Istanbul is actually full of cats. The locals take very good care of them, sometimes going as far as to build cat houses for them from plywood. So sweet 🥹

They are community cats. They are fed by the neighborhood. Shopkeepers in the area(especially butchers and delis) will put food outside for them. In return there are little to no mice and rats. It’s a win win for the people and the cats.

I don't think somebody cares for them. Most of them are strays, they live from trash, without any medical care. You can't See from the first sight if they are healthy, but when I'm there I've seen to many of them really suffering and several dead.

I just went to Istanbul in November and LOVED seeing the cats everywhere. They were all very healthy and not a bit "feral". Was so nice to be able to pet the cats and not feel like a "rescue" situation was needed. 3

cats are not only in istanbul, but in all cities in Turkey… “antalya, izmir, muğla, bursa, ankara, çanakkale, balıkesir…” are regions where cats are concentrated. in antalya, there are 57 cats and 4 dogs that we take care of in the garden with our neighbors only in our building.

yes, some irresponsible families leave the cats they have taken into their homes to look after excitedly, because they are pregnant or for other reasons. The entire public reacted to this, after many abandoned pets and aggressive dangerous dogs, pet owners now need to have chips inserted. This means that if the cats or dogs left on the streets again by irresponsible people are delivered to the shelter by the municipality, a fine of around 30,000 TL must be paid. as well as a prison sentence for killing or injuring animals. but unfortunately we also hear some bad news because the whole of Turkey stood up because of a person who killed an animal. Even though they are guilty, the judiciary is not working properly. :/ For this we need to raise awareness...

I live in France and used to have Turkish coworker. Idk what it was about him but stray cats around our workplace would just flock around him, and he'd joke saying cats have a special sense they only use to spot Turks, and that he'd brought good cat karma from his homeland lol

@@Brxle In all my years with cats, each one was special. Each one is different like people. What goes in, comes out. Kindness in, kindness out. And so on. I lost 2 cats to cars. Since then, they stayed in. I had a neighbor who kicked my cats jaw. He, the cat, was wired up for 7 weeks. He came out just as new. The neighbor, let's say I took care of him. And leave it at that. Cats can get hurt by other cats outside, plus all other living beings. I had 3 or 4 cats at a time. Inside only. Each one waived equally. Enjoy.

I also had a cat when I was young, he left me when he was nine years old because of an eye infection, he was a male cat, he would leave the house every night and come back to sleep and eat during the day, he has a lot of girlfriends in the community, he is Casanova definitely

Strays are cats that are socialized with people and are normally fed and pet by people but live on the streets so this is pretty normal for strays since they learned to depend on people but feral cats are not socialized and never will like people cuz theres only a short time for them to learn people can help so they would run away or hiss people tend to generalize the term to just strays being cats with no owners but imo its a nice fact to know

​@@4svjetlait actually does say something that the other cats stopped what they were doing to casually watch the camera person, but the one on the roof kept cleaning their claws. That's a huge power move against the human, funnily enough! That one is definitely on top!

i couldn't find a solid source because each site i visited said something different, but a couple sources say [older] female cats are at the top of the chierarchy and there's a 99% chance the one on the roof is a female (coat color) so i wouldn't rule it out

Yes Turkish people generally love the cats, but they love their cars even more. Therefore I wouldn't think that the car owner hosted the stray cats on his car delibarey, if he sees that he will probably go crazy😂
