Stray Ending Explained - Will There Be Stray 2?

As many of you probably were, I was left with a few questions after finishing Stray. In this video we will address said questions and ponder what may come next in the world of Stray. Enjoy!

@@hieioni3354 I have nothing against dogs but, with regard to the game, cats are solitary, inquisitive and good at climbing while dogs are pack animals and confined to the ground. They're good at running and retrieving and they can jump over obstacles but they are not naturally curious. A dog game would be something different and not a sequel to Stray. The developers own cats and study cats and I just don't think they could put as much love into a dog game.

@@johnm2012 Fair enough. But sometimes you have to think outside of the box. Dogs have strays too, and yes, the gameplay will be different. And that would just show how creative a dev is. Making games is not about fitting oneself into a mold, but to be flexible and adapt. It's about entertaining, but it should also be about sending a message. The first game already sent a message about living in harmony and sacrificing when needs arise. The sequel needs to send a more meta message: Be creative with your own games.

Another YT channel took the time to map the entire route and found that at the end, the cat was 200 feet from where his journey started. From the top of those steps he faces in the direction of the colony and heads towards it. It's hard to describe here but if you manage to locate that vid, the route line overlay shows the start-to-finish. Trust me, the cat was REALLY close to home.

I think the thing that gets me the most about the ending that I haven't seen anyone talk about is the long blink stray gives the camera/the city.... like it's telling us it loves us?? it almost made me cry when i was playing through it for the first time LOL

I'd imagine the humans survived the Things that happened to them and forgot to open up Walled City 99,Due to the control room never opening unless a human is in the room,which is Physically impossible because the doors are deadlocked until the Bit where B-12 Gets Into the System Because of the sparks At the End.

The ending of stray is what you make out of it. Many so desperately want the stray to reunite with his friends, they go to great lenghts to find an explanation for this to happen, so they will find that explanation. For me, the game and the ending shows the developers captured the essence of meeting stray cats. They will walk into your life, share time with you, being nourished and cherished and one day, after several days, weeks or even months spending time togheter, they will not return to you, leaving you wondering what ever happened to them. The ending captured this moment perfectly. The story left room for a potential sequel, exploring the drones and/or the world more. For me, the story of the stray has been told with a perfect ending. The stray said goodbye to us with its slow blink, leaving to seek an adventure with someone else. Therefore, the stray does not have to return for me in a potential sequel.

I like to think all the main robots the cat met who were trying to reach the surface eventually get out of the city. And they all went to find the cat and his friends, adopting them and giving them all weird names. There’s a lot of emphasis on the robots continually striving to be human. And at least for me, being able to share companionship with an animal is the ultimate one. The robots know they’ll outlive the cats, just like people do, but that doesn’t erase the beautiful memories and love and compassion shared with a fellow living being.

I dont believe there will be another game, but it really would be fun to be able to just roam around the slums, midtown, and outside of the wall. The sewers also, would combine horror. Since the kurks die to light, they would probably infest down there.

I'm in the opposite. I believe there are great chances for a sequel, going by how much there is to tell and reveal. The screen flickering at the very last scene, which might be B12 giving a sign of life, the cat going in a rescue for their friends, the robot's lives after the bunker being opened, the future of zurks etc. And also judging by how successfull this game was, it's very likely that they will want to continue with it. There's plenty of room for a sequel, from my analysis.

I feel like there will definitely be a sequel, as they left enough wiggle room for another game, by leaving out an absolute ending by not showing the main character meeting their friends, and showing the screen flicker at the end. They would be fools to not make a sequel due to how popular it became

The whole concept of the walled cities feels like fallout vaults cranked up to 11. Which quite honestly makes me want to see more. In my opinion it doesn't even need to be based around a stray cat again just have it in the same universe. also more awsome door animaions would be a plus

There was actually a video I watched where this guy detailed the layout of the city and concluded that when Stray leaves the bunker, they're only about a 20 second hike over from where they started. They definitely found their family. On a side note, this game hit me hard in a way that only certain games ever do. This is more than a game about being a cat.. so much more, but being a cat just makes it 10x better. I loved this experience, hopefully we get more.

Plot twist: Humans are actually alive. The robots' firmware merely got corrupted from not having human interaction for so long that they just "forgot". Stray finds its cat friends, who in turn work together to find humans, who reunite with their formerly locked up robot companions who were trapped in the walled city. Together they devise a way to completely destroy the Zurks, and the evil force behind them (the creature with the weird eyes). The story ends with humans, the cats, and robots all being free yet friends and have happy lives together.

