Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Tutorial, Miniature Food Polymer Clay Tutorial

This video polymer clay tutorial is good for making several ice cream charms at once. Which is a good thing when you are making party favors. These would be perfect keepsakes for and ice cream social. Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Charms, always sold well in my Etsy shop, I hope you get some great use out of them.
Here is how I make my strawberry shortcake ice cream. I have been making them this way 4 years.
Sorry about the video quality. The lighting is terrible. I am not sure why the camera wasn't focusing well today either. I will be adding more bakery sweets soon.

Hi Heather, this is really cute! You have such great ideas. I also make ice cream charms but I use and eye pin mainly because I don't like the look of the metal end of the head pin sticking out of my creation. I bend the straight end of the eye pin into a hook shape and insert it into the soft clay and after baking it stays where I put it. Also instead of making the sticks I use a flat toothpick and cut it down with wire cutters. I use the round toothpicks for the sticks on lollipops. I think it gives it more of a realistic look and feel (especially on close ups). For anyone that doesn't have little cutters to cut out the bite you can use a straw. They come in many sizes all the way from the coffee stirring type to the big shake straws. You can also find tools and cutters in the cake decorating isle that are used for fondant but can also be use for your clay making. Hope this helps. Take care, Dee

I discovered how to condition clay faster....Roll the clay on the oven door while it is turned on. Do it while wearing oven mitts or something so you don't burn your hands. Roll it for a couple seconds and it warms up so it's easier to condition.

I used to spend a good deal of time puzzling out how to make them look real as possible. Over time it got more intuitive. I usually thought about each piece a couple of days before actually making the pieces. That way I could come up with a few ideas for each aspect/ color/ texture before ever starting

For how long do u bake the clay for the stick? When I do things like that or anything thin they break I have tried to bake it for a long time or little time but it always break. I bake it on electrical oven does that matters?

you can use liquid polymer clay to harden it, just spread some before you bake it for the last time ;)

I have baked in both gas, and electric. The Premo (this is what my sticks are made of) clay has some good elasticity, but the sculpey is more brittle and prone to break. I am not sure how Fimo or KAto Clay cook. I have heard great things about Fimo. Heather
