Strawberry Girls is a progressive mathematical guitar project begun by former Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Zac Garren. The trio sticks to a strong DIY ethic, recording and producing their own records at drummer Ben Rosett’s home studio, Spirit Vision. Their style leans on a dynamic, precise instrumental groove that’s fun and technical while retaining a vibrant melody. Strawberry Girls’ visceral energy on stage is communicated through tightly-rehearsed tunes. I see: cracks in cymbals. Then I see: the drummer. Then I understand. You can hear this guy just breathing thru the first interview questions lol. But gotta say: all of them are just incredibly good. This must've been hard work and dedication to play this well. It's so pure and a joy to listen to. Wow, that was something special. Saw these guys live with The Contortionist and bought their albums. I was put off by a few songs on the albums that stretched into the kind of alternative genre but grew to love those as well...except for the ones like Transparent Sea and Visual Therapy. I could do without those singers but I do love the female vocalist tracks like Agua Verde, Do Peace and even Shadow of the Moon. Still, tracks like Negro Spiritual get me fucking going.
