I love that "Side Effect" sounds like it would give you a headache, but Chan slipped in repetative tones and repeated noises that actually help calm the mind so you can focus. It was the first time psychedelic trance was used in a k-pop song. Believe it or not, when I have a migraine, I pop my meds and turn on "Side Effects". It helps until the meds kick in.

We definitely had more of a headache from the thinking than the sound itself 😂 I could absolutely see how the repetition would be calming. I’ll have to try that as a frequent migraine-getter (definitely not a real word but it’s okay)… thank you for telling us that 🥰

Side Effects is actually a direct sequel to Miroh both in terms of story line and lyrics. For the story line connection you'll have to watch their trailers to understand. But for the lyrics in Miroh they spoke about being confident when faced with challenges. In Side Effects they talk about what happens when you start to question your decisions and feel anxious about your choices. Side Effects era was the first time we realised that the skzverse is a multiverse and there are different versions of skz. Like in the MV there are skz who took the easy route and skz who took the difficult route aka the road less traveled

We can't wait to watch their trailers! We've heard that a lot of storyline connects the trailers to each era. Miroh and Side Effects connecting makes sense.. we're on a journey of learning ourselves and it's usually a very bumpy road ❤!

I love how Side Effects represents the cycle of anxiety (mental health problems in general) & not only in the lyrics. It builds up & gets louder, faster and a lot of optical stimuli that feels kinda crushing come into play ... until you can't take it anymore & it errupts in screaming & letting out the frustration. Than it's a moment of silence & you think "It's over", only to start again right after.

Here's a bit of insight into the whole album's theme (Yellow Wood, Road Not Taken, the lyrics of it all): The album title Yellow Wood is a reference to a famous poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. There's a line about the road diverging at the yellow wood, and the narrator chooses the 'road less traveled by', knowing that it would change his future irreversibly. In the "Side Effects" MV, we see Stray Kids at a bus stop taking their luggage to travel into the wilderness in a rugged vehicle. In fact, from the Yellow Wood album teasers we see that there are two parallel universes (hence the two moons) -- one in which SKZ took the 'road less traveled' aka the path into the unexplored wild, and one in which SKZ took the conventional route on the comfortable bus. We follow the journey of the version of SKZ that took the more difficult path that few others have tried before, symbolizing the non-mainstream type of music and artistry they've been producing since predebut. "Side Effects" can be interpreted as the literal side effects of their choice to take the hard route where they feel discouraged and constantly doubt themselves even while putting up a facade full of bravado. You can see this same theme in the lyrics of "Road Not Taken" and "TMT", which are the only new tracks specific to this album. For instance, Changbin raps a line about whether the path he's chosen is that of 'crisis or opportunity', and all of "TMT"'s lyrics are related to this inner struggle of trying to forge one's own path while looking at the stars, because that's the only source of hope and salvation for them who are still striving to find their place. While Cle 1: Miroh was like them diving headfirst into the 'city jungle', Cle 2: Yellow Wood is like them abandoning the traditional infrastructure of the 'city jungle' and choosing another path, the 'road not taken'. A lot of people were shocked by the concept and sound of "Side Effects" and they received a lot of hate at the time, yet they chose to do what no one had done before despite knowing the potential backlash in order to shape their own destiny. This is a perfect example of the idea behind the poem.
@NewChapterReactions

Side Effects is the biggest split in their universe. After Miroh they have free ticket to join the same path as other idols and become like them, but also understood how wrong the society is. Now... One version of Stray Kids accept this and get on the bus (they actually leave in the bus at the beginning of MV, this is shows in trailer). Going the set way in comfort. The other version of Stray Kids decides to take Road Not Taken (this is btw first song of the album, no video). They want to create their own path, their own music, be themselves. But they soon realise it's not so easy, road is closed ahead, there is no path. They were overconfident and now are suffering Side Effects of their confidence which leads to fights. They think about the other group on the bus, wondering if they chose correctly. Two moons represent the split into 2 versions. Bonus info: Hyunjin on the ground and Chan helping him up is how Levanter choreo starts, but you can't see this in MV, only in dance practice. Bonus bonus: it's indeed Seungmin starting the song. And there are 2 versions of screams, ones are made by Chan, ones by I.N There is also film making and Hyunjin was STRUGGLING with fighting Seungmin. He couldn't stop laughing saying it's impossible for him to fight Seungmin (Hyunjin totally adores Seungmin and even after 5 years he is the only member he never had any arguments with)

