Stray Kids are a very talented group. They produce their own songs, and they can all dance, rap and sing. They have a unique sound (after you get to know them you’ll be able to recognize it). Their music genre has even been given its own name, “mala taste” (because of all the different “flavors” in it). They have been together since 2017, and did their debut in 2018. Their leader, Bang Chan, picked the members of the group himself and even designed the group logo. They are very proud of the fact that they make their own music and they now have more than 100 songs to their credit. I recommend Thunderous, Venom, and Freeze next.

You'll hear kpop artists say things like "Though I'm inadequate I'll try my best for the fans", "I'll work harder", "The outcome wasn't perfect so I'm sorry". It's a cultural value to be modest and humble (of course not everyone is, but it's the ideal I guess). You'll get used to it as you see more and more content. Though it still makes me sad to hear them say they'll work harder when most of them already work their asses off.

So… K-pop idols are put through a lot - several years of training before they debut, and during that training, they can be dropped at any time. Then, when they do debut, competition is fierce as hundreds of new groups or artists debut every year. Not to mention their culture of constantly looking up to older or more experienced groups… it can wreak havoc on their confidence. I think they’re constantly looking for ways to improve and be better mostly as a survival tactic, honestly. Also, I.N is the stage name of the youngest member of the group, whose real name is Yang Jeong In.

@@ALovelyPenguin they really are! I’m not officially a Stay, BTS is really the only group I have time to deep dive into, but I really like everything I’ve seen by Stray Kids, and their personalities are fun to watch in their interactions. I think Koreans value humility a lot, to the point where they sometimes debase themselves and see faults and imperfections when they should be extending themselves and others grace instead. There are a lot of factors that play into confidence levels, but I wish they were free to express more of it if they have it without feeling like they’re going to be hated for it.
@aliciapark6241

I wouldn't say they're not confident. They're just super humble and they don't see themselves above everyone just because they have fans and they're singers. It's a cultural thing and a lot of Asian country has this mindset. They're always thankful to their fans and humble. Their country loves humble people and if a singer is so full of himself or brags about things, they don't like it. they would even lose fans. They also don't curse in their songs. I mean if you think you heard a curse word you're wrong. for example in korean 'bicchi' means 'light' so when they say light sometimes people who're not familiar with kpop misunderstand it but no they don't curse. and since they rap too people tend do misunderstand things but no even if it sounds similar they're saying something else in korean.

Thanks for your reaction! I appreciate that you were interested enough to check out the behind the scenes video as well. Looking forward to more SKZ reactions! :) you mentioned that these guys dance, sing and rap just like any other group - and you are right about that. What makes them different is their sound, they are also more rap-heavy, which is not that typical for k-pop. Plus some background facts: they are self-produced (they don't just "contribute to song writing" or "write some verses" - they write the music, they write the lyrics and they are the producers, which is super rare), the leader chose the members and the band name (super rare as well), they all sing and rap in songs (not typical for k-pop, but not super rare). They also went through a survival show before the debut. Typical survival shows are competitions between trainees to get a spot in a group. In case of Stray Kids: the leader chose the members and the aim of the survival show was not to loose the members and to prove they can make their own music and everyone is good enough to debut.

I think what you may be sensing is humility rather than lack of self confidence. IMO we don’t really do humility in the US, or know what it sounds like (not directed at you btw). This is common in Korean culture. This group is unique in several ways; the leader (Bang Chan) chose the members from a group of trainees. They also write and produce all their own music and do their own choreography. I’m an ARMY but really like SKZ music and appreciate their talent and what they’re achieving. If you’re interested, go check out Back Door, Thunderous (my favorites) and the stuff off their new album Oddinary; Maniac, Freeze, Venom and Lonely St. Thanks for reacting! PS they do the competition stuff as entertainment for the STAYs (fans) just like BTS variety shows.