Also: sooner or later, someone will enter the Control Room and find B12's drone body. This robot who entered that room will see that it's damaged and will try to fix it. The damaged parts will be replaced by new ones, and that will lead to new B12 game mechanics. On Stray, B12 has basically three functions: flashlight, ray-gun, and translation. On a Stray 2 sequel, B12 would have many more functions.

@@viniciusbertucci B12 will be connected to a robot body that acts as a docking station for it instead of the cat harness. This body will be able to walk around like the other robots, but be equipped with special abilities. B12 can disconnect any time and fly off as normal.

This is the best story driven game I've played in a while. I don't often get emotional in games but I would be lying if I didn't shed a tear for B12 at the end. My only complaint was that we didn't actually get to see the cat reunite with their family. It's definitely implied, but given the ending of B12 and the cats friendship it would've felt nicer to actually see the reunion as a sort of trade off for B12s potential death

There's room for a sequel but would it live up to the expectations? They seldom do. Most of the charm of Stray comes from the refreshingly different approach but it could rapidly become stale if simply repeated. The cat is most definitely the star of the show so perhaps a sequel could feature the cat's point of view. Back in the day I found Plants vs Zombies refreshingly different but was badly disappointed with the over ambitious PvZ2. Don't forget that Stray took seven years from the initial idea, when it wasn't even possible to animate a feline character in a convincingly realistic way. Ok, the project stalled and regained momentum along the way but I wonder if a sequel would end up being rushed, despite being blessed with access to more resources. I'm in two minds. I'd like to see a successful sequel but sometimes it's just better to leave people wanting more than to make a promise and fail to deliver. In the meantime, I'm still discovering little treats that I was previously unaware of, such as the cassette radios in the apartments that the cat can switch on and off, and the jukebox in the Dufer Bar that plays the same music that Morusque plays on his guitar and changes records when the cat presses its buttons. You can also get a second attempt to dunk the basketball if you miss it first time, by finding a ball on the roof and pushing it over the edge.

Something to remember is that the elevator was still broken on the lower levels and the inhabitants still have no way up. Also, as for the midtown people, we never see the elevator there.

Actually, there is no Stray 2 needed. At the end the cat is only 30 seconds walking away from their home, and at the end the cat directly walks in the correct direction.

I think, the best way for a sequel would be more like a spin-off, a game set in the same lore but at a different time, from the perspective of an entirely different character, be it before or after with subtle hints towards what we have done in the first game. This way, it is much less at risk of tarnishing the story we know, but still gives us more world-building and lore that we wonder so much about.

I imagine that this game could have two endings. After going outside, the cat looks to the right and sees its family, and then to the left to see the robots leaving the city. And then the player can choose which way it goes: back to its old family, or its new one?

This is how I think stray 2 will go Trailer: B-12 Circit gets fixed by somebody and gets transferred to another body. Stray will go back because the city has been closed again Game- Stray must find a way to keep the opening open for all robot and by that means is breaking all the pads and electronic stuff. Stray and his family get different types of assistance/B-12’s. Soon enough they will extend the hole city’s outside of the bunker. Ending- Stray will reunite with all the robots including b12,Momo,Seasume…. They will all be shown around the hole world by cats and humans and soon dogs. They will continue on to try fix themselves by creating a human body to transfer themselves into humans. Imagine if stray see this message lol.

When the cat leaves the city, a small screen to the left starts blinking just the way screens blinked at the very beginning when B-12 was guiding the cat. It gives me the hope that B-12 is back in the network and can be transferred to another body in the sequel.

There is so much room for a sequel. The sequel could totally be about the robots finding the cat again and asking for its help again to free all of the cities, not just city 99. Completed this game with 100% completion. Finding all the memories were difficult especially in the slums and in the midtown. Even I got all the badges. The new vibrant suit at the end was cool. The ending made me so much emotional. Stray 2 needs to happen soon.

There are a couple of things that are not explained. As far as I know, it is not explained how and who opens the gate for stray to enter at the begging of the game (either there is a sentient mutation of the zurks controlling stuff or the neco corporation). There are some signs of zurks turning sentient so it doesn't seem a far stretch. Also, we know nothing about who control the neco corporation. For those that say that the game story is complete as it is, Outer wilds was the same; a perfect game with superb story from begging to ending (with no apparent space for extra stuff), then they go and add a DLC that just makes the game better. Imagine a new area of the city being opened up, explaining parallel stuff happening in the world that makes it more wholesome.