Ah, 19. The nostalgia. 19 is one of my favourite Stray Kids songs of all time. It has an incredibly special place in my heart as someone who was turning 19 the year it dropped and had very similar anxieties as the ones expressed in that song. It still makes me a little emo sometimes lol. Fun fact: I did not like Side Effects when I first heard it. However, I really liked the choreo (it's still one of my favourite choreos from them of all time), so I kept coming back to it, and it eventually grew on me. I unironically love Chris's screams in it. He's weirdly great at expressing anguish with his screams in their music. TMT is my favourite song off Clé: Yellow Wood. It's just so vibey (despite all of the angst in the lyrics)

Hyunjin and IN is the “Villain”, or more important part throughout all the albums. Hyunjin is also always shown through different parts throughout the mvs all the way until Oddinary, and IN adds to the plot from Levanter to Oddinary! Felix also became the “good guy” main plot person starting from Thunderous, in the trailer! The plot progresses, and you should definitely watch the prequel highlight reel, which explains all main plot that connects all the albums until right before god’s menu! The entire plot is all connected through the albums, but I won’t say the full thing bc u’ll get spoiled. Stray kids likes to make stay think… the entire plot lien is super cool!

"Side Effects" massages my brain. It's the only way I can describe it. I noticed others commenting that they use it when they have migraines or to help them focus to cope with ADHD, and I agree wholeheartedly. I've always found "bass heavy" tracks helpful in that way, despite my family wondering how I'm not making my problem worse... it doesn't work as well if you're just playing music with speakers (though a car can make it happen if you're able to turn it up enough or have a nice system), but use a headset or earbuds and oh my. My brain also enjoys that there are two versions of the scream/shout -- to me, it sounds like one stems from frustration/anger (first one we hear) and the other stems from anguish/pain (first instance is right after the struggle). I'm not a super-Stay or anything, I just enjoy some of their music... but "Side Effects" is in my top 3 songs by them, especially if we base it solely on which ones I listen to most often. Side note... I'm finally starting to feel like I'm getting closer to newer content, but only because I haven't been watching full videos (a lot of times I'm watching just your initial reactions and not the replay, for instance). But now I have more to watch because I subbed to Patreon at least for now, lol, and this weekend will have basically no streaming because yay for a short family vacation.

I love Side Effects so much. It's just brilliantly made. SKZ so often use their music and beats and sound elements to not just underlie vocals but also actively support and progress the message of the song. They did it in Maniac, with deceptively "mainstream" (until you listen more closely) verses representing their facade of normalcy, dropping into hard, dark choruses representing the truth of their inner maniacs. They did it in Thunderous, with a majority of traditional instruments and sonic elements forming a hard-hitting and very modern song literally titled after traditional folkloric noise masters and clapping back at hate for SKZ being noisy and untraditional. And they do it in dozen of other songs. Side Effects is one of my favorite examples of them doing this. It's hated for multiple reasons, but one big one is that a lot of people find the sound itself to be disturbing, unsettling, uncomfortable, anxiety-inducing -- which is exactly what it's meant to do, but somehow the haters don't grasp that part (or more accurately, they don't care, because haters). It both reflects and evokes anxiety and disturbance, even without any of the vocal elements. Part of what I appreciate about this is that, simultaneously, it's also a comfort song to a lot of us. Whether because we recognize and share that anxious, disturbed feeling and thus feel represented, or because our brains like the repetitive elements skillfully woven throughout to provide an underlying soothing feeling, or whatever. I have literally fallen asleep to Side Effects on loop because it clicks with my mind when it's in a certain state and calms my head. (Loop it together with Massive Attack's "Teardrop" and it's like a knockout pill.)

