I think their songs hit so strongly because, since they wrote them themselves and they were so young without a lot of life experience, the songs describe their feelings and emotions, not just somebody else's lyrics that they are singing. Their songs help to get to know them.

"Insomnia" was inspired by and based largely on Chan -- who, to this day, has pronounced insomnia that he frequently mentions. His trouble sleeping is part of why he started Channie's Room, which is generally streamed during the nighttime. The "Voices" Special Video is also very worth watching eventually. It's an updated 8-member version that is absolutely gorgeous and stark and lets you see the full choreo, which is stunning. Yes, they're singing to themselves in "MIA." I'm glad you got that (I die a little every time I see someone dismiss this as a cheesy, cookie-cutter romantic love song [always to "a girl" because heteronormativity, of course]). As is common with SKZ, they involved wordplay in this song -- "MIA" pronounced in English as it's written (so basically "me-ah") sounds nearly the same as "미아"...which means "lost child/children" in Korean. They're literally their younger, more innocent, happier, freer selves singing to their now older, more jaded, sadder, more guarded selves. Again, I'm so happy you understood. Now that you know about the glitches and surveillance, you'll notice these things everywhere. Side note: Along with glitches and surveillance, numbers are important to SKZ. Almost anytime there's a number (on a phone screen, a clock, a video frame, etc), it will be significant. Most often, it's some form of 0325 (debut date) or 0801 (STAY bday), but there are occasionally others. In this, if you look at the digital numbers across the screen during one of Seungmin's parts, you'll see that it starts at 03.26 -- the day after debut -- and keeps going to cover the days since that first day of their new reality. The entire I AM album trilogy has a focus on elements of growing up and growing pains, and I Am WHO is right in the middle of that arc, so there's a stroooong angst theme throughout the album. I Am NOT had more rebellion, anger, upset. I Am WHO leans more into uncertainty, inner turmoil, pain. And then I Am YOU is a bit more about "well, I'm still confused and upset, but I'm starting to accept things now, and at least we have each other." Kinda. As with all of the album trilogies, there's an overarching theme that kind of plays out in three chapters. Notice how powerful and interesting these videos are even though they're all practically free (with the street ver literally being them running around filming themselves, which is as free as it gets)? They had no budget for anything but the title tracks, but they wanted to give us multiple MVs every time. So things like MIA and Voices got low-budget yet high-quality "performance" videos, and when they couldn't even get that level of budget for things like Insomnia and Boxer and Question and N/S and several more, they just went around filming themselves in the streets and parks and rooftops of multiple countries so they could still give us something. These days, they have the budget to help, but they've _always_ made it a point to spoil us with content.

Ahh that's heartbreaking to know. We've caught a few of his room lives since we've started to reacting to them but we were unaware of how they started. We didn't know they had another version! voices is one of my favorite skz songs (along with slump, top, phobia, etc. so apparently i have a type), it's such a damn good song. not only because of the beat but also because of the lyrics, their vocals, the rap, the choreo, and all the emotion you can feel and see everytime they perform it. amazing 💕

