It’s true that The Lads often would use relative tuning which I found surprising, but they also often messed with tape playback speed, so that may also account for the discrepancy: the string section may also have used A442 or something like that, as classical folk are wont to do, esp in Europe. Nice arrangement of this great song. Thanks heaps!

Thanks so much for this Ivor you are a brilliant teacher, very calming voice too which helps loads. I've learnt this now which is great, the only downside is my band mates have learnt in different Key so to sound higher, they are starting from C (let me take you down bit) not A, I got a capo to see if that would work and I think it does but was wondering what you thought? Sorry to bother you with this, only I have a gig in a few weeks and I ain't played in over 20yrs (gulp!) Throwing myself in the deep end a tad. No worries if you don't reply any time soon I just thought would ask just incase 🙂 thanks for your very helpful videos! ☮️

As for starting from C .... using a capo is one way but it might be worth moving all the chords up 3 notes and playing it with no capo. For example 'A' becomes 'C', 'Em' becomes 'Gm'. 'F#7' becomes 'A7' etc etc. You can then play it without a capo using a lot of open chords. Just a thought... Ivor