22:00 exactly, Yelllow wood has for intro "Road not taken" you will understand that after wandering in society's maze (miroh in korean) trying to defy the norms, they decided to find a new way to be themselves in the storyline but also in the album with more experimental songs just like Side Effects they're shaping the image of Stray Kids by being brave and they try new things never done before in kpop that's why they're in a conflict with themselves, being scared but daring and it put them in such deep reflection that they end up having a headache and constant pressure. The bus version of them is the version that did not try to take the road not taken, and the wandering-ones took the road not taken.

It's scary and exciting at the same time. It's such a weird feeling cause I don't feel like I've grown up at all but here we are lol I just wanted to add:- the part in the song where they sing about wanting to go back to a time where they used to whine about things just hits hard, because it's wanting to go back to simpler times when little thing like not getting candy for example was a big deal. And followed by fearing not seeing the person you are now-I get it is a part of growing up and maturing but it is also vey scary.

Just thought to give you more context about Side Effects. There are multiple theories regarding this song, but the album Clé 2: Yellow Wood’s intro track, Road Not Taken, is inspired by a Robert Frost’s poem about following your own path and we see how the story leads up to in Side Effects. At the beginning, Stray Kids are at a bus stop and it’s seen metaphorically as a fork in the road that you already noticed. Hence the 2 moons in the sky. They can either take the bus led by the system “to the New World” or take the path less travelled. Thus creating 2 universes that follow the same timeline just two different paths. You can see that clearly, when the screen splits and they are both on the bus and outside it. Stray Kids also mentioned that the song talks about the side effects of growing up as you’ve already said. Which can be linked to mental health and you heard in the chorus the back voice listing the side effects: "Common side effects may include nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, vision problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, weight loss." Sorry for the long rant, but this is one of my favorite SKZ songs 😁. (Credits to other Stays' theories that I included here) Thank you so much for your reaction! Edit: The performance video for Side Effects is soooo good. Looking forward to when you get to it 😊

Two things: First: I don't think anyone pointed it out to you but what the "announcer" is reading are common side effects to multiple depression and other triggering inducing disorder medicines: *(Common side effects include nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, vision problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, weight loss)* Secondly: notice how the beat is trying to simulate a heart with anxiety and stress - the beat is progressively going higher and faster. You need to watch the album trailers and stuff for the connecting storyline. Outside of the story, Chris based Side Effects on a poem by Robert Frost, “The Road Not Taken’. 19. Side Effects was one of the songs that made me fall in love with Stray Kids and made me dive deeper into their world. Love love love that song so much! It was definitely not what I expected to hear when I first started listening to Kpop (only been a kpop listener since 2021), and its a masterpiece. The choreo is so impressive to me as well, it really pulls you into the song and is really fitting for the uneasiness of the track. Ah, I love watching your reactions!

"We're going to watch the making films and it'll all be explained." Me: Thinks back of Lee Know with his "ICE CREAM", Chan's "Today I'm Chris, I'm from Australia" *narutoruns away*, Hyunjin and Changbin "flying", Felix doing helicopter with his extensions, Seungmin playing baseball, I.N in a refrigerator and Han just singing(random snippets of different making films). "Yeah... Sure..." 🤣 In all seriousness; firstly I love 19. It's Jisung's first "solosong" used as a SKZ-song and he's so real for those lyrics. I love that song and the whole vibe. Side-Effects is a queen. Currently I'm getting more and more into Levanter, Double Knot is a has a special meaning, but I think that whole song, mv and choreo beats everything. (only other choreo that beats side effects is domino, personally). I love the usage of back-up dancers and the whole conceptual imagery that's created with this dance. If you're to watch a dance practice, please look also look at the one from Studio Choom, I love that those are 4K, really performance based and the lighting is *chef's kiss*. TMT, I've never seen the MV or really took a deep dive at the lyrics and I've never took a look the intro for Yellow Wood, so I'm not thát deep into these songs, but I love to watch it with you! (I'm following another reactor who's having a deep dive into SKZ discography including every intro for all the albums, but they're still at Clé 1 haha.) If you want to include a small video that will help the timeline throughout all the mvs (since you already took out a lot of details in Side-Effects, I mean hats off, truly). I'd recommend watching the next video after all the mvs from Clé: Levanter (it's less than 5 minutes); kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6GpfYJpnJt2ick I believe it's to be seen as an explanation video with a voice-over from Chan. It's not that long and contains mostly footage from trailers, MVs and those "in between stages of concerts"-footage (I think). Next up is Double Knot, Levanter and Astronaut, I'm thinking? Get ready for another whiplash, I believe, because that's basically kind off Limbo, Connected and Doodle (not in that particular order just so you'll still be surprised which one is which haha)? Curious what you'll think! 😁

