton Bradley Edition and my 2007 Milton Bradley Vintage Edition and both show you can only move or attack, but not both. I'm not saying your wrong, but there may have been a rules change I am not aware of and would like to know.

@@GamersCloset I dont have it with me right now. I just bought it a week ago from walmart for 5 dollars. under special piece section it says the scout can move and attack on same turn. every computer version i have played also lets the scout move and attack. it would be useless if it could not..
@willh16555 жыл бұрын
@@GamersCloset here is a copy paste from my google lookup Special Scout Privilege: A Scout can move any number of open squares forward, backward, or sideways. But remember, this movement will let your opponent know the value of that piece. You may wish to move your Scouts one space at a time to confuse your opponent. Scouts are the only pieces allowed to move and attack on the same turn. See Rules For Attack, below.
@GamersCloset5 жыл бұрын
@Dark Will 1977 Milton Bradley Rules for movement (Directly from the box) 8. ...The Scout is valuable for probing the opponent's positions. The Scout MAY NOT MOVE & STRIKE in the same turn. Taken from the Stratego Wikipedia: The Scout may move any number of spaces in a straight line (such as the rook in chess). In the older versions of Stratego the Scout could not move and strike in the same turn; in newer versions this was allowed. So i'm not sure when this rule was changed, but thank you for bringing this to my attention as I was unaware of it. Cheers!

They changed this game and totally ruined it. I bought an older version off eBay. They reversed the rules (number 1 is the scout now) I could not play this new version. Such a terrible idea to remix this classic
@miwarrior0607093 жыл бұрын
We play the game that the higher number gets taken off the board when two numbers are at war. Because the lower numbers are higher ranked in military. I think this is in the instructions. A 4 takes out an 8 etc. with the other exception
@GamersCloset3 жыл бұрын
The US version from Milton Bradley of the game has lower numbers beat higher numbers. The European version has higher numbers beat lower numbers. After Milton Bradley was bought by Hasbro, the licence for Stratego has moved. Currently being produced by Playmonster Games which has released it with the Eurpoean number system. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

You said the game doesn’t change from edition to edition, only the theme but they absolutely changed the rules. The marshal is number 9 and the scout is number 1 now. I did buy a newer version years ago and that was how it came. I couldn’t play it because the original rules were embedded into my mind. That was such a terrible idea, I don’t know why they did that. I love this game and now play it with my 7 year old.