The first Stray Kids songs feel very personal, right? They wrote them, so it's normal for them to feel unmotivated, most of Stray Kids' songs before God's Menu (2020) are like this, JYPark said that they felt a lot of self-doubt until 2019, they doubted their abilities since that starting their debut, even before their debut, they were known for making their own songs and they felt that pressure. Most believe that Stray Kids is famous for being from JYPe but it is not like that, it is true that they get that promotion but after their debut they did not do well, they sold little and were VERY, VERY criticized for their LOUD music, the worst of it was all his album "Clé 2: Yellow Wood" with its main theme "Side Effects" a song in the genre "psychedelic trance" or "psytrance" (it is a genre of electronic music characterized by hypnotic rhythmic arrangements and complex synthesizer melodies and riffs strong fast time, with forceful sounds) the hatred for that song was tremendous. _________ JYPark said it, Stray Kids was an experiment for them, it was discussed a lot by the high positions of the Company, to try and create a group that at the same time made itself, that they felt that natural link and not forced or created by the same company , that's why you will ALWAYS see the 7 members thank BangChan very much, because he chose them and it was not all because of talent, also their personalities, behavior and conduct (and it's funny because their personalities fit very well, more than friends, they seem brothers and family, I'm not saying that there aren't groups that feel like this, but they look like a HEALTHY family, it's as if they have roles, both father, mother, etc😅 they know each other so well and know how to cope with their problems, they argue about everything what they don't like and what they would like to add, everything is talked about, even their lines in their songs and the best thing is that they have fun) all in the hands of BangChan, a GREAT RESPONSIBILITY the level of stress in 2018 and 2019 was very strong , Han is the clear example, but they are super reserved and don't say anything when something like this happens, more than because of their songs, this can be seen in many videos where they are trembling or super tired, those years they released a lot of music. Only after God's Menu did they find their color, they accepted it and their self-esteem rose a lot, now to talk about Stray Kids and say Ruido's music, it depends on the context, because it can be flattering (as for their album "NOEASY") or it can be annoying. ___________ I ever reviewed how much Stray Kids brings to their music, and I was surprised because they are in ALL their discography, (not counting collaborations with other artists, just a few) you can review each of their songs on their albums ( "album name - track list ") and you'll see 3RACHA in everything and if they're not there, the other members will be there (their names dream to be in the Korean language), or in lyrics, composition and arrangement. I don't understand people who throw hate at artists just because they may not like that particular sound of music. It's so senseless 😒! We will always be open to any sound that they come to us with. I love the fact that they are so experimental with their sounds! I'm glad that they have such an amazing leader like Chan and that the members seem to love each other they way that they do. You can really see their bond ❤️. The fact that they got so much hate and still pushed through it and didn't give up is amazing. I'm glad that they were able to come though to the other side where they now seem to be receiving the love that they deserve! Also not sure if anyone else has asked but do you guys plan on doing Christmas song reactions this month, like what you did with Halloween? (Edit) Just a head's up, these are songs that personally can make me emotional (read: tears, many tears) so I thought I'd share them and you guys can be sure to keep the tissues around when reacting to them, just in case they are needed #LoveStay (You *will* cry. Not crying is not an option with this song) Haven Slump (it gets more emotional when you learn that Han wrote this one when going through a slump of his own) Scars (I recommend checking out the MV because it's gorgeous and the First take version for the lyrics since their Japanese songs don't have lyrics in the MVs) You Can Stay Alien (Han solo song) I Wish You Back (another Han solo) Streetlight (Changbin solo) I Don't Want to Admit (Bang Chan solo. Same girl, Insomniac since so I was eight, and everything that goes with it for 30 years now. The anxiety, depression, sleep paralysis and nightmares. “Manic” episodes where I can’t stop for like 3 days at a time. These guys saved me from a dangerous depression. I’m not cured of course, these things take time, it probably will never go away, but they have helped me more than they will ever know. ❤️‍🩹 I can’t wait for 19, Chronosaurus and TMT.👏🥰 TMT was my favourite song for over a year. 🥰 I also am excited for you guys to react to SKZ- Player play list after the albums. 💝❤️‍🔥✨

Absolutely loving your thoughtful in depth reactions. I personally am not a huge fan of really slow songs most of the time so I appreciate SKZ and how they use upbeat tempos and dances in even their deep and/or sad songs. These songs still put me in a good mood whatever the topic of the song. Don’t get me wrong . . I cried too the first time I looked at the lyrics. But now I listen to these songs and I have a very strong positive emotion associated with all of SKZ songs. My daughter was the one who introduced me to SKZ (they are cross generational) and I thank her every day for that. I do listen to other K-pop artist but none have affected me like SKZ has. 29:30 since you already know about glitching world and surveillance on stray kids... Maybe it's time you learn a bit about their *parallel universes* . Basically, Stray Kids keep questioning themselves about going the right way. The world is glitching, they are being watched... Are their decisions the correct ones? Are they following their path or path set by someone else? All the possible different decisions split stray kids into multiple versions of themselves, each "copy" representing different possible outcome if they chose another way. Sometimes it's done subtly, you mostly consider it as normal costume changes in videos. But if you focus on the storyline, you notice those are actual different versions of stray kids in the same video (check Hellevator again and you can clearly see there are 2 versions of skz, ones being black and white and others wearing colourful clothes. Han then gets swapped into the other group.). Then we also have songs like this, Circus, Side Effects or All In, where different stray kids actually do face each other. As you go through these music videos, I would strongly recommend you check out album trailers each time you're starting new album. It gives you the narrative to the storyline.