Let us believe in it okay 😭?? It's keeping us going 😂. Honestly though...I want to see all of that chaos even more 🤣🤣! Oh of course it's a Jisung song. He's always coming at us with the vibes 😭 We've heard a lot of hype surrounding Levanter so we're very curious to get to it. We haven't been let down so far so I'm sure it's going to be amazing as well. Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah we're going to go back and go through all of the trailers eventually. Maybe we should have added them in but.. we kind of went into it blind 🤣 so we're just.. muddling along the best we can 🤣. We plan on watching them eventually. Neither of us are used to album trailers being full storyline trailers! Ah, the highlight reel! We've had this one recommended to us a couple of times too. Maybe we should check it out... At this point I expect nothing less than to experience emotional whiplash with Stray Kids 😭

Oh do take your time with all the trailers and the intro's (in my personal opinion they're the best. If you watch them all at once you'll see them grow so much in front the camera as individuals that are a part of Stray Kids - I hope I explained that okay, it might sound weird but idunno -). Yeaaah, I'm not ready for the whiplash that will be The Sound (the title of their Japanese Album in case you missed it), but at the same time I'M SO HYPED!

Hello! Great reaction as always! 19 is a really moody song and I really like it! I love their lower register and Chan's rap! Side efect is one of their song that goes to the EPIC category! The choreo is insane, their voices, the pation, the visuals, Chan's blond hair that I'm addicted to! You should definately watch the performance video for this and the Kingdom version as well, they are really amazing! Last TMT is my favorite Stray KIds song! I really, really adore that song! Every time I listen to it, it gives me a bittersweet feeling, because the time I first listen to it, I was in a wired fase and I was just getting to know Stray Kids and they made me feel soo much better, so I can still remember that feeling I had when I first listen to it! Also at that time I was still Chan biased (His blond hair is ma favorite thing in the world still) BUT after that video I sudently became Lee Know biased! I felt imediatly in love just by watching his part in this song, and his blond hair ( I have a weakness for blond hair actually). So yeah I am so exited that you got to react to my favorite song! i'm a couple of months late to this reaction, but i had to mention something specific since i'm not sure i saw anyone else say it- TMT does stand for too much thinking/too many thoughts, but there's also the korean title "별생각“ which as a phrase literally translates to something similar, "all sorts of thoughts" or something along those lines but 별=star and 생각=thoughts so you could actually see the title as "star-thoughts" or even "thoughts about stars" and i think that's actually quite an important bit of wordplay considering the amount of star imagery in the lyrics as well as the fact that they are talking about following stars, being stars, etc it's something i don't often see people talking about when it comes to this song so i wanted to share!! fun fact i guess 🫶