Fair enough, you are definitely right about that clip where I brought it up, but over the videos I have been watching there is definitely a lack of self confidence in some of these guys that still puzzles me. @@ALovelyPenguin Some of it is humility, which is partially a cultural thing. Some of it is, yes, confidence issues. This industry can be toxic af. The trainees are constantly judged and found lacking by the companies and will have people setting themselves up as antis (anti-fans) even before those trainees debut. And the idols then are subjected to an insane amount of constant micromanaging and a culture often centered around criticizing every tiny aspect of them (idols' movements, clothes, language, food intake, being forced to have plastic surgery, etc are under the control of companies, to varying degrees depending on the company and depending on the particular group). We're talking 100 times more intense than western cultures and fans do -- and the idols aren't allowed to respond or defend themselves or show any negative reaction/emotion. The leader of this group gets told, in multiple public spaces, to k1ll himself every week. The one who had the cars rush past him has been targeted for over a year by people trying to destroy his career with proven-false accusations about him being -- I kid you not -- a bully in _middle school._ (Yes, having a spat when you were were 14 can destroy a career in Korea.) Every single one of them who has mental-health issues come up gets mocked and told they deserve it/to k1ll themselves/they're weak/whatever. Because their music is so different from kpop mainstream (and it is; you've only heard one song; they're literally considered the pioneers of a new genre, even by people who hate them), their music is "noise music." Add in that 2/8 of them are Australian -- including the leader, who's also producing the music -- they and their music aren't "Korean enough." Half of them are called ugly constantly, as well as fat (which is the same thing as ugly in Korea...and beyond). Can't sing, can't dance, can't rap. They hear this EVERY day, from thousands of a$$holes who literally define their lives by being antis. Basically, the level of constant verbal abuse they receive on a daily basis, and to which they can't respond or defend themselves, is nearly incomprehensible to people used to western artists and fans. It's an entirely different power dynamic and culture. It beats them down. And if they show actual confidence in themselves, that too will get used against them. And yes, one of the many ridiculous things about kpop is the chunk of people who define their entire personalities around being a fan of one group. This is particularly prevalent with some of the more popular groups (more fans = a higher number of toxic a$$holes in the fandom, even if the actual ratios between different groups are roughly the same), and that loud minority invest their souls into being A Fan and go waaaay beyond healthy parasocial boundaries. So people who dare to like more than one group are traitors or "cheating" on their group. (This is a minority; most people are not this batsh1t. But it's always the toxic, vicious mfs who are the loudest.) I appreciate the groups. I support SKZ. I _loathe_ the kpop industry.

Thank you love your reaction. Stray kids are unique and write, arrange, compose and produce their own music. I.N is his stage name. Debut in 2018 with 9 members lost 1 member in 2019. 2 members are from Australia. They are the best in their m/v and transitions. Their sound is not like any other k-pop group yes they have members that are talented just like any other group but I can grantee you that is the only similarity. Their sound is like no other and they are the only one that gives you movie trailers for their album releases. Felix is the one with the deep voice and is from Australia. His looks was not based off anyone. Felix has versatility of different hair styles and fits are done to match the song and the album concept. A lot of the kpop idols may struggle with low self esteem when they start out because they go through so much and compete with hundreds of other kids who all want to be an idols but only few are selected. I also think the company they are under has an affect on the idols because a lot are selected at such an early age and some of the companies are not great companies and will treat their idols crappy. That is putting it nicely. Stray Kids are under JYP Entertainment company who was the first company to let the leader Bang Chan (chains on his face brown hair) hand pick his members and name the group and also created their logo. Bang Chan is from Australia and trained under JYP for 7 years starting at the age 13 years old. After BangChan picked his members the company had the group go through a survival elimination reality show called Stray Kids where any one of them could be eliminated before debuting. It all worked out in the end but almost lost 2 of the members Felix being one since he was born in Australia he new very little Korean when one a competition and moved to Korea at age 17 yrs old. hope to see you react to more stray kids if so catch you on the next video.

K-pop fans are different from the usual fans that most Americans are used to. They are fercly loyal to the groups and members they follow. There are a lot of Fandom wars between groups...It can be toxic at times. The fans can get ruthless, so just ignore people when you are looking into other groups if you get negative comments.There are a lot of multi-group stans...that's what fans call it.. stans....like I love BTS, but stan Stray Kids as well. You're comment about so many Korean K-pop group members "seeming to lack self-confidence" was way off track.... politeness and humility are just part of Korean culture... watch any award show for music or drama artists or live concerts when they address their fans, you will find that they are each very gracious and humble, They always show love and gratitude to their fans. Because these attitudes are pretty much lost in the US culture, it takes a bit to understand. But they are nearly expressing how honored they are to perform for their fans and always try to do better.... As for the "missions", most groups have their own "fun shows" and part of that is often little "missions" or as we call them "challenges".... BTS took it to a gold star level but many groups, like Stray Kids have them. There are also some comedy-variety shows like "Men on a Mission" and "Master in the House" that have these challenges....

Can you please react to 👉the lady of heaven trailer? The movie was shown in AMC Theaters in the US and it had a very long and successful run there. The next move is for it to be shown in Fiji, which is located in the South Pacific Ocean on April 21st and in Canada on April 29th and in Ireland and Northern Ireland on the same day as Canada’s and in Mali on May 21st and finally Australia at a later date. After the theater deals are finished it will have a worldwide release via movie streaming platforms ❤️❤️
