Today we take a look at the Strathmore 200 Series Smooth Bristol Sequential Boards. We'll see how good they are for inking, and if they are worth buying.

You are correct! This is a good budget blue-lined board. And yes, Blue Line Pro is basically poster board you can buy at Wallgreens or CVS with blue lines printed on it. It's for little kids to fool around on.

Ive heard that the bluelines printed on them can often be crooked... I was reading the cover of my pad and noticed that strathmore is owned by dixon ticonderoga??? And those infamously perfect pencils of theirs have been long discontinued - ive heard depending on where theyre manufactured though you can happen upon a batch thats good but not like the old days. Ive seen this for myself firsthand 😢 Ive also heard that the strathmore 500 plate quality has gone to the pits as well though ive never used it (disappointing due to how high of a standard it apparently used to be held at) so it seems strathmore is kinda cutting corners all around! Oh, i also agree with the copics comment - ive used ohuhu alcohol markers on this board and it was prettyyyy bleedy

What kind of ink are you using with your crow quill pen?
@RyanKirbyInks2 жыл бұрын
I use ChartPak Ultradraw ink that is condensed (thickened thru evaporation).

How does it compare to 300 smooth? Is it the same but with printed non-photo blue lines?
@RyanKirbyInks2 жыл бұрын
It's not identical. but if you were to blindfold me, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. They are extremely similar.

@@RyanKirbyInks Thanks that's what I imagined, I get the impression that it holds up better to pen hatching than the 300 smooth which tears up a lot. I've already watched all your videos, will you be making more? They were really great. I've had the same issues with nibs, specially with old Gillott nibs where they weren't cut evenly at the center, there's a world of issues with inking art tools, specially these days.

Just found your channel. Great stuff! Thanks! I’m starting my own comic and saw your video on Eon paper, being one of the best to use. Is Eon a lot better or just a little bit better then this 200 series paper? If in your experience, it is much better, I don’t mind paying more for the price difference. Thank you again.

It's a very different paper, in my opinion, compared to normal Bristol. I actually use Strathmore a LOT, and it's one of my preferred papers. Currently, I prefer Strathmore for Plate finish and Eon for Semi-smooth and vellum finish. If I'm doing anything with Copic Markers I prefer Eon.

Can you use ink washes on this paper?
@RyanKirbyInks4 жыл бұрын
You can use light washes, or washes in smaller areas. The paper is only 100# stock so it would be prone to warping.

I was wondering what non photo blue pencil are you using
@RyanKirbyInks4 жыл бұрын
I use Prismacolor Turquoise 2mm leads in Non-Photo, and Pilot Neox 0.7mm in Soft Blue. However, the pencils from this video are from Jim Lee.

Didn't finish inking it in this video. I think I finished it up in a livestream.