Some of the dance-centric performance videos are pretty much must-sees even when there's also an actual MV. The Side Effects performance vid is one of these (as are ones for songs like Voices and even Boxer). It's an entire art production unto itself. Also, low-key-emo high-key-dramatic SKZ have some paranormal stages. There are two zombie vids -- one dance practice, one music show comeback stage -- that are worth seeing. But it's the vampire stages that are truly masterpieces. And that includes _both_ vampire versions of Side Effects. SKZ remixes their songs for each new major stage/performance, and that holds true here. So both vampire versions of Side Effects, while obviously sharing similarities, are also different enough (both sonically and visually) that both should be watched at some point. Seungmin was so intent on doing well as the master vampire who spreads his contagion by infecting Chan to add him to the vampire family that he literally studied how vampires supposedly bite. The ribbons are the contagion -- the Side Effects of the vampire's bite -- running throughout and connecting SKZ and now being used to draw Chan in as well. -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/aofQqq2Hj5eLb5Y -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXOUfpx-f7B8otE Levanter is the end of the Clé album trilogy era. As such, it contains a lot of references to previous songs. A couple of the most obvious and poignant are choreo moves drawn directly from Side Effects and then reframed in the very different context of Levanter. The neck-snap move is the one most people remember, but if you can, watch the Side Effects performance video (NOT the dance practice, as that's a cutesy thing made for fandom), then the Side Effects MV, and then the Levanter dance practice (this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6a6dWt5atiibbc -- the other one [Lovestay ver] is a cutesy fandom gift). You'll see that the final element of the Side Effects MV -- Chan pulling Hyunjin up and into the fold -- is the starting element of Levanter's choreo, and it sets the tone for the entire song. Levanter is the queen for a reason. Anyway, since I'm so behind, you've probably already watched Levanter by now. But the info herein is still something I felt like I should pass along, just because there are so, so many layers to SKZ's content that all add so much, and it's really easy to miss a lot of it -- like when there's an MV _and_ a performance _and_ two iconic stages that all differ -- if others don't fill in the gaps.
@NewChapterReactions
@NewChapterReactions Жыл бұрын
I am BEYOND intrigued at this. We had no idea these themed stages existed. The two you linked us are the vampire versions? I actually.. would love to react to this now haha. I didn't know they did paranormal stages that weren't for just Halloween!! We haven't gotten to Levanter yet because we took a break from the music reactions this week... but I think that it should be in our next MV reaction series. You're definitely the main person filling in the gaps right now. We've learned a lot from your comments. Hopefully I can retain the majority of it because we usually get a LOT of facts and tidbits thrown at us that it's hard to remember everything. Your posts are always so well put together! I'm a little overwhelmed by the amount of layered connections SKZ seems to use!!. It's so interesting though...

@@NewChapterReactions Wow, thank you for the compliment! I know there's _so_ much info to take in, from me and from all the other STAYs with various levels of overshare. I hope you don't feel pressured to memorize it all. Yes, those links are to the two Side Effects vampire stages. The first was for one of the year-end 2019 shows (pre-covid, so live audience). The second was for their online "Unlock : GO LIVE IN LIFE" online concert in November 2020 (mid-covid and purely online, so no in-person audience). Thundereous also has both a vampire dance practice (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJ7Ukolrd9-mp6M ) and stage (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX29n2eYi7t3fM0 ). Unlike the Side Effects concept, though, the Thunderous vampire era leans more toward charming and cute than dramatic and creepy. And then there's the Maniac zombie dance practice (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ6pYoybmthrr7M ). Both the Maniac zombies and the Thunderous vampires were biting and gnawing on each other during practice, and it's hilarious. Even the SKZ Talker footage of the zombie practice is worth watching (RIP Han's a$$ and chest).

One more, and then I (hope I) will shut up. You wondered if the paper on the ground in Side Effects was a map. Funny enough, SKZ gave us a map leading into Levanter. On it are locations indicating each album and a few details from each location. For instance, the path begins at a shattered bubble/dome under an inverted cityscape, with scattered items like a couch and a shopping cart and a bus slamming through to get out of the dome -- Hellevator + I Am NOT: District 9 imagery. It continues through a tunnel (I Am WHO: My Pace) to a building with the couch and hideout on the roof (I Am YOU), then moves on to the City Jungle, etc. You'll see the bus in multiple spots. The elevator in multiple spots. You'll see that the road doesn't actually leave City Jungle -- it ends at an elevator...and then begins again at another elevator (Yellow Wood: Side Effects), with a gap in between. The keys are scattered around the portion of the map wherein the albums within the Clé (French for "key") era trilogy lie. And there are multiple other details throughout, concluding with Levanter (the end of the Clé trilogy) leading into the new era (which started with God's Menu, though we didn't know that at the time). Anyway, they literally gave us a map named "Map for Broken Compass." Recall that the lightstick (which was introduced and released alongside Levanter) is Nachimbong, "the compass without direction." The compass concept first established itself solidly in Levanter. If you search "SKZ Map for Broken Compass," it's out there. Or here's a direct link to a jpg version: www.allkpop.com/upload/2019/12/content/050500/1575540026-20191205-straykids2.jpg from one of the media outlets' sites. It's a cool thing to look at and pick out the details.

