just watched this again while looking up info on slope soaring wings and have to complement you on the shot made at 1:00. Really awesome that you had the footage and the exact registration of the shot to compare snow vs no snow. Kudos.

The servo arm pin idea is great, thats probably what I will end up doing.

Its just 2 holes in a card board box that hold the rod steady.

mtb and sloping, what a great combo. I love to do both myself but never at the same time - you do live in a slice of paradise I think. Good to see you bitten by the sloping bug - it really gets you in and because of the potentially very long flight times compared to powered flight. I found it really improves my flying skills because of this. Big thumbs up for the included MTB footage!!

VERY impressive solution, bud! A solution for keeping your wing tips on would be to do it exactly as you have shown, only add a couple of small pieces of carbon rod into the wing and extending out only far enough for the tips to slip on. You need to reinforce the tips where you put the holes so that the rod doesn't just rip through the foam. This way, the rod takes all the forces and the magnets just hold everything in place. Again, I'm very impressed with what you've done here.

Am so pleased there are people like me out there- as I had to sell the car due to low funds I now have a motorcycle and trying to carry a model is difficult enough so - I had used a rifle bag but now I saw my guitar bag - perfect . Zips all the way around and gets the transmitter and battery's and even tools too . I can get my slope soarers with V tails and T tails in no problems so long as you can dismantle the tail .

that is the best idea and plane i have seen from you yet!! great job!!

Great idea for the breakaway design, less to actually break in a crash. For the battery, you could try a sleeping bag strap from a sporting goods store or a removable zip tie from home depot

While magnets working to holding two pieces of the wing together, fins should have some pins or rods attached: magnets are hard to pull apart, but easy to slide sideways. Also, leverage of the fin's tips may act as an amplifier of detaching force.

Really cool. There aren't enough backpack-portable RC planes, IMO, but I think this is really cool. Have you seen the Dream Flight planes (Alula and Weasel)? They are packable in a similar way, where the wings come off, and are held on by magnets, but additionally they have some grub screws that cinch down on the carbon spars. They fit in a small box that can go in a backpack. Nice single-track, BTW. I'm jealous.

Looks great! Perhaps an alignment pin on the fins to help the magnets from becoming misaligned?
@Cardboardboks11 жыл бұрын
You could use a single vertical stabilizer and have it sandwiched between the 2 wing sections using the carbon spars to keep it in place. Kinda like the alula
@ykcinasak11 жыл бұрын
Hi nice video! I use a similar concept magnets + winglets only difference is that I add some nylon cable to each winglet to to secure them. For carrying plane I prefer to use backpack with strap for skateboard.

Daniel, nice job on the purpose-build. As always, I enjoyed your FPV mountain bike ride... I'm thinking you made it your personal challenge to never let your feet touch the ground all the way down, even when waiting for the redlight at Rt. 224, yes?
@lucywucyyy3 жыл бұрын
thats really cool, im surprised no company sells planes that magnet together like that, also i think id just glue the endplates on since they dont seem to add much bulk to the plane

The BIG battery at the front is a good idea and without a motor it should last for ages. How long does it last? I am building a glider out of "thong material" and I need a BIG battery for ballast. lol

try hinging the fins with tape and use the magnets to hold them in place.. they might wobble in flight but wont fall of.. or try a servo arm with a pin to lock it.

do u need lot of throws for the controls?yesterday was my first time ever attempt to slope soaring in a slope with a lot of trees at both sides so i think i only have about 5-7meters of flying space and it seems like the controls is not sensitive enough and i can only fly for about 5-10 seconds in a single throw.and also does it need to be a lil bit nose heavy?or perfectly balanced?and btw im using the mini zephyr with kf 4 aorhoil in it and also the plane is a little heavy.
@rctestflight11 жыл бұрын
If you take the dimensions of my mini zephyr and give it a little less sweep it will be very similar to this.
