started taking the fiddle in early 2015 and am now exploring how one can play the same song in various different styles. subscribed because I figured this channel might give me some ideas towards achieving that.

I play the pipes, and I can tell you without blinking that "Strathspey" rhythm is always described to us pipers thusly: "STRONG, weak, Medium, weak"... it makes more sense when you see the dance that goes along with it.

Thankyou, I'm trying to understand some written instructions for my whistle, and I think they wrote it backwards. Your example makes it fit the music.

Not me finally realizing why my violin instructor (who primarily played Scottish fiddle on his own) taught us to play scales like this 🤯

I'm from Scotland and I pronounce it STRATHspee with the A sounding like AH. I don't have the accent but my music teacher pronounces it like that. (I'm revising for national five)

Hi TottoriiGraphics. That's "The Glass Case of Emotions", an original composition by Hanneke Cassel. You can here a performance of the song here if you are interested: www.fiddlevideo.com/glass-case-1/.

Good bless her, but she means "idioms", not "tunes" … a tune is a specific composition; strathspey, reel, jig, hornpipe, march, set-dance, slip jig/slide, etc are all types of rhythms... nothing to do with "tunes" whatsoever.

Well God bless the musicologist amongst us. lol Hornpipes, jigs, so on, are constantly referred to as tunes in general conversation among Trad players. Yes they are rhythmic types, but calling them tunes is just part of that context. We are after all speaking of Trad music, not a mathematical construct. ;)