I gotta stop watching before going to work, running late 🙃. Now that you have listened to a few older songs, you probably figured out why it took a while for people, especially South Korean listeners to get their sounds. Definitely not typical Kpop, the solos on SKZ Player album shows they are more than capable of making sounds that more appealing and more Kpop, but I am glad that they decided to go their own way. Btw, one of the recurring details that I'm not sure we've told you about yet is Captain Hook. A small element of SKZ's thematic arc during the earlier stages was Peter Pan/Neverland -- again related to time driving forward, pausing time, childhood vs adulthood, etc. Specific allusions to Peter Pan/Neverland are almost nonexistent and it's not a big aspect, but the broader time/age conflicts and themes related to that story are present. The primary direct references are Captain Hook (albeit as the SKZ multiverse version, very different from Neverland's) and a couple lyrics in "Airplane" (which, side note, is also the only time in the discography that they directly address the listener with a gender-specific word -- "girl" -- and in context it's more likely as a Wendy reference to continue the metaphor, as opposed to really going the old "singing to mah girl" route.) Anyway, the heebie-jeebie bus driver here, if you look at his hand, you'll see a hook tattoo. If you're good with faces, remember his. You will see him again (and have seen him before), another subtle recurring element running throughout the storyline. He will not be a bus driver, so don't lock onto uniforms or anything, just his tattoo and (if it's in your skill set) his face. And if you _are_ good with faces, memorize his and then go back and rewatch Miroh. A few other elements that are recurrent from earlier content, will recur in future content, or both (you noticed several of these, which is really impressive for a first run-through!): The lion image from Miroh on the front of the bus, the tiger on the buggy/ATV, the shopping cart, the bus itself (or _a_ bus, anyway), the keys, the field, the lighting changing colors, two moons, elevator, the buggy/ATV, Hyunjin sensing something wrong and being in some way separate or isolated from the others, camera/taking pictures, glitch effects and film effects, the cityscape, lightning. You did an excellent job in picking up on a lot of the storyline elements. While a lot of it is common sense and commonly accepted, technically most of what we know about the storyline is collectively formed theory (hence deviations). But we do know a few things directly from SKZ. Some of that is in the highlight reel. Some is in the trailers and other filmed content. And some of it is stuff they've mentioned outside of those, through things like comments in Channie's Room or even on Bubble. At our current (2023) stage of the storyline, things have evolved and changed a lot. But back in this pre-God's Menu era, we know that Hyunjin senses _something_ is wrong but doesn't know what (he sometimes gets referred to as a tester or senser of realities, or similar); you will see him set apart, distracted, upset, lost, in obvious emotional pain (his teary eyes as he's beating on the glass in TOP and causing the life-threatening crack is one in particular that always gets me), etc in multiple videos. And we know that I.N is (or rather becomes, as of Astronaut) the "oracle" _[edited: originally I said "mage" here because I was typing while half-conscious];_ he knows what's happening, to some degree, but has no power to affect or change it. Despite what some will tell you, he isn't evil and isn't the cause of any of it (he can't be controlling, masterminding, or changing things when he has no power). With I.N, you will see him set apart, sad, lost, spacing out/looking off into the distance as if to a different world, clearly mourning something while trying to hide it from the others, even literally screaming "I want to go home!" at one point. He's not at that stage yet -- that will begin in Astronaut, when Multiverse A's I.N and Multiverse B's I.N get switched. From then on forward, SKZ A unknowingly has I.N B in their midst, and vice versa. That's why he doesn't show any signs in Side Effects or the upcoming Double Knot, but then comes Astronaut, and when Levanter rolls around, the change in I.N is very obvious. Levanter is also where the hints of Felix's power begin; prior to that, there's pretty much no indication, though there's the beginning of a hint with his "conflict" moments with Hyunjin. I'm mentioning I.N's and Felix's bits here, before those things really manifest, because 1) Side Effects is where things kick off, starting with Hyunjin's sensing of "offness" and his behavior spiraling into the things we see in subsequent videos, and 2) if you know before things start with I.N and Felix, you'll be more able to notice the change.