I had an indoor/outdoor cat dissapear for 3 months and then reappear after thinking she was gone for good, she stayed for a few weeks and then poofed again. This time she never came back. Weird thing was her personality became VERY loving and cuddly when she came back almost like she was saying goodbye...

@@jerredchouseman T_T that is the exact reason why I leash trained and microchipped my last kitty, Enzy. He hated cat carriers on the road but was fine on a leash. He loved our pit stops so he could smell the new grass and such. I have a new kitty now named Destine, a former feral that was rehabilitated, I'm also finishing that process since I used to do it regularly. He was shy as everything at first, but within just a couple days he's warming up quickly once we eliminated his hidin spots xD. Get ALL pets microchipped even if they are indoor only. If you can't afford it, Air Tag type cat collars and harnesses are pretty inexpensive by comparison. I have both as extra security Juuuust in case. I hope you find yer kitty and can get a tracker on him. Sounds like he's an escape artist xD

I feel like there will be a Stray 2 as the city is not entirely safe yet. The eye creatures in the sewers are not affected by UV light so therefore they are likely still alive despite the city being open. Perhaps if there is a Stray 2, B12 will call the cat back for help from the network to defeat the creature before it can escape the sewers and destroy the city and its inhabitants.

If there is a Stray 2 they should make it a different cat with a different coat color, the first cat already has his/her story & it would be nice to have some new blood in the series to help increase the scope. A tuxedo cat would be pretty cool to have as a protagonist, but that's just me.

@@ample10 You know, that reminds me of a conversation I had with my friend, you know how at the beginning of the game you were with your cat family & they were all different colors & patterns? What if each cat was a different save file? For example, a tuxedo is slot one, a brown tabby can be slot two & slot three to four can be a spotted or solid grey cat EX. The color of your cat will have no effect on the game, it would just be aesthetic.

Those screens at the end could just be the lockdown reactivating and everything resetting though. Given the cat seem to know exactly what to do, this could well be a cycle that just keeps repeating and has repeated for years, hence why we don't get to see a reunion at the end.

We got a glimpse of B12's digital human-memory being stuck and "ALIVE" in the network as a "Ghost"! It opens a way for a possible sequel! But I hope that they don't make a sequel! The game is purrrrrrrrfect with an already purrrrrrrrfect ending! It left us with a bittersweet and cute little memories, and I think we should be happy with that!

I just finished the game and it was a hella scary adventure. But it was all worth the pain, tho it gives you the crippling anxiety that something will happen any moment. In my opinion there are lots of room to make a second game, the screen flickering at the end was what me believe. Also Stray didnt look completely satisfied or done with it yet. But it's just me. If they make a second game, i really do hope there wont be that much scary stuff like the first game, second game should be for funs and chils. Reuniting, exploring etc.

We know that butterflies survived the cull, but this cat wants to know what happened to the rattos, mousies and birbs. My GF adopted a formerly stray Grey Tabby from a shelter, and athough it turned out to be great cat, she still has to keep him inside to keep him from killing every birb in sight. Old habits die hard. Did the Zurks eat all the rodents? The 'bots have no need of food, so there wouldn't be any garbage pickings or handouts, so kitty would have to hunt SOMETHING, probably bugs, maybe frogs and fish. Hunting and fighting (other unfriendly cats over mates/territory) wouldn't be as cute as knocking stuff over, but would be a great expansion of the gameplay.

my theory is that the robots will go out and explore the world, and the cat will eventually meet again with clementine, momo, doc and so on, who will take good care of him. hence the cat will no longer be a stray and the sequel will be called "pet"

I am so hoping for a 2nd game... there has to be more... like if it has that high of a rating and success and a big fan base... there should be another game "or games maybe"

As much as I loved Stray, it really doesn’t need a sequel. Story wise there isn’t much left to know as from Stray’s perspective he doesn’t really care about what happened to humanity. Sure he develops relationships with the robots and B12 during his adventure but Stray will just be happy you be back with his family and knowing that the other robots are now free. If you want a similar experience I recommend The Last Guardian for PS4. Not the exact same game of course but it evokes similar themes, also takes advantage of minimalism in its design and imagery, and hits you in the feels at specific moments too with its dynamic duo pairing.
