The best version of this work. He kinda makes this really swing in parts. Crisp, rhythmic, and oh so lovely....My imprint version. Of course I'm prejudiced since this is my hometown orchestra I attended when Reiner conducted.

He leads by the pulse. It's always going somewhere. Like you, I'm a CSO/Reiner hometowner. I heard him do this sitting in the Gallery on Thursday night, and on Friday afternoon from downstairs, a ticket shoved in my hand while waiting for a lesson, by an old highschool acquaintance who'd had enough after Music for Strings Percussion and Celeste. Probably his mother gave it to him.

Visited Chicago only rarely, but the first time (Dec. 1962) my wife and I got a ticket and heard the Chicago with Reiner: Roman Carnival, the Beethoven Violin Concerto, etc.It was about as close to flawless as it gets.I find this recording to be likewise. Put together as if it were a pocket watch constructed. by a master jeweler. No part has been left unexamined.

Orchestra Hall's acoustics are not as bad as Muti says they are.
