Strawberry Pretzel & Cream Cheese Dessert

So easy and so refreshing! This is the perfect summer dessert. You'll get a lot of compliments on this delicious tasting strawberry congealed salad. The recipe is below. Enjoy!!!
Strawberry Pretzel Dessert
⦁ TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. Bake: 10 min. + chilling YIELD:12-16 servings
⦁ Ingredients
⦁ 2 cups crushed pretzels (about 8 ounces)
⦁ 1/3 stick of butter, melted
⦁ 3 tablespoons sugar
⦁ FILLING:
1 Large container of cool whip thawed
⦁ 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
⦁ 1 cup sugar
⦁ TOPPING:
⦁ 2 packages (3 ounces each) strawberry gelatin
⦁ 2 cups boiling water
⦁ 2 packages (16 ounces each) frozen sweetened sliced strawberries, thawed
⦁ Additional whipped topping, optional
⦁ Directions
⦁ 1. In a bowl, combine the pretzels, butter and sugar. Press into an ungreased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.
⦁ 2. For filling, in a medium sized bowl, beat whipped topping, cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Spread over completely cooled pretzel crust. Refrigerate until chilled.
⦁ 3. For topping, dissolve gelatin in boiling water in a large bowl. Stir in strawberries with syrup; chill until partially set. Carefully spoon over filling. Chill for 4-6 hours or until firm. Cut into squares; serve with whipped topping if desired. Yield: 12-16 servings.

This is also great done with fresh blueberries cooked with a little water, sugar, and lemon juice...thickened with corn starch to replace the jello. Wonderful. I just made it for Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow...it's requested every time we get together. I also still love the strawberry...so good. Thank you!

I have been making this for years - my entire family loves it! I like to double the amount of cream cheese in the 2nd layer to really get the pretzels covered. It almost reminds me of eating a slice of cheesecake that way. You can even try this recipe w/ frozen rasberries and rasberry gelatin. Have a great holiday weekend. Thanks for the great recipes.

Linda, two recipes I recently saw both called for two 8 ounce packages of cream cheese. Any reason you only use one package? Also, your tip to let jello mixture thicken is really a good one. I like that you chill the jello and strawberries before putting the mixture onto the cream cheese layer. I saw a video yesterday of a youtuber doing that which made me cringe. You said there was no sugar in the recipe but yet you said you put sugar in the cream cheese mixture. The Cool whip also has sugar.

Hi my little Okie! This is so good you're going to love it! I shop HSN & QVC so I don't remember which one I bought these from. There are 5 sizes when you get them. I love them for all the bowls I don't have covers for. If I remember correctly, they're called "bowl covers" just do a search on both those shopping networks and they should come up. This salad we love just as it is but we also love to substitute an 11 oz can of drained mandarin oranges and orange gelatin instead of the strawberry. The combo of the orange and the cream cheese and whipped topping makes this taste like a creamsicle. I love the salty/sweet taste of the pretzels and butter and the gelatin.

I use Splenda but you can use what you like. I bought these strawberries frozen and already sliced but you can use fresh and wash & slice them yourself. TFW and commenting!! Linda
