President Zelenskyy has named several strategic goals for 2024. Those include:
1. Depriving Russia of air superiority and disrupting its offensive operations.
2. Targeting Crimea, in the best case isolating it from Russia, cutting off one of Moscow's main supply lines and bases of operation.
3. Increasing domestic arms production and weapons deliveries from abroad.
The bottom line is: no negotiations as long as Russia doesn't cease and desist, with the military priority being defending skies, cities, and territory while building up a force strong enough to return Ukraine to its original borders.
But how are those goals to be achieved? And what about the long-term? 2025 and beyond? While researching, we came across a discussion paper published by the Estonian Ministry of Defence, titled: Setting Transatlantic Defence up for Success: A Military Strategy for Ukraine’s Victory and Russia’s Defeat which we want to introduce in this episode.

I agree about training, things like the UK program for training Ukrainian soldiers was developed when the situation was an emergency. Now that its relatively stabilised the training programs should be reassesed and extended in time for training them how they would their own troops. The new methods need to be taken in though, soviet doctrines have proven to be a massive failure.

I couldn’t agree more. We really need to train them how they’d train their own troops so the information can get across even more. Also crucial that Ukraine gets more power including more NATO standard fight jets, otherwise a lot of training like that from the UK and partner countries it still not going to be as effective.

It would be better not to talk about a "victory" for Russia or Ukraine. It is not about a football match but about the lives of human beings, whatever their nationality. Why prevent Ukraine from existing? Hasn’t it become a reality since 1991 and even befor? Ukraine needs 620,000 km2 to survive economically (wheat plains in the south and mines in Dombas). Russia has 18.2 million km2, with gigantic mineral resources. Why would it need more?

Russia is preventing Ukraine from existing because they are trying to join nato which is also trying to prevent Russia from existing. Russia is not doing this because they need more land but because they trying to protect themselves from nato and a nato invasion in the future. Also, I think invading Ukraine now can serve as a punishment for trying to join nato Just look at what the USA is doing around the world

Russia certainly doesn't need more territory. They even admit it. They are only fighting for their egos. They feel unappreciated, but because of their inability to cooperate with others, they see the only solution in feeding their national ego through violence. If you follow the Russian media and vloggers, this is quite obvious.
@remrafbaloo6455
@remrafbaloo6455 4 ай бұрын
@@jsme-fit You are absolutely right. But Russia is not completely isolated: it has the support of China, Iran and North Korea. They are dictatorial regimes and their power is strong. This aspect should never be neglected. Russia is an imperialist regime and imperialism, like that of Napoleon and Hitler (among others) never ends well. In the meantime, the damage they inflict and suffer is considerable and they will gain nothing from this war, on the contrary! Meanwhile, the planet is heating up and this problem will impose itself, whatever the egos of the protagonists.

My guess of what probably happened in Avdivka was this. Russian had called out prisoners and low value troops to keep attacking Avidivka. These are the meat waves. In this period of time, Russia used the time to train elite volunteer units. These units, if you follow Patrick Lancaster they are pretty well trained and equipment. They were trained to storm positions in the correct way and has season trainers dedicated to training. By the time these units are released to the front line, Ukranian troops are already exhausted. With superior equipment and morale, Ukrainian units were unable to match them. Ukraine needs to understand Russia doesn't do things for no reason. When the going is too good, you know something else is coming up. Ukraine need to organised and plan for the bad scenarios. Need to be not so complacent, know when to admit defeat and retreat properly.

Very thorough. What is missing is a European government level channel for innovators to securely offer technological solutions. The US have DARPA, Europe needs to fix that lack of connection fast. Definitely there can be difficulties ramping up such a program, but as Ukraine is proving, they need all the new ideas they can get their hands on recognizing that no one has a franchise on good ideas. Governments must broaden the ideas net at this time of need. This goes for Civilian solutions to. I have long argued from Australia there needs to be a CARPA, a Civil Advanced Research Projects Agency. This role is traditionally managed through Universities with good effect over extended time periods, but with the compressed pressure of Climate Change, this needs an intensified focus.

I disagree with the analysis (lacking of any strategical depth) and most of the comments. Regardless of what the West believes, Russia saw NATO expansion as an existential threat. The question is how does the West intend to moderate Russia’s concerns. Russia has been very cautious not to seek confrontation with the West, because escalating the conflict will bring everyone one step closer (potentially the last) to a nuclear strike.
