That day, I encountered a dog on the street. It was a stray near my company, one that I had fed a few times before. At that moment, the dog’s eyes were filled with urgency, and it quietly whined, as if signaling me to follow it. I hesitated for a moment, but its pleading gaze made it hard to refuse.
I followed it for a long time, and eventually, we arrived at a narrow alley. The dog stopped in front of a pile of debris, gently nudging aside some cardboard boxes and old clothes with its nose to reveal two tiny lives huddled together. They were two puppies, not long born, with their eyes still closed, their fur sparse, but clean and neat, not a speck of dirt on them.