I don't think we've been told about any Captain Hook themes yet. The Peter Pan/Neverland theme actually makes a lot of sense. Especially with all of their references to time and growing up. Okay so I'm the worst at faces 😅 but I will be on the look for the hook tattoo? If this is something that is a subtle reappearance then we might have to go back and watch to see if we can catch it. There's two of us so .. maybe. Wow I didn't know this was a thing at all!!! It seems like they sprinkle bits and pieces of their storyline literally everywhere. It takes a literal community to gather all of these clues together and I think that's really fun! Thank you for giving us the heads up on this. Hopefully we're able to catch more going in aware!

@@NewChapterReactions I'm mild-to-middling faceblind, so recognizing him by his face is almost impossible for me. You won't always see his tattoo either, which complicates things. Since you're also not great with faces, my recommendation is to just keep his existence in the back of your mind. Then whenever you watch a SKZ mv, keep an eye out for the inclusion of a man his general age. _Then_ go and compare the images directly, side-by-side. To make it easier, here's the other primary appearances: He's one of the elites in Miroh. He's among the crowd and in the background in Back Door. And he's most directly shown in All In (you can see his tat there). The "it takes the whole community" aspect of tracking their storyline is one of the funnest things for me too! The moment a video drops (or trailer, or random comment in Bubble, or whatever), the collective sleuthdom kicks into gear and starts sharing info. I love the organic building of shared community and cooperation this fosters.

"side effects", my queen! One of my most favourite songs in this world! I will never stop being amazed how 3racha takes things I normally don't like and make a song I am obsessed with! you deduction is really impressive! since the main points I wanted to say are already discussed in the comment section by others, I will just mention some info for future reactions. "double knot" is a single included in the "levanter" album and it is the last MV KWJ appears in. there is a performance video for the english version of the song and it is already OT8. "astronaut" MV was filmed with KWJ, but he was later edited out. so as you understand, KWJ left in the middle of the comeback preparation, so the comeback even had to be postponed. "levanter" was filmed already without KWJ. both "double knot" and "levanter" have english versions and those are master pieces! regarding the story line, as people said there are different theories. I like the following one which can also be interpreted in the reality (it is not my theory, I read it somewhere). "miroh" was their attempt to go the common path anв become the leaders following the rules. but it didn't work, because they were too small in the kpop field. "side effects" was their attempt to go a completely new way, "road not taken", completely unconventional. but it didn't work as well. they also got tones of hate for this song due to it weird sound. "levanter" is where they finally find their path and understand that "the key was inside of them all along". next is "god's menu" where they embrace their versatility and present themselves as master chefs. and then in "back door" they invite fans to their district, to the world which they have established.

Oh, and like, theyve really come far (esp with han's lyrics about Seoul being big and now in Charmer, he's just "saucin, livin in big Seoul city".) - Side Effects really makes me mouth the screams when I hear it and then feel possessed by the beat HAHAHA But the key lyrics for me is I "swallow pills called baseless confidence. Maybe I took them so many, now I'm feeling worried than confident" - coz the ego I had with my grades until college happened and I doubted if I really knew what career path I was taking. - TMT talking abt chasing stars (like their aspirations in stardom) and fearing theyre follwing an already dead star (coz ,as their concept "time", we are simply looking at heaven's past coz light years). Yeah, wow. Why did it never click that more than alternate universes, it's Time oriented universes? Unrelated is that one scene of Woojin and Chan running past each other in TMT and how it seemed to tie in too much to chan the leader running forward and woojin turning back to go for his own aspirations coz everything was quickly revised during Astronaut and even if Levanter ties in to "new era, new universe", it also meant leaving the universe without WJ.

19 is a song by Han, it's about him turning 20 and being scared about it. By the way Han wrote Run in the same year as 19 (and Sunshine). "Clé" means "key" in French. Side Effects is probably the song that polarised opinions the most and is constantly bashed by other fandoms but... we love the song so so much. And the choreo is crazy! TMT means either "too much thinking" or "too many thoughts". To be honest, even if I'm a Stay since 2019, it's still hard for me to get everything in their storyline. Lol. Thank you for reacting to skz, I love your videos!

