Stratocaster Build Ep 14 : Got Some Clear Coat Problems

Everyone on luthier discussions says wipe on poly sucks. Im not sure what is is even used for. Ive learned never to clear coat until I get a proper gun to spray at high pressure with fine fine texture. No rattle cans ever again. Probably sticking to boiled linseed oil on the body as well as the neck, which means the body must be stained not painted. I think BLO would go over that red trans. Beuatiful as HELL btw.

I agree with you 💯! I think for my next builds to go with high build oil like the crimson’s one. No more rattle can until I get a proper spray gun. Thanks for sharing!

J'ai eu de bons résultats avec le Aqua coats. Plusieurs application fine, après plusieurs couches de sanding sealer, avant plusieurs couches de poly. Le finit de la guitare est super smooth et shinny après le sablage et polissage.

C'est ce que j'avais fait au début mais le poly à levé et craqué... j'ai peut-être pas assez attendu avant de polire le tout....

@@sebsguitarworkshop j’ai attendu environ un mois et demi proche de deux avant de sabler. J’ai mis au moins 40 couches de poly. C’est vraiment long à curer.

I had the same problems with aqua coat. Tried it a couple of times and then just tossed it in the garbage. Hard white bits in the filler got lodged in the deep pores. Terrible stuff. Your guitar is looking great!

@@sebsguitarworkshop I've had the best results with results with 2K polyester sealer. It's a spray on sand back back application with two or three coats needed. Not in spray cans, very hard on spray equipment and the smell is very bad and stays in the shop for ever. I have tried the solarez on a small test of piece of fabric top and I think it will work fine for that. Timber mate works good for the standard type of grain fill work.

@@sebsguitarworkshop go to Texas toast guitars and watch their fabric top videos. They explain the sealer I’m talking about. Much quicker than me trying to write it all out.