I just finished binging all your reactions to SKZ and I love you guys and I love the appreciation you give their songs and lyrics . I feel like their discography is a reflection of what they were going through from when they were younger kids trying to find their place in the world to a more mature confident young men , they still struggle of course . Insomia is mainly inspired by chan he wanted to write this song because he knew a lot of people struggled with sleeping like himself and it lead him to be even more of a workaholic .you always see him working even while they were waiting backstage to preform or during the tour he's always in the background working. That's why the whole fandom rejoice when he says he had a good nights sleep or slept more than a couple of hours or took a vacation 😭 he never misses a chan's room live even in the midst of crazy schedule and when he does he makes up for it sometimes I wanna force him to take a break and rest . Voices is a masterpiece and M.IA is addicting . I AM WHO as a whole is still one of my fav albums ever everything about this album is perfection . even tho they are heavily criticized as "noisy" their music is so healing to me they helped me through a very bad place in my live and they still do , aside from the ones you already heard "Another Day" "Sunshine" and "Alien" all three by Han helped me so much too I can't wait for your next reactions . sorry for the long comment

I'm very biased here because I love I AM: WHO (I think it's top 3 in terms of albums from them for me) so, fair head's up lol. Yeah, most of this album just hurts your feelings and, I think that's partially the point. It's the point in the I Am trilogy where their questioning of who they are is at its all time high. I think it's like 'hey we said what we weren't in I AM: NOT but, then that begs the question of who we are? What do we stand for? What kinds of people do we want to be? etc. I'd even go as far as to say that this album is *the* album (while an argument could be made for Mixtape and/or I AM: NOT) that exemplifies struggles and insecurities from them. It's so great but, a very rough album emotionally.

Yeah... Probably best to have tissues on hand. Just in case. Most of the songs that I find sad, they do give me a lot of comfort as well. And the songs themselves (when you don't think about the lyrics as much) are so nice to listen to that sometimes I forget that they once made me cry and I just bop along to them. I love these 3 songs a lot and always bop to them now. I will say though, that for Insomnia - I can't help but do the head bop that I.N does in the street version the first time the beat drops. I love that so much and it makes me giggle.