Hiiii ❤️ ! I hope you're both good ! I didn't answer but don't worry about answering late ! 19 So this is the first "official" Han song, School life was released before but he's not the only one credited. I already mentionned this song a long time ago ! In your reaction of Mixtape with Spread my wings ! I told you that it's basically the same meaning but I don't know why for me 19 hits more. I absolutely adore that in this song we have Minho AND Chan rap ! Like they are both rappers but rarely get raps so it's so good ! Oh and also Hyunjin's rap ! The way he is so agressive ! I always laugh when I hear him this way but it always ends up being my favorite part (hhmm like Blueprint for example !). I love hearing the low register of the members but Seungmin's low register ! I don't know like that's the besy thing ! I rarely read lyrics so I never read 19 lyrics, even tho I knew what the song was about. So the part where Chan mention being 13, I was shocked ! He joined JYP entertainment the 11th of April 2011, when he was 13 years old.... When you mentionned the full album reaction, I couldn't help but think of Entrance. It's the intro of Clé 1 : Miroh and this song is really peculiar. And with my french self I'll talk about the lyrics ! Side effects !!!! "Common side effects includes nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, vision problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, weightloss" You finally react to my love ! This song was like the 5th skz song I heard 1 year and a half ago and this song is one of the most important for me. Like sometimes when I get anxious I just go and listen to this song. Fun fact it's the first and only song that use the genre psychodelic trance in kpop ! In the MV, there's an elevator at the start and you know what ? I never realised it until a reactor pointed it out even tho I watched this MV many times. Again low registers ! Seungmin starting the song with his low register is a blessing ! And Chan next... So Hyunjin and Seungmin fought because Seungmin was taking pictures ... again... In many MVs, Seungmin is seen taking pictures, I don't know why but he does. Again my French self is here to speak about the horrible language that is french. So the album serie is called the Clé serie and Clé (or clef, there's two way to write it) means key in english. And the Keys are quite important in the story line. From what I understand there's multiple universes in their lore, and they travel between the universe. They travel thanks to the Hellevator and thanks to Keys, and later you'll see that they abandonned both ways (exactly in Levanter). That's so funny to see someone reacting to one of the noisiest skz song ! And the fact that we are asking Chan to make this kind of song again... TMT ! Fun fact, I actually never watched this MV but I've seen clips everywhere. The first time I listened was probably when I created my play list on Spotify or my skz playlist on youtube with all of their songs. Fun fact again, I read that and moght be wrong or it may have changed. But Hyunjin and Han's raps in TMT are actually their fastest raps ! Okay so I remind again but I'm french and I left France two times in my whole life so I don't know very much. But I'm pretty sure this MV was filmed in LA (on the bus you pointed out LA was written).

Hiiiiiiiii 🥰!! 19 I love it when we get to hear Minho rap!! And I feel like maybe (from what we've seen so far anyway) maybe Seungmin's lower register is so pleasing because we don't hear it as much? Omg Chan was so young when he joined JYP! I don't think I was doing anything interesting.. let alone knowing what I wanted to do with my life when I was 13. It's crazy to think about! Side Effects I love hearing people tell us this! The fact that the song can be so soothing on the mind is amazing. As the idea of putting a psychedelic trance in a kpop song (actually a song at all) is such an interesting concept. How do they think of this stuff? Was that an elevator?? You know I almost asked you guys what it was they were standing in front of because it just looked like scaffolding to me. Wow.. that's super interesting. The low register singing.. I love it so much haha. Okay it means Key in English! That is new information to us. We will keep this in mind! Also, yes! Chan please make a song like this again. I would love to hear more of their "noise" because I love it! TMT HAHA I'm laughing at myself because we completely missed the side of the buses saying LA. It LOOKS like LA but the color grading really threw me off in this video. They did a good job of making it look like different cities 🤣. Thank you for letting us know!

Side Effects was my favorite skz song for a while (until Silent Cry beat it out) but it's definitely still one of my top Stray Kids songs. I also think blond long, curly hair Chan is my favorite look on him. But I also think having his hair bleached like that really damaged his hair.

personally, i was so glad to turn 20 because then I wasn't a teenager anymore. i hated being a teen. even when I turned 13 I told people I was still 12 for awhile. That's how badly i wanted to avoid being a teenager. LOL

We watch the videos once to take in the actual visuals and storylines (if there is one) and the second time around to read through the lyrics. We will eventually get through all of their discography but we want to take the time to appreciate and work through the music as we go.