I am who is my second favorite skz album thanks to the bsides I can not not be happy ! So Insomnia ! Before actually talking about the song I want to talk about the street versions ! This video made me realize that it's your first street version ! In I am not there was a song with a street version (Rock) but you didn't react to it so here's some info. So out of 6 songs with street versions only 1 (Question) was filmed in Korea, the others were filmed in Japan, USA, Australia and Thailand (I'm not sure if it was Thailand the last one but I think so). It's always fun videos to watch and in the series "the 9th" you can see the behind the scene of some, or at least of Rock. Now for the song ! I found that rather ironic that Chan is singing the " I can't sleep" part since he really can't sleep. Minho with glasses is really something else ! He wore multiple times this kind of glasses and it looks so good on him ! And when he was younger he was wearing glasses so maybe he is as blind as I am ? But can we talk about Changbin singing at the start of the song ? I was surprised that you didn't mention it so I think that you maybe didn't understand that he was the one singing. I really love his voice ! And to end this part I want to mention that even if I already mentionned it on other comments But this is really True for Insomnia. I prefer so much more the ot8 version over the ot9 like Innie's high note ?????!!!??! I really hope that you get the chance to listen to it ! Voices ! Just know that this part of the comment will be really different because my relationship with this song is really peculiar. I laughed so hard when you jumped at Changbin's rap as if I wasn't scared the first time too 😂. You said that you really liked the "ah" part in the chorus and it's Minho singing it ! I never really paid attention to who was singing it but not too long ago someone mentionned it and since then I can't help but think that it's one of the reason why it's my favorite skz song. The choreography ! Not too long ago I saw some reactors saying that the choreography was not it for her. But in my opinion this choreo is exactly what the song represent. Like I prefer many other dance of skz over this one but I think that it's the perfect one for this music ! I have to say that Chan's "there's so many voices" is literally always (even if I listened to this songs hundreds of time) giving me goose bumps. Something that made me appreciate this song so much is actually the comment section of this performance viceo (because there's an ot8 performance video too). In the comment everyone is comment commenting how much this song helped them with their own voices. Okay now this part will be really different. When you talked about the lyrics in the middle of the second listen actually remind me of why it was so hard for me to accept that it was my favorite skz song. For the longest time I would say that Side effects was my favorite song, because it's such a comfort song (even right now Side effects is in 0 category it' the song that had the biggest impact on me), but in reality Voices was here. But it was so hard to accept it since it's such a hard and dark song. So I started to get a little bit anxious when watching you say that and it was quite hard to follow what you were saying at the end of this part. MIA ! Funny but not funny I can't really speak about this song. Like I always skip this song and I have no idea why. Like I know the lyrics, I love them but I skip the song. It's one of skz songs that I listen to the less. So I will only talk about the visuals 1nd what you said ! The lower register ! You're rught I love hearing them sing in lower register ! Changbin's outfit ! I have to say that this one hits different ! Like he always looks good it's Changbin but this outfit is on another level. I have to say that everytime my brain register that in this song there's part where Changbin, Minho and Han rap together I'm wow. Because I love Minho's rap! Many stays forget or don't know that he debuted as a rapper but he is so good ! You said that this album was like the saddest for you or something else and I really have to disagree, in my opinion. I really think that I am not is way harder but you didn't listen to 3 songs and one of them is the one that hits the hardest. I'm talking about 3rd eye my third favorite skz song ! And even Go life/IN life ! When in one album (and repackage) you have Slump, another day, Phobia and Any, it's really something else. Once you read Another day lyrics and listened to Slump english version, nothing can be harder in skz discography. I have to say that, like you said, I love that they have so many songs talking about mental health and it's good in one side. Like it helps you in your dark time, like it did for me in the last weeks since I just dropped out of uni. But at the same time it's sometimes hard to listen to some songs and just enjoy them without thinking of how sad they are. I'm not criticizing their songs about mental health since literally in my top 15 skz songs there's only this kind of songs. I have to say that I really love the way you are so open about yourself in your reactions. Another reactor I follow don't like showing herself cry, which is totally fine. But the way you just cry and talk about why it touched you so much make me feel a deeper connection to you two ! And lastly it has nothing to do with this video but it's a special day so yeah. I already mention them but I really hope that one day you'll get the chance to react to Xdinary Heroes ! I say that because today is their first year anniversary ! They are one year old and as a debut stan I'm so proud of them ! And i would love to see my favorite reactors, that you are, react to them one day. Voices is definitely one of my favorite skz songs. Yet another one that's on my anxiety playlist. :) There are a couple of their songs, like Voices, that have additional performance videos that they filmed/rerecorded the audio for after Woojin left that I also recommend watching at some point. Okay, so, bear with me. I have no idea what american/english literature is required of Korean students, or Australian students for that matter, but both of the hats worn in MIA (hyunjin and seungmin) are similar, much alike Holden Caulfield's red hunting hat in Catcher in the Rye; a book about wanting to stay in youth, to not grow up, to catch children before they fall into adulthood. I hope that's not too country/anglo centric of me, but that hat style is very specific. Oh boy did my English teacher self just show up.

Sorry, I'll see myself out- But all jokes aside, yes SKZ is very good in those hard-hitting songs that talk about the raw things in life. A personal favourite is Winter Falls from the Christmas EveL mini-album they released last year. (Question: will you react to it with/around Christmas or are you going to follow the timeline? 👀) Listened to it firstly and thought it was a beautiful song, then discovered it was written by Han (my bias), looked up the MV, then watched it and read the lyrics. By the second verse I was bawling my eyes out, because it was about a past relationship that you want to put behind you, because the other isn't worth thinking about anymore. I have experienced this exact thing and the song, lyrics, everything are so close to home for me. I can enjoy this song, but there are some days it hits me again and I'm, again bawling my eyes out. It's just a testament to their writing and empathy capabilities, because it's written so well. And I love it that they mostly write "love"songs nonbinairy (it's a me versus the other) and in a way that it doesn't have to be interpreted as love. I'll prepare you in advance: Silent Cry is a whiplash. The song, the lyrics, the choreo: three different genres.
